That's Not "Iron Patriot" In IRON MAN 3 - It's War Machine!

While the Iron Patriot armour has been spotted on the set of Iron Man 3, it turns out that it isn't actually the Iron Patriot character as previously reported. Instead, it will be suit worn by none other than Col. James "Rhodey" Rhodes, a.k.a. War Machine.

Well, this is surprising, although makes perfect sense considering the fact that Iron Patriot is sporting a gun on his back similar to War Machine's. According to the ever reliable folks over at Latino Review, while that is the Iron Patriot armour in those photos from the set of Iron Man 3, it's not James Badge Dale's Coldblood under the armour or any other villain for that matter (in the comic books, it was Norman Osborn whoe donned the suit). Instead, that was just a white stuntman filling in for Don Cheadle during filming of a scene which also involved Tony Stark and other US military types. Their source on the set tells them that while he may end up being called "Iron Patriot" in the threequel, it IS still War Machine and simply Rhodey's new armour. So, NOT a new character who we will see facing off against Iron Man. Be sure to click on the link below for more details.

Interesting...
superotherside - 6/8/2012, 11:19 AM
Yeah. I figured either that or Detroit Steel. After I got to thinking about it. LOL. Should have predicted it and then everyone would have been like, "Wow, you're smart..." lol.

Cool though. Didn't really want it to be a bad guy so they could live up to their promise of having not other guys in armored suits...
Darkhawk8 - 6/8/2012, 11:31 AM
Awww wtf?!? I want war machine to look like war machine! the drone scene was the best part of iron man 2.
ksommer - 6/8/2012, 11:33 AM
That stinks! I was looking forward to some IP vs IM action.
Shaman - 6/8/2012, 11:37 AM
Get right outa town! War Machine's white???
SpiderFan35 - 6/8/2012, 11:39 AM
Wha?

Shaman - 6/8/2012, 11:40 AM
Oh it's a stuntman that doesn't look like anybody in the cast... my bad.
rebellion - 6/8/2012, 11:41 AM
o_O
sexfoodcomics - 6/8/2012, 11:42 AM
I knew they weren't going to call it iron patriot. They just gave it the paint job as an Easter egg for comic fans.
JDUKE25 - 6/8/2012, 11:42 AM
That's stupid.
TheAmazingChrisReeve63 - 6/8/2012, 11:45 AM
Ohhhhh....well, I guess my assumption(s) were wrong, I guess. Well, I definitely want to hear an explanation as to why Rhodey redesigned his War Machine armor. Maybe it will be for publicity stunt. Like a parade, as many other CBMers have said before. Again, IM3 is really getting interesting. :)
HelaGood - 6/8/2012, 11:45 AM
@IM53 i think rhodey was still too grossed out over tony and pepper kissing that he had to stay away even when the fate of the world (or at least Cleveland, er, NYC) was hanging in the balance.
ibravosp5 - 6/8/2012, 11:46 AM
I think Rhodey should've just kept the same armor.
HelaGood - 6/8/2012, 11:46 AM
i personally thought it was spider-man inside the suit.
sexfoodcomics - 6/8/2012, 11:47 AM
The paint job isn't going to be exactly like the comics cause the armor isn't exactly like the comics.
Ha1frican - 6/8/2012, 11:47 AM
[frick]. that.
himynameisnik - 6/8/2012, 11:47 AM
I prefer this to be honest, the U.S. Government using Rhodey's armour to inspire troops cause Iron Man won't do it for them? Who knows but I prefer this not being another big character
BooYah - 6/8/2012, 11:47 AM
I hope be doesn't keep this paint job throughout the movie. Looked better before.
natedetroit - 6/8/2012, 11:47 AM
still sounds like a take on Detroit Steel... considering it was decked out in Hammer tech.
shadyginzo - 6/8/2012, 11:50 AM
well that's a little less shit than having IP without Osborn I guess.
jessepostal - 6/8/2012, 11:50 AM
I hope war machine and iron man for that matter do some serious damage in this one
bhorwith22 - 6/8/2012, 11:51 AM
Makes sense actually. The design could just be government propaganda, kind of like Captain America's suit.
TheAmazingChrisReeve63 - 6/8/2012, 11:51 AM
Maybe an easter egg or a nod to the Iron Patriot armor. I mean, this 'redesigned' War Machine does have a similar look or design to the Iron Patriot armor. Or maybe the government wanted Rhodey to pull off a publicity stunt for the public, I guess.

