Deadline has more estimates coming in from the 10 of the 42 territories that
Marvel's The Avengers has been released in over the past two days and it continues to break box office records. The superhero ensemble has now made $17.1M in total after impressive openings of $7.2M in Australia, $3.0 in France, $1.3M in the Philippines, $1.2M in Taiwan, and $800K in New Zealand. This is a particularly strong opening in Australia where it has opened 214% ahead of
Iron Man 2 and 136% ahead of
The Dark Knight. This is the highest opening day ever for a Disney film in the country.
In other news,
MovieTickets.com reveal that the film,
"is pre-selling more tickets for the upcoming release than the online ticketing company sold for Captain America, Thor, Iron Man 2, and Iron Man combined at the same point in the sales cycle for each film. In fact, pre-sales are over 1 1/2-times that of these past Marvel films combined sales at the same point in the sales cycle." To put this into perspective for you, tickets for
Marvel's The Avengers are selling 3,995% more tickets than
Captain America: The First Avenger, 1,034% more tickets than
Thor, 114% more tickets than
Iron Man 2, and 1,406% more tickets than
Iron Man.
