BOX OFFICE: THE AVENGERS Expected To Finish With $616M Domestic; $1.5B Worldwide

How's that for a coincidence? (the world in the Marvel comic books is often referred to as the, "616 Universe") Marvel's The Avengers is expected to finish its domestic and worldwide run with the above figures and you can find more details after the jump.

Forbes reports that Marvel's The Avengers is set to finish its worldwide run with a little more than $1.5 billion in total (it's impossible to be too specific at this point as it doesn't open in Japan until next month). Joss Whedon's superhero ensemble currently sits comfortably at the #3 spot of all-time highest grossing movies and that's where it will end its run, although the fact that it didn't take the top spot certainly doesn't lessen its achievement. Domestically, it has currently accumulated $615.280 million, and is expected to finish at $616 million by the end of next month before going on sale on DVD and Blu-ray in September. Marvel Studios took a big gamble when they decided to kick off a shared universe with 2008's Iron Man, and while there were a few stumbles along the way, it all came to a head with Marvel's The Avengers earlier this year in spectacular fashion. Of course, now that the film has been such a huge success, one the question remains. When will Earth's Mightiest Heroes return to the big screen?! For starters, Marvel Studios will need to get Robert Downey Jr. signed up for more movies (his commitment to them finishes with Iron Man 3).

Marvel Studios presents in association with Paramount Pictures Marvel’s The Avengers--the super hero team up of a lifetime, featuring iconic Marvel super heroes Iron Man, the Incredible Hulk, Thor, Captain America, Hawkeye and Black Widow. When an unexpected enemy emerges that threatens global safety and security, Nick Fury, Director of the international peacekeeping agency known as S.H.I.E.L.D., finds himself in need of a team to pull the world back from the brink of disaster. Spanning the globe, a daring recruitment effort begins.

STARRING:

Chris Evans as Steve Rogers/Captain America
Robert Downey Jr. as Tony Stark/Iron Man
Chris Hemsworth as Thor
Jeremy Renner as Clint Barton/Hawkeye
Scarlett Johansson as Natasha Ramanoff/Black Widow
Mark Ruffalo as Bruce Banner/Hulk
Samuel L. Jackson as Nick Fury
Clark Gregg as Agent Coulson
Cobie Smulders as Maria Hill
Tom Hiddleston as Loki

Boyle360 - 7/25/2012, 4:59 PM
^ I agree, that's awesome!
I'm starting to think RDJ is starting to get a little too old to play Tony Stark. He was starting to show his age in The Avengers, and by Iron Man 3 he'll be pushing it. Avengers 2 will have a 50 something year old Tony Stark, and come on that's just going to look plain wrong.
Not that I don't ADORE him as Tony Stark, I just think it's almost time for someone else to take over. Does anyone else agree?
laughterman26 - 7/25/2012, 5:01 PM

from my observation the marvel bullies have been way worse and mean and childish and silly than the dc bullies. they are on all sides tho. usually the marvel bullies like to forget that they do as much(if not more)crap than the dc bullies.

i read in a wizard some years ago that the folk who work at marvel don't like and don't use the term "616 universe". the said they have two universes, the marvel universe and the ultimate universe.

also, i believe alan moore had some doing with naming the "616 universe"
DrDoom - 7/25/2012, 5:27 PM
$616 million?

OK, now that's just destiny.
LoudNoises - 7/25/2012, 5:27 PM
Can't wait until there is a new war between 2 new movies to argue over. Hobbit vs. Skyfall anyone? Jacksonites vs. 007ites? ;)

Congrats Avengers. You earned it!
logicoflame - 7/25/2012, 5:28 PM
goddd stop the marvel vs dc. good movies all around
DragonofDarknessXIII - 7/25/2012, 5:29 PM
Go Avengers, you win this year.
LAXtremest - 7/25/2012, 5:30 PM
I just saw this for a 7th time Sunday and I still get the same feeling watching it and leaving the theater. This has become my new favorite movie. Great movie, it deserves all it's getting.
Wildaniel - 7/25/2012, 5:33 PM
Why cant we all love both The Avengers and Dark Knight Rises?

