THOR 2 Getting A Last Minute Rewrite From SAVING PRIVATE RYAN Scribe
There's been yet another development in the messy production of the sequel to Kenneth Branagh's 2011 hit. Robert Rodat has been hired by Marvel Studios to rewrite the script for Alan Taylor based on Don Payne's draft. Read on for more.
After Kenneth Branagh decided not to direct THOR 2, Marvel Studios hired Monster helmer Patty Jenkins. The release date was then pushed back to November 2013 and it wasn't too long after that news hit that Jenkins suddenly decided to pull out of the project. After a not particularly long search, the studio settled on Game of Thrones director Alan Taylor to take charge of the production, although it would now appear that there's still some work to do before shooting starts later this year. Deadline reports that Saving Private Ryan scribe Robert Rodat has been hired to rewrite the script for Taylor and is reworking a draft by Don Payne. The reasons for why are unclear, and although this rewrite is taking place at what appears to be a fairly late stage, the writer was named as one of the candidates last December when Marvel's hunt for a new director began. Rodat's other work includes TV series Falling Skies and a rewrite of the critically panned 2008 film 10,000 BC.
