Deadline reports that director John M. Chu has entered talks to direct a live action adaptation of Masters Of The Universe for Sony Pictures and Escape Artists. He is currently hard at work on the 3D conversion of his latest picture, G.I. Joe: Retaliation. That film was originally set to be released last month before being pushed back to March 29th, 2013. The site reports that it will revolve around, "He-Man, a prince who transforms into a warrior and becomes the last hope for a magical world that has been ravaged by the sinister Skeletor." Alex Litvak (The Three Musketeers) and Mike Finch (Exclusively Yours penned the script under the title Grayskull, although Mattel - the toy company who own the brand that the film will be based on - are now said to be revising it.

The only thing I don't like is Three Musketeers writer... that new movie was one of the worst big budget films I have ever seen, and I LOVE a lot of movies that most people don't lol.
DoomXfactor - 7/30/2012, 4:57 PM

@Intruder, I am with you the 1987 one is a classic.
AlexDeLarge87 - 7/30/2012, 5:12 PM
Intruder@ Not the only one.

I loved to watch the film as kid even it had its flaws. Langella was so badass as Skeletor.
BruceWayneNewton - 7/30/2012, 5:12 PM
I loved the 80s movie. I don't think a He-Man origin tale is going to be that exciting though
CaptainObvious - 7/30/2012, 5:14 PM
Is anybody going to make a gay joke?
SuperFrost - 7/30/2012, 5:15 PM
@Intruder - Your not the only one. for its time it was great. I was always hoping for a sequel, but it never came..... It never came!

@grif cool story grif, needs more Channing Tatum and shit, but cool story.
DangerKiD - 7/30/2012, 5:39 PM
Studios have been developing movies from 80's cartoons for some time: Transformers, G.I. Joe, Thundercats, and now Masters of the Universe. Sony is in talks with John Chu to direct because of his work on G.I. Joe Retaliation not the Step-Up movies. He-Man is similar to G.I. Joe if you include movies, cartoons, action figures, and comic books so Masters of the Universe is just another franchise in need for a reboot which I am 100% looking forward to it in the near future.
StarSpangledBruce - 7/30/2012, 5:39 PM
NO!

DoomXfactor - 7/30/2012, 5:46 PM
@Intruder- Masters of the Universe was awesome.Frank Langella as Skeletor was [frick]ing sick
shadearts - 7/30/2012, 5:47 PM
Guess what if you think He-man is gay GTFO and go have orgasms about TDKR cause I won't to see this done and some right
CapFan79 - 7/30/2012, 5:47 PM
I'd love a he-man movie. Don't know about Chu till I see GI Joe 2.....
RaleighAntrobus - 7/30/2012, 5:49 PM
He-Man is a corny character and concept, period. But if people will pay to see it then... whatever.

I think they'd be better off with ThunderCats or SilverHawks.
ckal - 7/30/2012, 6:03 PM
cherry bomb-

Haha, nothing about Armie Hammer's hair is blonde at all.

I have blonde hair, trust me I know.

HEYYYYY!!!!!!! quit all that damn hate!......why come on here if u dont want this made....it has potiential to be a great storyline trilogy if done more serious and dark...and done right!!!!.....they can make skeletor more powerful more a threat more evil and make his minions more scary and brutal ...without disrupting the origin .....and make heman powerful but make skeletors powers a match for hemans might ........take the corny elements out .....add true fear to the line and make it more serious ....it could work .....make a seperation of heman and prince adam ......it could be a good movie if done right
DarkKnight23 - 7/30/2012, 6:55 PM
I have little faith in his G.I. joe after it got pushed back. I'm not excited about this
Timerider84 - 7/30/2012, 6:57 PM
This will fail on all levels, no matter how good the script is or who they get to play He-man. I don't even think Chris Nolan as director could save this. He-man is done and over and very, very gay. We would rather have Deadpool, then a stupidly gay movie about this guy!!
mgeoff88 - 7/30/2012, 7:21 PM
From the trailers of G.I. Joe: Retaliation, it looks like he's someone who's big on the source material.

It would be nice to see the actual movie though. I can't believe he pushed it back.

I wouldn't mind seeing a live-action Thundercats movie someday.

@grif Dam... So there's no hope for this movie then. :P
hope420 - 7/30/2012, 7:53 PM
I'll wait to see his GI Joe before I hate or praise this news. Gonna be a long wait.:/
SuspenseSmith - 7/30/2012, 8:29 PM

as long as He-Man doesn't look gay, and skully boy has a better voice, and He-Man's cheesy ass name is changed, and if he doesn't have that retarded sidekick, and if He-Man has a beard and actual clothes, and if it's not cheesy with that stupid battle cry...

so pretty much if it's not even recognizable as the cheesiest piece of shit I've ever watched when I was a kid, then fine do the movie.

"BRING IN MICHAEL BAY!"

That'll make sure the movie is 0% faithful to the show, right?
