The good news keeps on coming for Marvel Studios. The Hollywood Reporter reveals that The Avengers is expected to become the studios most successful superhero movie so far, easily topping the previous record set in 2010 by Iron Man 2 ($623 million). The film has now made a whopping $218M overseas in its first six days of release and continues breaking record after record. With the May Day holiday in some countries today, another boost in takings is expected, while it's thought that the current international gross will be upwards of $400M by Sunday after being released in Russia and China. Throw in the fact that Earth's Mightiest Heroes also assemble in North America later this week and the film should be way past the $500M mark by Sunday.

STARRING:

Chris Evans as Steve Rogers/Captain America
Robert Downey Jr. as Tony Stark/Iron Man
Chris Hemsworth as Thor
Jeremy Renner as Clint Barton/Hawkeye
Scarlett Johansson as Natasha Ramanoff/Black Widow
Mark Ruffalo as Bruce Banner/Hulk

Clark Gregg as Agent Coulson
Cobie Smulders as Maria Hill

Nice. It's on it's way. Transformers 3 opened in 58 territories and made $219.8M in 5 days, going on to make $1B. Avengers opened in only 39 territories and has made $218M in 6 days. $1+B is attainable with these numbers.

I'll be surprised if this surpasses the 650 million mark eventually. The general audience is still not convinced.

Well now it needs to make ANOTHER 500 million to pass the billion mark.

but a lot of people seem interested in the box office. More than usual. I mean we all knew it was going to make boat loads of money.

for me? As long as I don't get a check from Marvel i i don't care how much it makes lmao

They already greenlit Avengers 2.

The world doesn't want the depressing gloom and epic doom of TDKR. We don't want to be told how shitty our current world is. We need heroes. Big heroes with bright colours, fighting aliens, laughing and joking the whole time. I think the Box Office figures will end up proving me right, on this.

@DoubleD
Speaking as a indie producer and comic book fan, i have been trolling the net for the latest information on the avengers numbers (trust me folks, there is a good reason why everyone is watching this... this is a game changer as far as how the industry can work).

But the big thing is you are wrong. The highest grossing movie of all time (without adjusting for inflation) is Avatar at 2.7 Billion USD. If you adjust for inflation, the biggest money maker ever is still Gone with the wind at just over 3 billion.

@ Duke Acureds... couldn't agree with you more. People are sick of doom and gloom between the economy, crappy jobs etc etc etc Movies/cinema has always been an escape method for the masses.

It also helps you put someone in charge that knows how to deal with ensemble casts and is a fanboy himself. :)

I'm anxious to see how much it makes when it opens in China this weekend. I don't know how similar the appeal is to Titanic, but Titanic 3D opened in China with $67M. After 12 days, it had made $105.2M just from China.

We know China is really into American blockbusters, so I can see the Avengers cleaning up there.
Shaman
Shaman - 5/1/2012, 11:57 AM
tazmaniak- Not only that but since they will be very heavily featured in Ironman 3, they'll go all out in full support of The Avengers! Expect $150M in the first week just from China alone. It's a friggin' marketing strategy for them ;)
