Principal photography has commenced in Toronto, Ontario on the highly anticipated horror film CARRIE, it was announced today by Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer (MGM) and Screen Gems. Director Kimberly Peirce (Boys Don’t Cry; Stop-Loss) reimagines Stephen King’s best-selling novel for MGM and Screen Gems’ take on the enduring genre classic. Starring Chloe Grace Moretz (Hugo), four time Oscar-nominee Julianne Moore (Crazy, Stupid, Love; The Kids are Alright) and Judy Greer (The Descendants), CARRIE tells the supernatural tale of a telekinetic teenage girl tormented by her peers. CARRIE is slated for a 2013 theatrical release.

The quiet suburb of Chamberlain, Maine is home to the deeply religious and conservative Margaret White (Moore) and her daughter Carrie (Moretz). Carrie is a sweet but meek outcast whom Margaret has sheltered from society. Gym teacher Miss Desjardin (Greer) tries in vain to protect Carrie from local mean girls led by the popular and haughty Chris Hargenson (Portia Doubleday, Youth in Revolt), but only Chris’ best friend, Sue Snell (Gabriella Wilde, The Three Musketeers), regrets their actions. In an effort to make amends, Sue asks her boyfriend, high school heartthrob Tommy Ross (newcomer Ansel Elgort), to take Carrie to prom. Pushed to the limit by her peers at the dance, Carrie unleashes telekinetic havoc. Brian De Palma’s 1976 film version of CARRIE earned Oscar nominations for stars Sissy Spacek and Piper Laurie.

MGM and Screen Gems’ CARRIE is directed by Kimberly Peirce and produced by Kevin Misher (Public Enemies). J. Miles Dale (The Vow) serves as executive producer and Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa (Big Love) wrote the script from King’s original story. CARRIE’s creative team includes Director of Photography Steve Yedlin (Looper), Production Designer Carol Spier (Eastern Promises),Costume Designer Luis Sequeira (The Thing) and Editor Lee Percy (Boys Don’t Cry).

Many thanks to Page To Premiere for the above set photo. The original Carrie has become something of a cult classic, although a remake far more faithful to the Stephen King book should come as good news to fans. The actress recently told Vanity Fair, "I’m not watching it (1976 Carrie) in preparation for the movie because we’re doing something totally different and I’m trying to bring my own take into it. I am changing everything about me—my hair, my look. I’m doing my own take on [the character]. The script is totally different from the [original]. It’s more like the book. It’s a more Black Swan version—it messes with your mind."

wow, officially unnecessary!
santoanderson - 6/27/2012, 4:44 PM
Carrie has already been re-made half a dozen times, at least in the direct-to-dvd/TV sense, but c'mon, has Hollywood really gotten to the point where they have to make remakes of remakes of remakes?

I would sooner sit through Battleship than watch another Carrie movie...
TheDpool - 6/27/2012, 4:45 PM
Personally didnt think that Carrie needed remade but hey welcome to Hollywood, Moretz is a little hottie so im afriad she'll come off too cute for audiences to belive shes bullied and what not I mean Sissy has a strange look about her that helped you believe how shy and uncomfortable around people she was.
tweeeeenkies3 - 6/27/2012, 4:45 PM
Before I read the title, I saw the image of her, and thought she was was Sarah Michelle Gellar.

Chloe is one very mature looking girl!
Ranger14 - 6/27/2012, 4:51 PM
They're casting a 15 year old for a high school part? Huh? Incredible!

That being said...another remake...another indication that Hollywood is out of ideas.
TheHitchhikingGhost - 6/27/2012, 5:17 PM
Terrible.
CharlesTheIncredible - 6/27/2012, 5:23 PM
@thecrisisking well thats prolly a picture of her in costume but off set so thats prolly why she has a cellphone. And she is a very cute girl, hell sissy spacek wasnt THAT bad looking in the original. I have hope cuz Chloe is a very good actress so i'll give this remake the benefit of the doubt
2gold - 6/27/2012, 5:43 PM
It sounds like she'll just be the sheltered shy girl and yeah, looks or not, the Mean Girls will destroy anyone who is an obstacle. So nothing wrong with her having some looks. And Chloe can do the angry facial expressions with the best of them. But I can already see this movie getting attacked for it "encouraging bullied kids to harm their bullies". I'm intrigued but I still won't go see it in theaters. Been to this dance enough to know the playlist.
AlexDeLarge87 - 6/27/2012, 5:45 PM
Black Swan and Let Me In approach could work.
AlexDeLarge87 - 6/27/2012, 5:45 PM
She was [frick]ing great in Let Me In
justified1 - 6/27/2012, 5:50 PM
probably won't be as good as the original (actually, expecting it)

but will have to wait and see.

