Deadline reveals that early box office estimates have already seen Marvel's The Avengers break records in the few territories it was released in earlier today. The film has already made an estimated $8M in total after opening in Australia ($6M), Taiwan ($1.2M) and New Zealand ($700K). This is Australia's second highest opening day of all time (behind only the final Harry Potter film) and the highest ever for a Marvel/Disney movie. In Taiwan, Joss Whedon's superhero ensemble has taken the accolade of being the biggest Wednesday opening in the country, the biggest opening day of 2012 so far (an amazing 173% above Battleship) and the second biggest opening day for any Marvel film. With the retitled Avengers Assemble set to be released in the UK and several other locations tomorrow, we'll be sure to keep you up to date with the performance of a film which now looks set to easily be Marvel's biggest hit yet. It's worth noting that Battleship has already made well over $100M internationally before being released in the US, so one can only speculate just how well it will end up doing before May 4th.

STARRING:

Chris Evans as Steve Rogers/Captain America
Robert Downey Jr. as Tony Stark/Iron Man
Chris Hemsworth as Thor
Jeremy Renner as Clint Barton/Hawkeye
Scarlett Johansson as Natasha Ramanoff/Black Widow
Mark Ruffalo as Bruce Banner/Hulk
Samuel L. Jackson as Nick Fury
Clark Gregg as Agent Coulson
Cobie Smulders as Maria Hill
Tom Hiddleston as Loki

RELEASE DATE: April 26th, 2012. (UK) May 4th, 2012. (US)

Sweet. One week till the midnight premiere. PUMPED
JDUKE25 - 4/25/2012, 5:15 PM
I'd say it will make anywhere between $700-900 million. But it wouldn't shock me if it made more than that.
Haduken - 4/25/2012, 5:18 PM
I had the privilege to watch the it yesterday in Oz.
I still think from a story point of view, TDK is a stronger film. However, this has got to be the best comic book action I have ever witnessed on Screen.
The 2 are completely different films but overall, this is the best CBM to date.
The “Hulk-out” at the end of the movie to me was worth the price of the ticket alone.
I hope it makes over a $bil$

#Ironman53 yeah, I think TASM will do well, I'm hoping anyway. Gonna be hard with TDKR opening 2 weeks later. But I think it'll get a solid $600 million at least. And 3D sales will help it too. That's what I'm gonna see it in, since it was shot specifically for that and not converted.
JDUKE25 - 4/25/2012, 5:29 PM
@Ironman53 yeah, cuz in the end...it's still Spider-Man. People are going to watch it.

My friends, I only comment on here now & again but after reading every Avengers article over the years, I just wanted say how much I have enjoyed the last few years leadup to the Avengers alongside you fine people. The very long lead up since the awesome Iron Man has been so much more fun because I have been able to share it with my fellow CBM fans

Thank you Teabag (and Ironman53 too!) for the boobs and the witty comments, Gusto for being everybody’s favourite drunk grandpa, grif for being the most negative human on Earth, TheBlackWidow & CherryBomb for their constant cute commentary on what they would do to each male in every CBM (lol) & even the trolls for their unrelenting bashing that none of us wanted lol And of course, all the rest of you too

So, with the Avengers finally here (I CANT BELIEVE IT, DOESNT FEEL REAL!), I hope all of us get the Avengers we deserve (by the sounds of the reviews, we have) & I hope its the beginning of another ton of awesome Marvel & DC movies for many years to come. We are truly living in a golden age of comic book movies with the awesome Batman & Spider-Man still to come this year!
dancingmonkey08 - 4/25/2012, 5:49 PM
Oh and about the Avengers doing so well in the box office:

I AM SO HAPPY!

Gonna watch this at least 10 times. I'm serious, I already got enough money in my wallet to do it, even if my parents don't agree.
Gerrit - 4/25/2012, 5:56 PM
@dancingmonkey08, you sir, are awesome.
UnscrupalousSmurf - 4/25/2012, 5:59 PM
It took a group of super powered goons to take down the Batman. You win Marvel!

