THE AVENGERS Bests THE DARK KNIGHT RISES As Fandango's Most Anticipated Summer Movie

The Avengers has emerged victorious in Fandango's survey of most anticipated summers movies, and while The Dark Knight Rises isn't too far behind, The Amazing Spider-Man is absent from both the male and female lists.

The Hollywood Reporter point out a survey over at Fandango which puts Marvel's The Avengers at the top of the list for most anticipated movie of the summer. As you can see from the results below, Joss Whedon's superhero ensemble has a mighty 31% of votes from men and an admirable 16% from women. This puts it ahead of both The Dark Knight Rises in both categories, although Snow White and the Huntsman came out as the most anticipated for women (The Amazing Spider-Man oddly appears in neither list). Fandango Editor-in Chief Chuck Walton had this to say. "It’s clear from the Fandango survey that there’s something for both men and women at the movies this summer. After an incredible first quarter, Hollywood is delivering even more spectacular choices for moviegoers in what’s shaping up to be one of the biggest summers in years."

Men’s Picks for Most Anticipated Summer Movie:

1. The Avengers - 31%
2. The Dark Knight Rises - 23%
3. The Bourne Legacy - 14%
4. Men in Black 3 - 8%
5. Prometheus - 7%

Women’s Picks for Most Anticipated Summer Movie:

1. Snow White and the Huntsman - 22%
2. The Avengers - 16%
3. Men in Black 3 - 13%
4. The Dark Knight Rises - 10%
5. Dark Shadows - 8%

How can Prometheus be so low!? I'm looking forward to that more than most movies, except Avengers! (and maybe Dark Knight Rises).
TheMyth - 4/17/2012, 2:38 AM
And now we will be forced to hear from the Nolanites how these numbers are meaningless...
Chaplin - 4/17/2012, 2:38 AM
well to be fair, TDKR is still three months away and the promotion has barely started. Meanwhile the Avengers is everywhere! I wish WB would try harder to promote the film instead of relying on word o mouth and fans of the first two.
connorblaze - 4/17/2012, 2:39 AM
WINNING. And the rest need only be silence.
TheMyth - 4/17/2012, 2:39 AM

I don't think I buy those lists... I mean are people REALLY that excited for a Damon-less Bourne and MIB 3? and where's Spider-man?
TheMyth - 4/17/2012, 2:40 AM
Awwww... what's wrong Roscoe? Don't like the truth? pussy...
RadicalDuck - 4/17/2012, 2:47 AM
Shame about Spidey but I'm sure it'll still do very well...he is one of the most famous superheroes after all...
buttercup - 4/17/2012, 2:49 AM
These polls do have some validity. They did a poll in December 2011, before most of the publicity for any 2012 movie had really rolled out, and "The Hunger Games" was #2 on the list for most anticipated for women. I was surprised it ranked so high, but then it exploded at the box office.

And I'm afraid that ASM probably will make decent box office, but it's looking kind of like a dud for the general public.
marvel72 - 4/17/2012, 2:56 AM
good see the avengers is number one on the men's list & number two on the women's list.

it seems to be the ladies like chris hemsworth as he does appear in the number one & two movies on their list.

prometheus should be higher & the amazing spider-man looks good from the trailer so that should be at least on the list.
DrRockso - 4/17/2012, 2:58 AM

Craziest thing is that Jeremy Renner is in the top 3 men's picks. It's gonna be a big summer for him.
soda9 - 4/17/2012, 3:39 AM
Eh, not sure about this.
1st. The Avengers
2nd. The Amazing Spider-Man
3rd. The Dark Knight Rises

Now of course, this just prediction. I feel like the tables could turn and TASM could get 1st place. Hopefully.

thunderforce - 4/17/2012, 4:04 AM
There is a third category that the Avengers could win too and is not in that survey it is KIDS lol .
breakUbatman - 4/17/2012, 4:22 AM
Of course Avengers is high up and has a positive buzz on the internet. It officially releases next week and what we've heard so far is great, add marketing to that and there you go.

