"Eventually, who knows? But the next movie will take place in relative proximity to this one," producer Matt Tolmach told MTV Splash Page in a recent interview when asked whether the Peter Parker in this movie universe will ever catch up to Andrew Garfield's actual age of 28 (for those of you who may not have realised, the British actor plays a high school student in The Amazing Spider-Man). "We have more business to do here [and now] with the character," he adds. "The story, there's a lot more to be told in this story, and this quest that he's on. So there won't be a huge time jump."

As for which villains we should expect to see in the follow-up, he refused to drop even the most minor of hints. However, he teased, "There are so many good ones, but I don't want to give anything away. That's the coolest surprise!" As for whether we'll see a female villain like the Black Cat appear, he smiled and said only, "I like those [characters] too." It looks as if we'll be waiting a little while longer to find out! Who would you like to see Spider-Man facing off against in the planned sequel? (currently being written by Alex Kurtzman and Roberto Orci and rumoured to have a release date of 2014) Sound off with your thoughts in the usual place.

The Amazing Spider-Man is the story of Peter Parker (Garfield), an outcast high schooler who was abandoned by his parents as a boy, leaving him to be raised by his Uncle Ben (Sheen) and Aunt May (Field). Like most teenagers, Peter is trying to figure out who he is and how he got to be the person he is today. Peter is also finding his way with his first high school crush, Gwen Stacy (Stone), and together, they struggle with love, commitment, and secrets. As Peter discovers a mysterious briefcase that belonged to his father, he begins a quest to understand his parents' disappearance - leading him directly to Oscorp and the lab of Dr Curt Connors (Ifans), his father's former partner. As Spider-Man is set on a collision course with Connors' alter-ego, The Lizard, Peter will make life-altering choices to use his powers and shape his destiny to become a hero.

STARRING:

Andrew Garfield as Peter Parker/Spider-Man
Emma Stone as Gwen Stacy
Rhys Ifans as Curt Connors/The Lizard
Martin Sheen as Uncle Ben
Sally Fields as Aunt May
Denis Leary as George Stacy

RELEASE DATE: July 3rd, 2012.

I would love to see Wilson Fisk aka the Kingpin in the sequel if the rights didn't belonged to Fox...
MrReese - 7/2/2012, 9:38 AM
Save GG 4 the third & bring on a new villain like Mysterio or Electro.
MrReese - 7/2/2012, 9:42 AM

just have gg to kill gwen in the next one. if they use some common sense, they'll do it.
TrueRedBlue - 7/2/2012, 9:43 AM
Cool. Fast forward a few hours so I can behold this greatness.
MJPETTY7 - 7/2/2012, 9:44 AM
GREEN GOBLIN!!!!!
Sabconth - 7/2/2012, 9:45 AM
@rebellion

Sony and common sense havent been friends since 2005.
RAWRG - 7/2/2012, 9:50 AM
bring on some new villains like mysterio or kingpin
rocky - 7/2/2012, 9:50 AM
All signs point to Proto Goblin as the next heavy.
I assume we'll find out after watching the film for a better indication
0ptimusCrime - 7/2/2012, 9:52 AM
I really like 2 see venom done right, would be great to see him fight spider-man.

i HOPE we get GG for TASM2 and kill of gwen (no hate against gwen) and then introduce Mary Jane.

and i agree with Owlman, Black cat is great! i love the rivalry between cat and mj. that can be very cool on the big screen
ATrueHero1987 - 7/2/2012, 9:54 AM
Matt Tolmach...this fuc ker. Smdh
TrueRedBlue - 7/2/2012, 9:54 AM
Well apparently there is a teaser at the end of the credits that'll tease the sequel's villain, so hopefully we get some Goblin love in there.
ComicBookKidUK - 7/2/2012, 9:56 AM
I have a theory...

1 - Lizard, possible introduction of Norman Osborn
2 - Osborn development, green goblin, Death Of Gwen Stacy
3 - Based on Spider-Man Gone Mad! arc, Mysterio sends Spider-Man mad with his usual brand of trickery not letting him get over the death of Gwen.
4 - Ultimate Comics: Death of Spider-Man.

