Talking to journalists at the San Diego Comic-Con this weekend, Robert Downey Jr. has revealed a few new minor details as to what we should expect in the next highly anticipated Marvel Studios movie. A transcription of the interview has been provided below, although it's well worth fast forwarding to the 1:20 mark when Downey's Due Date co-star Zach Galifianakis crashes the chat with his own question for the actor. Check it out below and be sure to sound off with your thoughts on these comments in the usual place.

"I just like hanging out with the people; they kind of instil me. I feel like I'm at a filling station getting all kind of juice from the fans and then I'm gonna go and put that to use in the second half of the shoot."

"We're not as serious as The Dark Knight, but Tony definitely has, and always has historically in the comic books even more so, his inner demons. We did a little of that in Iron Man 2, but if you think about someone who saw the skies open up and came through a wormhole and fought off alien species, suffice to say he's a little rattled."

"Well, here's my problem. Every time one of my movies comes out, I think it's going to be the #3 biggest movie of all-time. And so, it's really weird, it's like I cried wolf and one actually showed up this time!"

"I dunno, I just said, 'While I'm still physically able, I'd like to leave it all on the field and I would like there to be ten moments where people wonder how I was stupid enough to actually do that stunt.' Most of all me."

^^^ Really...Boom! RDJ in a second..

Nice to see someone who's honestly excited and not afraid to say and show how much he likes the movies that he's in.
Lightsplasher - 7/17/2012, 5:28 AM

BenderDickCumPatch - 7/17/2012, 5:34 AM
No one can beat RDJ as Iron Man. EVER.

In fact Iron Man cannot be beaten, he kicks ass all day long and a badasss while doing it. Iron Man is beast. Simple.

Iron-Man is Marvel Studios most successful Charachter! I won't be shocked if he hits the billion dollar mark on his own next year. Most people think Spidey is Marvel's biggest Charachter but lets be serious in the last four years Iron-Man has reached iconic status.
dahamma - 7/17/2012, 5:48 AM
this guy is one of the best castings ever done period! Ya gotta love how down to earth he is considering he got 50 mill. for one movie
musashi - 7/17/2012, 5:53 AM
Did you watch the Iron Man 3 panel footage?

Shane Black: RDJ IS Tony Stark!!
RDJ: So you're saying I'm an asshole?

Haha He has made Tony Stark leap off the page. Anyone else trying to be Tony Stark in future movies will always be compared to him. Tough act to follow!
BlanketMan - 7/17/2012, 6:23 AM
Robert Downey Jr. is to Tony Stark/Iron Man as Christopher Reeve was to Clark Kent/Superman. Hear the character's name from now on, and Downey, like Reeve, is what fans will think of, regardless of who plays him later. I feel bad for the next actor who portrays Stark. He may as well change his middle name to "Not as Good as RDJ."
BlackSun77 - 7/17/2012, 6:24 AM
Not only does he digs the fans, but he also seems to bring the character to life. Do any of remember when Tom (I'm the Omega thetan.....Bitch) Cruise was interested in playing this role. Glad that didn't happen
BlackSun77 - 7/17/2012, 6:26 AM
(Sorry for the shitty grammar)

He made the Marvel Universe. Does anyone else here think that he could've made a groovy Dr Strange as well????
LtAnarchy - 7/17/2012, 6:35 AM
Im with you Deadpool. just kill him if your getting rid or RDJ
OhGawDuhhh - 7/17/2012, 6:39 AM
I love that guy. He's such a great actor, too! All the actors from the MCU have little to worry about in regards to being typecast in the future, you know what I mean?