Damn its going to be a great summer of movies. Cant wait to see who the champ is when the dust settles
Boekelaar - 4/25/2012, 6:09 PM
I was there.
And it was amazing.
I'm still trying to come to terms with how amazingly awesome it was.
And I think it could have done better in the cinmeas if it's opened on a different public holiday. It was ANZAC Day (a day where we remember our soldiers) plus there were two huge sporing events on. The AFL match of Collingwood Vs Essendon which had a crowd of over 85,00 and then a NRL match with a crowd of over 40,000 not to mention all the people who were watching it on TV.
If it had been Queens Birthday or something it would have destroyed Harry Potters record.
prad18 - 4/25/2012, 6:19 PM
I saw the movie yesterday on opening day in Sydney, Australia. All I can say is that this movie lives up to the hype. It has the best action scenes seen in a comic book movie to date and it has the best version of Hulk seen on either the big or small screen. Hulk completely owns this movie. I loved it. It is seriously that good. You yanks will loose your $hit when you finally get to see it.
CitizenOfAsgard - 4/25/2012, 6:20 PM
As I have already stated before, worldwide $$$ shall be somewhere between $750 million to over a billion dollars. It won't make "Avatar" money, but common sense would dictate that, with this many characters, each one having their own "relative" success, 1 billion dollars is certainly not unreasonable.
prad18 - 4/25/2012, 6:24 PM
I should also add that there was a new TDKR trailer in 2D and then an Amazing Spider-Man trailer in 3D before the Avengers movie started.
CitizenOfAsgard - 4/25/2012, 6:31 PM
@doosh - Obviously, RDJ has gotten a lot older, (and obviously wiser), not to mention he's not on drugs anymore. That scene smacks of crack.
Bobevanz - 4/25/2012, 6:35 PM
Blast off!

Everyone's going to see this flick! At least avatar numbers i sayz.

CitizenOfAsgard - 4/25/2012, 6:38 PM
Anyway, let's all make this movie a rousing success. Tell all your friends (if they haven't heard it already, lol) to go see our "little" movie, that way we get another glorious installment! 'NUFF SAID!!
2gold - 4/25/2012, 6:42 PM
It is not going to get Avatar money. Avatar was IMAX and 3D visual porn. And it snuck in a love story to get more out of the females on the fence. Honestly, hope I'm wrong, I'd LOVE to see a cbm get Avatar money. Avatar was getting people going back seven or eight times because they seriously just wanted to look at the pretty colors and pretend they lived in that world. That's how it became number one of all time: INSANITY!
CitizenOfAsgard - 4/25/2012, 6:43 PM
@bobevanz , I don't know where you got that picture of all the Marvel and DC heroes/actor likenesses assembled in the theatre, but it's classic. Wolverine, Hellboy and the Thing look amazingly awesome, just like the real deal.
TheBatman1 - 4/25/2012, 6:53 PM
And there came a day, a day unlike any other, when CBM's mightiest fanboys and fangirls found themselves united against a wonderful movie. On that day, the Avengers was watched—to beat the box office records no single super hero could beat! Through the years, fans have waited for this movie, but their excitment has never faltered! Heed the call, then—for now, the Avengers Assemble!
CPBuff22 - 4/25/2012, 7:11 PM
I can see that. I went to a summer preview party at Celebration Cinema tonight where they show trailers for all the summer blockbusters and they asked every one to fill out a survey before the screening and after so they can gauge what movies are most anticipated. They announced the results of the survey that was taken prior to the screening and Avengers was most anticipated followed by the new Bourne movie, Brave, Prometheus, and Abraham Lincoln Vampire Hunter. And the audience was quite a mix of demographics. Ages 10-80 years old if I was to guess.
ckal - 4/25/2012, 7:12 PM
Wait, what did I just read?

Breaking records....in second place? (behind HP72)
superotherside - 4/25/2012, 7:14 PM

Boekelaar - 4/25/2012, 7:17 PM

pro346 - 4/25/2012, 9:13 PM

Cartoon22 - 4/25/2012, 9:20 PM
