Brief Rundown Of THE AMAZING SPIDER-MAN Blu-Ray Special Features Revealed

• Deleted Scenes and Alternate Takes

• Audio Commentaries with Cast and Crew

• The Oscorp Archives – Art and Promotional Materials Gallery

• Screen Tests

• Stunt Rehearsals

• Both 3D & 2D versions of the film

• Interactive 3D Film School with Director Marc Webb

• Collectible Amazing Spider-Man Figurine

• Collectible Lizard Figurine

Not a bad selection of special features there, although it's worth bearing in mind that these are subject to change, and probably just a very tentative list as of right now (after all, the film hasn't even been in theatres for a month). With any luck, those deleted scenes and alternate takes will deliver "The Untold Story" which we were promised, but didn't make it into the film. There has been speculation that Sony Pictures won't release the scene which features the Lizard murdering Doctor Ratha - as pieced together from numerous stills and snippets of footage from the trailers and TV spots - but we'll just have to wait and see. Perhaps the audio commentaries will shed some light on why so many cuts were made? Regardless, it was a solid reboot, although whether or not Marc Webb will (hopefully) return to helm the sequel is unknown. Be sure to check out my interview with Marc Webb HERE and click HERE to read my 4* review of The Amazing Spider-Man.

The Amazing Spider-Man is the story of Peter Parker (Garfield), an outcast high schooler who was abandoned by his parents as a boy, leaving him to be raised by his Uncle Ben (Sheen) and Aunt May (Field). Like most teenagers, Peter is trying to figure out who he is and how he got to be the person he is today. Peter is also finding his way with his first high school crush, Gwen Stacy (Stone), and together, they struggle with love, commitment, and secrets. As Peter discovers a mysterious briefcase that belonged to his father, he begins a quest to understand his parents' disappearance - leading him directly to Oscorp and the lab of Dr Curt Connors (Ifans), his father's former partner. As Spider-Man is set on a collision course with Connors' alter-ego, The Lizard, Peter will make life-altering choices to use his powers and shape his destiny to become a hero.

STARRING:

Andrew Garfield as Peter Parker/Spider-Man
Emma Stone as Gwen Stacy
Rhys Ifans as Curt Connors/The Lizard
Martin Sheen as Uncle Ben
Sally Fields as Aunt May
Denis Leary as George Stacy

RELEASE DATE: Out Now.

Ha1frican - 8/1/2012, 6:57 PM
Does it include dvd like most BD's ?
TayDee - 8/1/2012, 6:57 PM
I would imagine that most of the deleted scenes will feature the Indian dude. I'm curious about the alternate takes though
Ha1frican - 8/1/2012, 6:57 PM
I have a feeling the directors cut with all the genetic testing stuff was ass and thats why it was taken out
novaprime - 8/1/2012, 7:00 PM
this MOVIE WAS GOOD BUT IT HAS ITS BAD PARTS AND TERRIBLE SCENES,.. I WISH PETEY WOULDNT TAKE OFF HIS MASK SO MUCH AND SHOW HIMSELF TO THE HOLE WORLD.. AND I HATED THE WAY HE FOUND OUT HE HAD HIS POWERS IN THE TRAIN.. I WISH THERE WERE MORE FIGHTING SCENES AND NO STUPID 30 SEC SCENES WITH SPIDY JUST LOOKING AND WAITING FOR THE LIZARD
Lego - 8/1/2012, 7:04 PM
People saw this piece of shit in theaters? LMAO

EmoSpidey - 8/1/2012, 7:07 PM
@TheBigBoss917 Why was the crane scene awkward? Unnecessary maybe, considering that there were buildings right there for Spidey to swing from, but awkward?
Tony93 - 8/1/2012, 7:08 PM
Totally disappointed in this film.. Once he got Spidey powers it got lame :/
Except the part when he swings with the help of construction workers
EmoSpidey - 8/1/2012, 7:09 PM
@Lego As opposed to seeing it where else?
CaptainObvious - 8/1/2012, 7:10 PM
@marvel72- Take it Ghost Rider 2 doesn't exist to you. If so, the feeling's mutual.
iJackSparrow - 8/1/2012, 7:11 PM
There's no need for an extended cut.

Newsarama's Top Ten Comic Book-Based Movies of All Time has The Amazing Spider-Man as the FOURTH film on that list, only behind Iron Man, The Avengers and the Chris Nolan Trilogy. People love this film, and the sequel will show that in spades.

One of the best CBMs and best Spider-Man film by far.

Suck it, Nolanites.
iJackSparrow - 8/1/2012, 7:14 PM
Me too. Just pre-ordered the Phase One limited edition box set and I'm getting this bad boy as well.
DarkKnight23 - 8/1/2012, 7:15 PM
Pass
iJackSparrow - 8/1/2012, 7:19 PM
@TheMarvelite

Nolanites are just pissed off that TDKR sucked and while it is indeed making more money than TASM in the North America, it's underperforming, while TASM is performing like a successful reboot in the domestic box office and as a full blown blockbuster in the foreign markets. This is unprecedented in the story of any reboot.