Stay EPIC, my friends!
darkmetal - 6/8/2012, 11:54 AM
The military would not publically call something War Machine, unless 12 year old boys ran the military.
TheAmazingChrisReeve63 - 6/8/2012, 11:56 AM
@53, Hell, I would think more like 9 or 10 seconds top. That'll be enough time for a good look at this easter egg. And nice Iron-Man/War Machine bomb and T&A bomb. ;)
MARVELPSYCHO79 - 6/8/2012, 11:57 AM
I don't believe this one.Why would they change War Machine's armor colors.I will wait for some official news from Marvel Studios.
ACira - 6/8/2012, 11:57 AM
Hope it's a temporary redesign, I prefer War Machine's black and grey classic look.
ItsNotASchooner - 6/8/2012, 11:57 AM
i can see that.
governments War Machine suit gets a repaint job

I just like the inclusion of the visuals
OdinsBeard - 6/8/2012, 11:57 AM
well... i was WRONG.
OdinsBeard - 6/8/2012, 11:58 AM
wonder why most sites were claiming that it was the actor under that suit.
SpiderFan35 - 6/8/2012, 12:00 PM
lol Tea, love the random.
TheRedSkull - 6/8/2012, 12:01 PM
Myes I approve this
SpiderFan35 - 6/8/2012, 12:04 PM
CharlesTheIncredible - 6/8/2012, 12:05 PM
I said that they turned WM's armor into the iron patriot armor because of the guns on his back. That doesnt mean Rhodey is gonna stay in the suit. It fits with wat theyve been building. Theyve always wanted Tonys suit so I assume after Rhodey left with it in IM2 they took it and repainted it. We'll see how it gets executed in the movie but I always knew that was the WM suit, they TURNED it into Iron Patriot tho
AlSimmons - 6/8/2012, 12:07 PM
It makes sense that he would get a paint job. Now he's like Robo-cap or something.
TheAmazingChrisReeve63 - 6/8/2012, 12:10 PM
@Tea - Teabag's your name, and randomness/T&A is your game. ;)
AlexDeLarge87 - 6/8/2012, 12:11 PM
Im sure its gonna be just a temporary design in the film made for some celebration ceremony or something.
95 - 6/8/2012, 12:12 PM
Techically, I could still be right if he's called Iron Patriot instead of War Machine. Guys who Detroit Steel were absolutely wrong, though (lol!). I still like this new look. And I guess it's good that someone else (Eric Savin) isn't getting the suit -- only Stark and Rhodey are worthy. Even though I was looking forward to a reinterpreted Coldblood-7. Guess we're really getting a cyborg then. Would be cool if he looked like a Terminator! Terminator vs. Iron Man would be worth an admission and two.
ComicBookKidUK - 6/8/2012, 12:13 PM
Well, that sucks...

The image was awesome for the hype but if it actually does turn out to just be War Machine I can see it backfiring and pissing off a lot of people.
DanteSparda - 6/8/2012, 12:15 PM
I knew it! I [frick]ing knew it! But when I said it in the first article everyone called me crazy and asked me nicely to leave the site I hate you guys :'(
TheAmazingChrisReeve63 - 6/8/2012, 12:16 PM
@53, Hell, yeah, dude. That's what I live about this site. We come here and whatever news we get about an upcoming movie (for instance, IM3) we just begin our really interesting speculation(s) about the characters, the plot, etc. And since you've mentioned the SHIELD Council, hell, they may as well have some sort of doing or part in this movie, may it be big or small. And who's this 'he' that you're talking about having mixed feelings about the public? Do you mean Nick Fury?
blvdnoise - 6/8/2012, 12:16 PM
Told Ya!
GreyChaos13Zero - 6/8/2012, 12:19 PM
that's weird, why not just give him a new slicker War Machine armour that's still gray. I still think it's cool tho?)

GUNSMITH - 6/8/2012, 12:19 PM
WELL, IT'S DIFFERENT...BUT TOO SHOWY FOR WAR MACHINE..SHOULD STAY WITH THE GREYS, MORE BAD AZZ THAT WAY IF IT'S GREY.
LAXtremest - 6/8/2012, 12:20 PM
Im sure War Machine in red, white, and blue has something to do with the story. The U.S. using it as propaganda or something.
Ranger14 - 6/8/2012, 12:21 PM
I didn't figure it was Iron Patriot. Stark has a lot of different versions of the armors and having a patriotic one doesn't necessarily translate to it being Iron Patriot. They could have designed it for a special 4th of July celebration or some dedication and Rhodes wears it.
MrsTonyStark0507 - 6/8/2012, 12:21 PM
I figured too, by the gun on his shoulder. That makes me happy. I was worried they were trying to force too many bad guys into the story. Plus Norman Osbourn can't be in it, so that would totally screw up the story.
Mercwitham0uth - 6/8/2012, 12:22 PM
Da fuq? I hope he has that version of the suit very briefly. I want the original WM suit back.
JMESS - 6/8/2012, 12:23 PM
meh
MadJakHatesSpinoffs - 6/8/2012, 12:24 PM
I just hope Iron Man 3 doesn't have 3 villaims like Spider-Man 3 did. Y'know, the more I think about it, Spider-Man 3 really should have been in the puke fest 1 star review in my best to worst Marvel movies post.