But TDKR was much better then The Avengers. The stupid comedy killed The Avengers for me.
JoeMomma29 - 7/25/2012, 5:34 PM
Great point Logicoflame I wish this rival would end! It feels like the Hatfields and McCoys!
RamonSuarez - 7/25/2012, 5:35 PM
@NIRSINGHA

Its clear the TDKR ripped off Avengers and that Avenegers ripped off of Independence Day. LOL.

BreakingBad - 7/25/2012, 5:35 PM
We need a non bias party to decide who is worse, Nolanites or Marvel turds.

From my perspective, Marvel turds are way worse posting pictures and shit.
DragonofDarknessXIII - 7/25/2012, 5:36 PM
I liked TDKR a little bit better because it drew me in more emotionally but Avengers is badass.
LoudNoises - 7/25/2012, 5:36 PM
@Maximus101

Please don't throw more fuel on the fire. Let's just consider this fight officially over. People who like the Avengers will continue to think they won and people who like TDKR will continue to think they won. Neither side is going to budge. It's over. So let's move on.

So are you a Hobbit guy or a Skyfall guy? :p
RamonSuarez - 7/25/2012, 5:37 PM
LOL @ citing IMDB as an authority. Anyone knows that site is 1.) purely based upon fanboy voting and 2.) has a score that generally goes down after the first few weeks of release.
UrbanKnight - 7/25/2012, 5:38 PM
The avengers also ripped off TDK. lol

Sweet, spread sum of the wealth around. jk
RamonSuarez - 7/25/2012, 5:39 PM
Avengers will outdraw TDKR and it has already garnered more critical acclaim. Its clear to rational people which film ruled 2012.

DragonofDarknessXIII - 7/25/2012, 5:39 PM
Next year its gonna be Man of Steel vs. Iron Man 3 and Thor: The Dark World......hmmm They ripped off the name from the The Dark Knight lol.
Scooby - 7/25/2012, 5:41 PM
Marvel vs. DC
AmazingAvenger3 - 7/25/2012, 5:41 PM
Best CBM of the year! Also the best CBM EVER!
DragonofDarknessXIII - 7/25/2012, 5:41 PM
2008: The Dark Knight vs. Iron Man = TDK wins

2012: The Dark Knight Rises vs. The Avengers = Avengers win

2015: Justice League vs. Avengers 2 = JL win. (If it is true)
LoudNoises - 7/25/2012, 5:42 PM
Ooooo, Man of Steel vs Thor: The Dark World, interesting. Thoughts anyone?
LoudLon - 7/25/2012, 5:42 PM
Good or bad, I'm just glad CBMs continue to perform well at the box office. The longer they make money, the more them we'll get.

C'mon, Savage Dragon movie... *fingers crossed*
CaptainObvious - 7/25/2012, 5:42 PM
Coming to the comments section of articles like these makes me want to vomit just by reading them.
Jollem - 7/25/2012, 5:43 PM
@Vegakingblade - i have never used the term "nolanite" or "marvelite" unless it was in a mocking manner. i like comics. i love drawings and stories and sketches. i have never claimed an allegiance to one side.

i'm gonna go with what i said before: it's on both sides.

it's fun silliness i suppose :)
DragonofDarknessXIII - 7/25/2012, 5:44 PM
@CaptainObvious tell me about it, I just can't wait til next year where hopefully the wars will be less heated.
RamonSuarez - 7/25/2012, 5:44 PM
@Vegakingblade

So true, but they have to cover their asses after talking a lot of shit about a movie that didn't deliver anywhere near as much as promised.
DragonofDarknessXIII - 7/25/2012, 5:46 PM
@Vegakingblade You might never know, We might have WW in 2014 or so.
Godzillafart - 7/25/2012, 5:46 PM
Best movie made the most money.
DragonofDarknessXIII - 7/25/2012, 5:47 PM
A World's Finest movie could be even better. Two of the biggest icons in comics together
RamonSuarez - 7/25/2012, 5:48 PM
I'll believe WB can deliver a JLA movie when they show they can deliver a movie without Nolan's fingerprints on it. As is, we have yet to see much of the Man of Steel film.
DragonofDarknessXIII - 7/25/2012, 5:51 PM
DC needs its own studio for one, and Goyer can be the Kevin Fiege of DC.
xNightwingx - 7/25/2012, 5:51 PM
Every single person involved in this argument is a moron.