She kind of looks like a loser.
DeathstrokeSlade - 6/27/2012, 5:52 PM
If i wasn't mistaken it would be third time for this film to have it's reboot. the original is now a classic.
TheHitchhikingGhost - 6/27/2012, 5:54 PM
Oh look, Chloe found one face for her character that she'll overly exploit the entire film. Shocker.
DudeGuyMan - 6/27/2012, 5:55 PM
Watcher - 6/27/2012, 6:00 PM
See, I am totally with everybody that says that this is unnecessary. In it's way, Carrie is a real classic, and they probably just shouldn't even go there because if it isn't just utterly amazing, people will forever be comparing it unfavorably to the original.

bane187 - 6/27/2012, 6:14 PM
I really hope this movie doesnt suck like other horror movies now a days
ISleepNow - 6/27/2012, 6:17 PM
she's too pretty. Who's gonna believe she's the outcast?
SamHell - 6/27/2012, 6:24 PM
tweeeeenkies3 - 6/27/2012, 6:30 PM
I am in high school, so I know first hand you can be gorgeous/cute/pretty/sexy and be the biggest outcast.

There are always pretty girls who are outcasts...so I don't think that being "too pretty" exists for such a role.
Unless, of course you are following the cliche that only the geeks, uglies, and poors are outcasts.

Movies are NOTHING like real school.

A Carrie remake?! I would normally say: "Booo!!!" — but Chloë Grace Moretz in the title role is worth a look.
sinister84 - 6/27/2012, 6:58 PM
chloe moretz? i'm in!
IronSpider101 - 6/27/2012, 7:16 PM
Here come all the pedophiles that are going to lust on Chloe because she engaged in over-the-top violence and gave an average performance in one movie a couple years ago.
CyberBishop - 6/27/2012, 7:24 PM
Hell no.. No way they can top the original... They need to leave well enough alone..
hope420 - 6/27/2012, 7:48 PM
I'm just gonna have to wait for a trailer before I say anything.
Ranger14 - 6/27/2012, 7:58 PM
I don't know...she looks pretty "blah" in the article photo.
Frankie312 - 6/27/2012, 8:01 PM
I feel like there using Chloe to send kinda like an anti bullying msg in this movie...Lets see how this turns out.
BANE5000 - 6/27/2012, 8:14 PM
All i know is i still want theatrical version of IT and make it creepy and scary as hell, damn the standards these days of what passes as a " horror" film. U can make it a two parter so we can get everything from the novel in it....and i still say Vincent D'onofrio as Pennywise the clown :]
KungFuGee - 6/27/2012, 8:43 PM
Nope... not watchin it. The movie has been done already. There are millions of untold stories out there... and this is what they come up with. I wish they would stop trying to feed us the same crap re-hashed.
subzero1077 - 6/27/2012, 8:44 PM
The cool thing about rebooting this movie is that this may lead to them doing more reboots of King's movies, which then could lead to The Dark Tower movies to tie them all together!
KingEmperor - 6/27/2012, 8:56 PM
Isn't Carrie supposed to be some sort of plain jane? Coz Chloe Moretz is anything but.
Ceejay - 6/27/2012, 10:49 PM
Miscast, way too cute for Carrie.
Bark4Soul - 6/27/2012, 11:06 PM
Chloe is hot sauce, man I'm afraid by the time we see Kick Ass II she is going to be waaay too tall and too hot, she'll be Hit-woman
Ranger14 - 6/28/2012, 12:09 AM
Wow....I just don't see what others are seeing in that photo. I don't know how much more plain looking a girl could look. To each their own, I guess.
DarthLaney - 6/28/2012, 3:29 AM
And this is a comicbookmovie??
UltimateSpiderman - 6/28/2012, 3:39 AM
Carrie in the book was fat and ugly for [frick] sake.
TheDickRises - 6/28/2012, 4:12 AM
I can smell pedophile on this site
CrowPirate1 - 6/28/2012, 5:01 AM
my friend finally sighed and said to me..."you know that Hitgirl chick?" I said "yeah?" "She's finally growing up, and I don't have to feel weird for crushing a lil on her."

Thank god I am gay. lol I'm no longer the perv. woohoo
australiancomicbookmoviefan - 6/28/2012, 5:49 AM
Its gotta have nudity, like the de Palma classic or GTFO.

By the way the way when the frick is the original film gonna get a blu-ray release. (I realized as I was typing this, that now another version is about to hit, probably very soon...)
comicb00kguy - 6/28/2012, 6:09 AM
And here is today's exhibit for WHY. DePalma's film did an EXCELLENT translation of the book, right up there with Firestarter as the best translation of a Stephen King book to the big screen. WHY do we need to remake it? And WHY cast an attractive girl in the part? Others here have said it right- Carrie was not attractive. She was that plain, ugly chick that was shunned by all her classmates. We had a couple in my school. I'm sure most of you had at least one too. Also, it wasn't like this story required special effects that were beyond the tech of the mid '70s to tell. Another completely unnecessary remake. At least this one isn't raping the memory of the '80s.
CherryBomb - 6/28/2012, 8:59 AM
I love Chloe Moretz, BUT, I'd rather have seen Elizabeth Olsen as Carrie.

CherryBomb - 6/28/2012, 9:03 AM
Chloe is a really talented actress, she'll do the role justice.
BUT, I hope they make the story more modern, and don't set it in the 70's. That would just ruin it.
Scabsallover - 6/28/2012, 9:42 AM
Carrie was a comic book?
Turtlestrong - 6/28/2012, 1:48 PM
Hmmm...

I guess we are in the age of remakes and reboots.

So maybe 25 or 30 years from now there will be a Twilight remake...

Avengers remake...

Harry Potter remake....

(insert movie) remake