I cant wait for the 26th, but I guarantee you when it's Bat breaking time I'm gonna go crazy.
InFamouslyCool - 4/17/2012, 4:28 AM
blah blah blah
Ranger14 - 4/17/2012, 4:31 AM
In all reality, this is just one survey/poll. Others have shown TDKR to be the most anticipated in 2012, others have shown the Hobbit and others have shown Hunger Games. It all depends on who you are polling and as anything, it's all a matter of opinion. It really means nothing other than getting people all worked up over it.
HarveyDent88 - 4/17/2012, 4:32 AM
Cant work out what Im looking forward to most avengers or tdkr, not suprised TASM isn't on the list as it looks total dogshit.
Comix - 4/17/2012, 4:35 AM
Yeah I really think Spidey is going to end up like x-men first class/batman begins. When both those movies were coming out they werent really anticipated but they were all really good. I dont expect Spidey to make a billion though, hell no. Alot of people still aint convinced of this reboot.
thunderforce - 4/17/2012, 4:35 AM
I hope TASM bombs and Marvel gets it back .
fanboy03191 - 4/17/2012, 4:38 AM
MARVEL FTW!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
fanboy03191 - 4/17/2012, 4:39 AM
As for Spider-Man, I agree with Comix. I think we're all going to be pleasantly surprised.
soda9 - 4/17/2012, 4:44 AM
@thunderforce
That might not be such a good idea. If marvel gets the rights back, they said they probably wont do anything w/ him for a long time :( im sure TASM will be amazing! The best film of 2012!
dmadtroll - 4/17/2012, 4:45 AM
hehe. now we will hear yet again from nolanites how it is pointless to have these f'n votes from future audiences here, that it makes no sense and that tdkr will still top the avengers. lol
sweetalchemies - 4/17/2012, 4:46 AM
TDKR second? I'll take it, especially considering its marketing is only just beginning.

Can I renounce my gender as well? Snow White and the Huntsman? I mean, yeah it looks decent, and Charlize Theron is gorgeous, but come on. Kristen Stewart? Most girls are probably going to see this mainly because they recognize her from Twilight.
Superheromovie - 4/17/2012, 4:46 AM
It's a shame people aren't anticipating Prometheus and Spidey more than they should.
TheMyth - 4/17/2012, 4:49 AM
Nolanites making excuses of course. And what was the excuse a few months ago when this was still the case, that Avengers anticipation was skunking TDKR? Just can't take the fact that Marvel has potentially (and now with all the buzz going around from screenings confirming it) made the BEST superhero film ever. The new Bat-flics are good, but they don't even scrape the barrel in terms of being a superhero film. Suck it you extremists, Avengers is blowing your shit out of the water.
GingerBird - 4/17/2012, 4:53 AM
So that movie where Agent Coulson is killed by a brainwashed Hawkeye? Interesting...
CrowPirate1 - 4/17/2012, 4:55 AM
I don't get how Men in Black.. is on both lists, and Spidy isn't on either...

I mean.. most of the movie, Tommy Lee Jones is played by another actor, so the core duo isn't even in the movie all the way.

It's like a new Lethal Weapon... and Mel makes a cameo near the end, but they upped Pesci's part to full partner?

eh.. to me, the main movies are Avengers, Batman, Spidy, Alien pre-quel, Bourne and Bond.
JDUKE25 - 4/17/2012, 4:58 AM
Yeah, that doesn't really mean a whole lot. Avengers is in 2 weeks, 1 for some. Of course people are gonna be more excited about it right now. I am. But as soon as a couple weeks go by after I've seen it, probably twice, I'm going to be more excited for TASM, then TDKR.
Maxi91291 - 4/17/2012, 5:00 AM
Really ??? Please tell me that @HonestAbe is just making fun ... in case it is true ... @HonestAbe SHAME ON YOU !!!!
Ranger14 - 4/17/2012, 5:07 AM
"I don't get how Men in Black.. is on both lists, and Spidy isn't on either..."

