Prometheus has opened up in several international locations this weekend, although it is in the UK where it has made the most impressive impact. Facing off against Universal's Snow White and the Huntsman, many wondered just how well the 15-rated sci-fi/horror mash-up would fare. Well, it's currently 319% ahead of Snow White's opening and has earned the accolade of having the highest opening day ever for a Ridley Scott film in the country. "We have had a superb start with Prometheus opening a clear No. 1 grossing £2.2m ($3.39M). This includes an estimated £200k ($306K) from special midnight screenings on Thursday," the studio told Deadline earlier today. The two x70mm IMAX locations in the UK (London and Manchester) reported sold out showings all day yesterday and even late night screenings were sold out in advance. Prometheus has also broken the record for advance IMAX sales beating both Avatar and Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part 2. Read my 5* review of the film by clicking HERE to check it out.

In the distant future, two superpowers control Earth and fight each other for all the solar system's natural resources. When one side dispatches a team to a distant planet to terraform it for human colonization, the team discovers an indigenous race of bio-mechanoid killers. Ridley Scott, director of 'Alien' and 'Blade Runner,' returns to the genre he helped define. With PROMETHEUS, he creates a groundbreaking mythology, in which a team of explorers discover a clue to the origins of mankind on Earth, leading them on a thrilling journey to the darkest corners of the universe. There, they must fight a terrifying battle to save the future of the human race.

FilmsFan - 6/2/2012, 6:14 PM
So glad!
SWATH was good too!!

But I'm really shocking happy that a 15 rated SciFi ALEIN Horror film takes the lead against a fairy tale featuring Kristen 'Bella' Steward & Chris 'Thor' Hemsworth & was also appealing to males for action & for females for obvious reasons!
So happy for Prometheus!
Fassbender & Rapace are destined to be huge
incrediblesuperbatspider - 6/2/2012, 6:16 PM

"It has Michael Fassbender and Idris Elba in it, your argument is invalid."

Umm... would you like a list of terrible films that had better acting duos or even trios than Fassbender and Elba? There's a lot more than the actors in a movie that make it worth watching.

I haven't heard many good things from my friends about the film other than the visuals.
StormLoganSummers - 6/2/2012, 7:30 PM
I'd rather watch the Avengers again.
abw2 - 6/2/2012, 7:34 PM

...I actually agree, in all fairness, with Ranger14 that you probably shouldn't, necessarily, make a decision on a film based, solely, on the actors that are involved the movie in question... However, by the same token I also agree with PreparationH that you shouldn't "judge a book by its cover", so to speak... If you're going to make a, fair, justified decision about anyone and/or anything then, yes, you should at the very least wait and get to know and/or see the person, or in this case film, before you, ultimately, pass judgment... Everyone is, of course, entitled to their own opinion, but, at the very least, they should still (...IMO...) try offer a more educated, if you will, opinion..., ya know?... *cool*/P :)

good to hear, i'll definately be checking it out next week.

As usual Grif and Pedo Bear always being a hater. Maybe you should be a director and show what a good movie really is!
thalidomide - 6/2/2012, 9:54 PM
lol. people are attacking grif while all he did was state his opinion about the movie, what a bunch of idiots.

pro346 - 6/2/2012, 10:08 PM
lets see how it does in the us.....the uk isnt really that big of a market anymore.
Scabsallover - 6/2/2012, 11:08 PM
My lady who saw it last night said SWATH was a pass. She doesn't always know what makes a good film, but she certainly knows a bad one when she sees it. She described it as boring and at times rather random, but with great visual effects.
Ranger14 - 6/2/2012, 11:53 PM
thalomide@ People always attack Grif. He has never ever attacked anyone here. He just states what he thinks about a film and moves on, albeit direct and not usually flowery. Nothing wrong with that. I have more respect for that then the many who choose to call posters names and attack them for what they think.

Went to see SWaTH and liked it a lot. Sure, it had its dull places but I gave it 8/10 on IMDB. I thought that Hemsworth and Stewart had really good chemistry and these two characters made the film for me.

And when people bash Stewart's performance in this movie and then add they hated Twilight, I completely disregard their opinion. Projecting their hatred for a movie on the actress much? I can take or leave Twilight but I thought she was really good in this one.

I'm glad to hear that Prometheus is doing well, considering I read some VERY discouraging reviews. For example, Den of Geek gave it only 2/5. I know better than to listen to critics, still it's good to know that people like it.

Prometheus was good, the story was a bit weak in places, but it looked amazing! you can really see the Giger influence in everything, right down to the "pyramid" (based on Dune II unless i'm very much mistaken)

The only bit of the film i didn't like was at the very end with the "big reveal" (which i won't go in to, spoilers and all)

We must clarify the information. In London and, by extension, other major cities in the UK, tickets are on average three times more than in the rest of Europe. Thus, the most expensive ticket Odeon cinema, where they often take the biggest releases cost about 18 pounds (about 22 €), while in neighborhood theaters can charge you 8 to 10 pounds (10 to 12 €). Not a bad release but not spectacular.
timotey - 6/3/2012, 3:23 AM
I think that people also mustn't forget that SWaTH is 2D only. Prometheus is 3D, which means more expensive tickets and bigger sales. I haven't seen Prometheus yet so I can't say anything about the quality of the movie. All I can comment on is SWaTH and that one was good.
vxMaverickxv - 6/3/2012, 7:59 AM
cant wait for this movie to come out in the US
jazzman - 6/3/2012, 8:34 AM
@Ranger14

dude the thing with Grif is he always say the movie is Cr*p even tho he has not watched the movie yet LOL. i.e. TDKR he always say its rubbish lol. i dont take Grif comments seriously anyway he always crack me up lol.

anyway Prometheus is a good movie dont expected it to be scary like the Alien movies. its more of a story driven movie.

@Grif...

That SWATH trailer was rad.

I wish SWATH did better, but there's just too many movies this year, some of even the good films won't make much.
marvelmark - 6/3/2012, 3:53 PM
No surprise it beat the record for pre sales, the tickets have been on sale for 5 weeks lol
gurugeorge - 6/3/2012, 5:43 PM
Just seen it. It's worth watching, and it's entertaining enough, but there's something a bit "phoned-in" about it. There's some great acting and superlative cinematography and fx, and a decent amount of horror and gore. But something about the script is just off, kind of unfocussed.

Basically it feels like a film where everyone was doing a professional job but nobody actually cared about the movie.
jj2112 - 6/4/2012, 5:42 AM
Everyone's saying it's OK but disappointing. What can you expect, it's written by Damon Lindelof, who's responsible for Lost's lame story and ending.