I guess we'll find out if Osborn is introduced tomorrow :)
Odin - 7/2/2012, 9:56 AM
Spiderman has so many great unused enemies, like mysterio, electro, vulture, rhino, shocker, kraven or scorpion, that it would be complete waste of characters to start reuse those of that Sam Raimi already used. And I also wonder if they are going to use man-spider story, since they did put it into the game as a costume.
dellamorte1872 - 7/2/2012, 9:57 AM
these two writers like personal stories...my bets are either SPIDER-SLAYERS or SCORPION maybe both. they have yet to intro the daily bugle and there is no doubt they will! so those two are my guesses b/c they heavily involve JJJ and NY's opinion of SPIDEY; a smear campaign to make him look like a MENACE (copyrighted idea, keep in mind there legality involved with my ideas)
CaptainAmerica31 - 7/2/2012, 9:57 AM
I have a feeling we'll see proto-goblin in the first half then we're gonna see a B-class(electro,mysterio etc.) then, enter green goblin then kill Gwen off in the end. The sequels to reboots are always good some reason let's just hope this will also.
0ptimusCrime - 7/2/2012, 10:00 AM
WATCH THE POST CREDITS SCENE, you'll get youre answer...kinda...
Maxi91291 - 7/2/2012, 10:00 AM
I just watched TASM review by Jeremy Jahns.
Best line :
"You know PEter Parker is this nerdy kid, quiet, keeps to himself, sits in the back of the class, he is really good at science, hangs out in the basement, Im pretty sure if he didnt become spider-man hed become a serial killer"
FireKnightRises - 7/2/2012, 10:05 AM
@Maxi91291
what a dick review, just because you nerdy and being bullied that doesn't mean you won't become good people
Odin - 7/2/2012, 10:05 AM
I was thinking that this movie series could use Norman Osborn as "mastermind-behind-evrything" kind of character, instead of being the actual killer he could be the one resbonssible for Gwens death.
Sabconth - 7/2/2012, 10:06 AM
The post credit scene doesn't really hint at any villian, only that a certain plot point will carry over to the next film/s.
Maxi91291 - 7/2/2012, 10:10 AM
@DarKnightRises Of course but It was kinda funny. In a non-reality related way
Danbojohnj - 7/2/2012, 10:10 AM
Goblin and Rhino
DrDoom - 7/2/2012, 10:12 AM
Mysterio is required.

But then again, I'd rather have Marvel make the movie instead.
Avenger32 - 7/2/2012, 10:23 AM
I'd really like to see Electro. He's my favorite spider-man villain. It'd be awesome if they had 2 or even 3. Electro, rhino, mysterio, vulture, shocker, and scorpion. Any of those would be awesome
JustCallMeRazzy - 7/2/2012, 10:24 AM
i would be so friggin happy if mysterio was in TASM2!! it would be awesome. him teaming up with the chameleon would be the greatest thing ever.
Godzillafart - 7/2/2012, 10:39 AM
I would love to see Kraven in the sequel. Done right, he could be fantastic.
forceflow23 - 7/2/2012, 10:45 AM
it'd be cool to see someone new like Mysterio or Hobgoblin in the sequel. I just hope they don't try to combine too many villains like in Spider-Man 3. 2 or 3 secondary villains would be ok. Or even main villain (GG, Venom, Mysterio, Carnage) paired with a secondary villain. On a side note, 11 hours and 15 minutes till we can finally see TASM. So stoked!
TayDee - 7/2/2012, 10:52 AM
It's a high chance Osborn will be in the sequel, he's mentioned in the film
thewonderer - 7/2/2012, 10:57 AM
They [frick]ing better do Venom in this
TayDee - 7/2/2012, 10:58 AM
and oz
SpideyBat33 - 7/2/2012, 11:03 AM
I wouldnt mind seeing black cat , but its gotta be the green goblin
bestintheworld - 7/2/2012, 11:12 AM
Mysterio? Electro? Comic book writers apparently ooze creativity in every area except the naming department.
TheAmazingSpiderMan47 - 7/2/2012, 11:13 AM
goin to see it tonight at 8 ... cant wait, im so excited
OptimisticPrime - 7/2/2012, 11:16 AM
Green Goblin and Doctor Octopus need to come in next to kill off the Stacys and make room for MJ!
kingshnake - 7/2/2012, 11:27 AM
green goblin, kill off Gwen in TASM2

TASM 3, mj, symbiote madness including venom and carnage. If there is no Carnage I will be writing a strongly worded letter
ibravosp5 - 7/2/2012, 11:31 AM
See this how it goes. If Green Goblins in it then Gwen will have to die. Now if the daredevil reboot lives in the same universe of this movie then One day they can make a spiderman/Daredevil movie. But not today.
MisterFixit - 7/2/2012, 11:33 AM
they will introduce MJ without killing Gwen
xfan320 - 7/2/2012, 11:48 AM
I really may be in the minority, but I always loved Spidey's "thug baddies" ie- Rhino, Scorpion, and shocker.

I wish they could use kingpin, but since they can't i'd like to see a JJJ mixed w a kraven storyline perhaps. The animal splicing is an obvious way to bring in multiple 'corny' villains while maintaining an intelligent plot tied into a world renowned big game hunter obsession.

All the while, you get great action and hilarious jokes.

Sounds a lil silly typin on my phone, but I know it could work!
MB007 - 7/2/2012, 11:49 AM
Sweet! :-)

I really hope that Gobbie will be in the sequel! :-D

BTW: Wasn't the sequel officialy announced for May 2014?