MIB3 is a continuation of a popular franchise and Will Smith is a major draw. TASM is a reboot and a number of people I know don't find seeing another origin/start-over for Spidey that appealing. TASM doesn't have any leads who are a major draw.
jaewest215 - 4/17/2012, 5:08 AM
Who gives a f- about this poll? Get a life. Lol. Remember they been marketing The Avengers movie like crazy. I would expect nothing less. We have heard little from the other movies. The Dark Knight Rises will be good. TASM will surprise people. People invest in this Nolan vs Marvel like they either know them or they are part of the movie. Lol. Why are we matching up ONE man against a WHOLE studio? Lol. Remember the anticipation of TDK? There was alot of marketing.
Spidey31 - 4/17/2012, 5:09 AM
1)TASM
2)TDKR
3)The Avengers

@just1superguy- ya I'm guessing you know everyone is thinking the movie is " smallville peter Parker " lol garfield is 4 times the actor of welling and saying something is corny is all opinion.
MechTech9 - 4/17/2012, 5:09 AM
Let's see...The Dark Knight Rises was a the top of the Twitter before the end of the last year. Where was Avengers? Not that Avengers won't be amazing, but you can't honestly start sprouting crap about it becoming most anticipated when it will release in 3 weeks (in the United States, at least).

Also, this poll only takes into account mainly adults. I'm pretty sure kids and teenagers don't waste there time on Fandango surveys all day. Therefore, the scoring for The Dark Knight could be much higher. Even the Avengers could be much higher. But, bare in mind, that the Avengers is #1 because of all the promotion. The Dark Knight Rises has barely done promotions, and they are in second place. That is an achievement right there.

Using the argument above, The Amazing Spider-man could very well be part of that list. Lots of kids and teens are anticipating Spider-man. I'm definitely waiting in anticipation. So, to claim that a "Nolanites" opinion is not going to be vaild, only shows the ignorance of some. I consider myself, as with many here, a fan of Marvel and DC. I only hope that this crap of who is better will just cease. They will both be amazing; and if you wish to stretch so far as to say epic (which I wouldn't deny they would be), then so be it.
Spidey31 - 4/17/2012, 5:17 AM
@ranger14 not many people have found out about it yet, a lot of the Genreal audience is still in the dark about the movie. They will find out when they see the avengers which I think the 3rd trailer will be attached to and we can't really assume people don't wanna watch another orgin/remake when it's a reboot and this will be the second spider-man film franchise which means the orgin hasn't been displayed on the sliver screen as much as some of you think. Besides spider-man isn't your average super hero if this was an iron-man reboot then maybe we could say "people aren't interested in orgin/remake" B/C honestly iron-man isn't as popular as spider-man.
TheMyth - 4/17/2012, 5:17 AM
MechTech, The Avengers is #1 because it's badass. Every single person I've talked to that has been to advanced screenings says the same thing. Every one on this site that has seen advanced screenings also say the same thing. It is unanimous that the movie is spectacular. It is a bit more than promotion that is selling this up. And even still, promoting the shit out of a movie doesn't guarantee people wanna see it. Need I remind you of Green Lantern, or more recently John Carter. Those movies both spent more than 100 mil in marketing, and it didn't help at all. Now, I cannot remember a time during the past 6-8 months when any major site released any poll that stated higher anticipation for TDKR than Avengers so you'll have to gimme proof or I call BS bud. Not sayin' it didn't happen, just that I'm skeptical and I confess my memory ain't what it used to be.
samster10001 - 4/17/2012, 5:21 AM
1.The Dark Knight Rises
2.Skyfall
3.Prometheus
4.The Bourne Legacy
5.The Avengers

Now wrap that shat up!
ralfinader - 4/17/2012, 5:21 AM
Not suprising, Avengers has had a genious marketing strategy. Some of the other movies listed, or not listed, have failed to market themselves properly at this point. Spiderman is wasting time advertising on Ellen, and TDKR has achieved more negative press with Bane's voice than anything else so far. Was not expecting to see the Bourne rebootquel on the list up there though! Bourne must be advertising, but I haven't seen squat about it except on this site.
Ranger14 - 4/17/2012, 5:25 AM
"we can't really assume people don't wanna watch another orgin/remake when it's a reboot"

Not assuming anything. I am stating what people I know have told me and I did say reboot. The fact remains that TASM doesn't have a major draw in their main cast, so that doesn't help it out. Hell, I'm a Spidey fan and I'm not excited about this one. Time will tell how it all shakes down.
Godzillafart - 4/17/2012, 5:31 AM
Let's face it, the more we see the more it seems that Avengers is exceeding all expectations. I'm sure TDKR will be good, but Avengers is a game changer.
