BOX OFFICE: THE AMAZING SPIDER-MAN Nearing $200M Domestic; $500M Worldwide
Ice Age 4 may have knocked The Amazing Spider-Man from the #1 spot in North America, but it was still a good weekend for Marc Webb's reboot as the film is now expected to end its box office run with around $800 million worldwide. Read on for details.
Deadline reports that Marc Webb's The Amazing Spider-Man will finish this weekend with around $35 million; a decent -44% hold. Ice Age 4 (which grossed $45.5 million) is the reason why the Sony Pictures reboot only managed to hold on to the top spot for a week, although the release of The Dark Knight Rises next Friday is expected to completely suck the air out of the box office as Marvel's The Avengers did back in May. Back to this weekend though, and Spidey's latest big screen outing is expected to hit $200 million by close of business and actually passed the $500 million mark at the worldwide box office earlier this week. The studio are said to be confident that the film will end up grossing a worldwide cume of $800 million, although it still has quite a way to go before hitting that figure. Regardless, the film (which comes just 10 years after Spider-Man and five after Spider-Man 3 has been a success for the studio and a sequel is all but guaranteed at this point.