Watch 'Puncture' with Chris Evans when you can on Netflix Streaming. Great movie and a GREAT performance. I love RDJ in 'The Soloist' and Mark Ruffalo in 'Blindness'. They're all great performances. We're very spoiled fans and it's great to see all of those fun childhood talks of 'how cool would it be if..' coming true.
AlienRobotZombieOverlord - 7/17/2012, 6:44 AM

I'm an old man, so let me tell ya, I never in a millions years would have thought the bully cool kid from "Weird Science" would be playing freaking Ironman. Awesome.
ATrueHero1987 - 7/17/2012, 7:16 AM
@BlackSun77 I remember Tom Cruise, Johnny Depp, and Nicolas Cage was going to play/interested in Tony Stark at one point.....O_o Good thing we got RDJ!!
vxMaverickxv - 7/17/2012, 7:19 AM

I laughed. Such a nice fella. I'd like to have a beer and talk some shit with this guy.
Fogs - 7/17/2012, 7:22 AM
@cole33 - I had that exact thought the other day, lol!
thalidomide - 7/17/2012, 7:38 AM
Best portrayal of a comic book character, EVER!.

RDJ is both Iron Man and Tony Stark.
CapeWing - 7/17/2012, 7:40 AM
The man is just awesome he really is. To think of his down points in life and how he bounced back not just as an actor but as a good person is just so great to see. I for just look at him and think, here is someone to aspire to and to be like. RDJ, you're a talented, smart and cool person. Great movies, great interviews, just great all around :)
rocky - 7/17/2012, 7:53 AM
Was he this cool before IM or did he just take it upon himself to embrace the character to the degree that he now embodies it?

I like Tom Cruise but to think that he was almost IM makes me ill now.
Thank God
Jollem - 7/17/2012, 7:59 AM
rdjr. is a great actor.

it's cool that he made his tony stark character his own and not really like the one from the books.

"the perfect tony stark"? not really, but it's good. it's funny. it works
Jollem - 7/17/2012, 8:18 AM
*Demon in a Pipe
SupermanReturns2 - 7/17/2012, 8:19 AM
Place me in the RDJ Lovefest. This has always been a brilliant talent, going all the way back to Less Than Zero. He's also been equally entertaining in independant fair; One Night Stand. Just this past weekend I marveled at his portrayal of the late, great Charlie Chaplin, in the film, CHAPLIN.
RJD, thanks for bringing Iron Man to life, and making him such an enjoyable, memorable, character.
Jollem - 7/17/2012, 8:25 AM
@blackandyellow - the shootin' or the snortin' kind of heroin?
blvdnoise - 7/17/2012, 8:29 AM
Zack Galajinakfhfes looking kind of rough aye?
marantaz - 7/17/2012, 8:46 AM
You can count on one paw of a three-toed sloth the number of celebrities that have the kind of respect and admiration RDJ has from (and gives to) the fans ... and still have one toe left over to pick your nose with.
Cosmo - 7/17/2012, 10:10 AM
I want RDJ to come to my town on April 4, because he & I share a birthday. Same year, and everything. There's a great mexican restaurant in town that pretty much lets you eat for free on your birthday. Meal, margarita, fried ice cream at the end--worth the trip! (in case RDJ is reading this. Call me.)
CoolantTech - 7/17/2012, 10:13 AM
God he'e such a great guy, Yeah he's kinda egotistical, but he's down to earth and funny as well, I would think that those personality traits, couldn't exist together, You know.. conceited yet humble, this guys is one of a kind
MrsTonyStark0507 - 7/17/2012, 10:29 AM
RDJ is absolutely brilliant and completely adorable!! He is the human embodiment of the Invincible Iron Man!!! I seriously can not even begin to imagine anyone else in that role (and I don't even want to!)!!! Does it make anyone else sad when he talks about leaving it all out on the field? I don't want Iron Man to end!

This is the first post on this site that has made smile and laugh in a very long time! Zach showing up really made me laugh!
ScottishSpider86 - 7/17/2012, 10:56 AM
Marvel have not made a bad cast yet. Fact! we are so lucky to have Tony Stark playing Tony Stark lol
Equivocal - 7/17/2012, 11:23 AM
@mryurmumm

and ???
how was it ?
Eli53 - 7/17/2012, 11:49 AM
RDJ is the Chuck Norris of the Marvel Universe!
Lol
But seriously he can be cocky all he wants. He's [frick]in' Iron Man!!!
rottencotten - 7/17/2012, 11:54 AM
@Scottish...you have got to be [frick]in' kidding me, not a bad choice?...let's start with Chris Evans as Cap?...or Don Cheadle as War Machine...or the one that gets under my skin the most, even though it's a Fox movie, but still Marvel, is Halle Berry as Storm!!..Marvel has had great casting, but has its share of horrible choices as well...
Tmachaveli - 7/17/2012, 12:17 PM
RDJ is a Boss Luv that guy
MrsTonyStark0507 - 7/17/2012, 12:17 PM
Rottencotten - Um, NO, Chris Evans is the PERFECT Captain America!! You are smoking some serious crack!!! Cap is my absolute favorite super hero and I can not think of another actor that could have done better with the role! He is as good looking (hot as hell!), charming and believable in that role.
Tmachaveli - 7/17/2012, 12:21 PM
@Rotten C Evans was great as Cap he gave the role a lot of heart and style and don was very Good as war machine
soforizo - 7/17/2012, 12:37 PM
RDJ has been the best casting in a comic book movie since Christopher Reeve. Hopefully the same could be said of Henry Cavill, once MOS is all set and done.

Really Marvel has done an excellent casting job for the most part; they just need to diversify the tone of their movies.
JredTheRed - 7/17/2012, 1:23 PM
@jollem - heroin is heroin. it can be smoked, shot, or snorted. Unless its that tar crap and then it cant be snorted. But being a recoving drug addict myself I'd say he was banging it. When you do H its really the only way.

Also yes RDJ was badass long before IM3. Kiss Kiss Bang Bang is one of my favorite movies ever. If you havent seen it check it out. Also Tropic Thunder and Sherlock Holmes films. RDJ is easily on of the top 5 actors of all time imo.
ralfinader - 7/17/2012, 1:35 PM
Rottencotten - Um, NO, Chris Evans is the PERFECT Captain America!! You are smoking some serious crack!!!

I second that comment. I was blown away by how he captured Cap. I assumed he would be like he was in FF or Scott Pilgrim or even the Losers, and was so glad I was proven wrong. Are you sure you actually watched Captain America and not FF2:RotSS?
Oxbow - 7/17/2012, 2:30 PM

haha RDJ is where art & life meet. I love his persona; it is as another person said, both conceited and humble. He is so much fun to watch, you can tell he's really enjoying himself!

Just take it away, Luther
breakUbatman - 7/17/2012, 3:17 PM
RDJ and Tony Stark are one and the same, Iron Man is still my favourite Marvel movie. If you watch his screen test you'll notice Tony was played a bit more seriously then they injected fun into the scenes.

I'm seriously hoping for some character development in IM3 as opposed to character moments.

Joss Whedon tried to make Tony "selfish" just so he could pull that fake sacrifice crap, and make it seem like development in Avengers. He clearly didn't pay attention to Iron Man 1.

"I shouldn't be alive... unless it was for a reason. I'm not crazy, Pepper. I just finally know what I have to do. And I know in my heart that it's right."

"I had my eyes opened. I came to realize that I had more to offer this world than just making things that blow up. And that is why, effective immediately, I am shutting down the weapons manufacturing division of Stark Industries.
Cosmo - 7/17/2012, 3:39 PM
I'll agree with rottencotten that not every casting in Marvel's movies are perfect. Don Cheadle--love his work, but would have liked to see Terrance Howard get that chance. Too bad. Chris Evans--better than I anticipated, but I have no alternative to be better. I think there was still some Human Torch hangover that may have led us to believe Evans couldn't pull off Cap.

The best Marvel casting ever, though is still J.K. Simmons as J. Jonah Jamison in the Sam Raimi Spiderman movies. Spot on perfect in every scene! "Parker, you're fired! Now get out there and take some pictures!"