Movie is brilliant, and Marc Webb is coming back. DC fanboys are delusional a-holes that bad mouth every Marvel property out of jealousy, nothing new in the front.
EmoSpidey - 8/1/2012, 7:19 PM
@iJackSparrow I completely agree with you! I don't understand why some people are so down on it. Especially people that haven't even seen the movie. I like the Raimi movies (well, Spider-Man 1&2 but that goes without saying) but this movie had so much more heart and personality then Raimi's films did and much better acting as well. I would like to see a Director's Cut though. DCs are always way better than the theatrical versions.
CaptainObvious - 8/1/2012, 7:21 PM
@TheMarvelite- Just because someone is a Spidey fan, doesn't mean they have to like everything Spidey-related. I'm a huge fan of the character, yet I hate One More Day. Does that mean I'm not a fan?
marvel72 - 8/1/2012, 7:21 PM
@ CaptainObvious

those are the big three this year, got men in black 3 as well & we've yet to see dredd.
TheSkywalkingKnight - 8/1/2012, 7:24 PM
iJackSparrow: Why are you bringing TDKR into this? Looking for an argument...
DragonofDarknessXIII - 8/1/2012, 7:27 PM
TDKR has nothing to do with this.

This needs an extended cut.
BigeBigzWells - 8/1/2012, 7:29 PM
Day 1 BUY FOR ME!
xXkryptoniteXx - 8/1/2012, 7:29 PM
I'm buying it cause I haven't watched it lol
EmoSpidey - 8/1/2012, 7:29 PM
@CaptainObvious Yeah. One More Day should have been pretty disappointing for any Spidey fan. The idea was to get Spider-Man back to his roots and look where he's at now: living large, working for a fancy, schmancy lab, and Aunt May is rarely even seen in the stories anymore. Where are the Average Joe problems that Peter Parker used to have?
BlackAmerica - 8/1/2012, 7:31 PM
@ijacksparrow I don't believe Nolanites are disappointed with TDKR. Personally it is my new favorite movie. I'm not a Nolanite either. TASM was a very good film. I enjoyed it very much. My third favorite movie of the year. The Avenger my second favorite. if anything I'm a marvelite as I only read marvel comics, and besides Nolans batman trilogy I have really only enjoyed marvel comic films. DC has disappointed me so far except that trilogy.
iJackSparrow - 8/1/2012, 7:32 PM
Marc Webb's The Amazing Spider-Man (2012) makes the 4th place of Newsarama's Best Comic Book-Based Films of ALL TIME. But what made me very happy was what they had to say about the film, and I couldn't agree more with:

AMAZING SPIDER-MAN (2012)

Studio: Sony. Director: Marc Webb. Stars: Andrew Garfield, Emma Stone

What Makes It Great:

When it originally debuted on this list, it knocked Sam Raimi's "Spider-Man 2" out of the Top 10 entirely. That may have seemed a little harsh at the time, but Raimi's "Spider-Mans" already weren't aging very well and Marc Webb's "Amazing Spider-Man" just accelerated the process to critical mass.

"Amazing" is superior to the original three Spidey features in every conceivable way - better lead actors, better supporting actors, better action and special effects, and yes, better origin story.

Fans complaining that 10 years was too soon to retell the origin might have to reevaluate when they realize "Amazing" tells a much better origin story. In fact, we here at Newsarama think "Amazing" tells the best Spider-Man origin story ever, and yes, we're including the comic books too [ducks, runs for cover.]

The retelling/remixing of origins is a tried and true comic book tradition. Not sure why "Amazing" is any different.

"Amazing Spider-Man" is cool, contemporary, and accessible. It gives comic book fans exactly what they want (the best-realized Spider-Man action yet, a path to more Spidey films in the future) and probably what they didn't know they needed (Garfield and Stone frankly mop the floor with Maguire and Dunst).

Stand-Out Scene:

Anything with Garfield and Stone together. Their chemistry is evident and Stone continues to emerge as one of the brightest, most dynamic and appealing young stars of her generation.

I wholeheartedly agree with this, and it's funny because I've said this before on different forum boards: The Amazing Spider-Man's origin story is better than any other origin story that Spider-Man ever had - comics, film or any other media-, and that's one of the film's greatest feats to me as a Spider-Man fan.
Bark4Soul - 8/1/2012, 7:34 PM
I dont know why there are not more people like me who just love CBM's in general, why do half these idiots have to divide it to Marvel vs DC? DC fans get one movie every 4 years, Marvel gets like 2 a year or so. I loved this movie, when someone can not provide intellectual reasons why it failed I write them off as jealous idiots. I'll be buying this asap
ATrueHero1987 - 8/1/2012, 7:41 PM
I liked this movie....but I expected it to be much better. I will get this one it comes out on Blu Ray!

SN: Yes, let's all forget that GR:SOV ever got released!lol
BlackAmerica - 8/1/2012, 7:42 PM
Favorite comic book movie list time (for no reason)
TDKR
Avengers
Iron Man
Batman Begins
Amazing Spider-man
TDK
Thor
Incredible Hulk
Iron Man 2 (effin loved this film back off!)
Captain America
And those are pretty much all ive liked. I respect but dont care for the supermans. didn't like GL, or the old Spiderman trilogy, the men's have left me disappointed. ff, ghost rider, daredevil just bad. Punisher and blade were decent. have to say comic book movies have gotten much better.
iJackSparrow - 8/1/2012, 7:44 PM
@TheIrishAvenger

I'm not looking for an argument. It's clear that those that are badmouthing this film to no end are the same ones trying to make a Marvel vs. DC war and taking all the fun out of these films. You are also a part of that, feeding this stupid wars. We are all on the same side here, but since we are all free to make these stupid arguments, I also want a TDKR extended cut. One where the movie doesn't suck monkey balls would be great.
AutobotCommander84 - 8/1/2012, 7:46 PM
A lot of people complain about reboots but won't bother to say shit about the billion other remakes and re-imaginings of old literature like Robin Hood and Snow White.
AutobotCommander84 - 8/1/2012, 7:48 PM
@MarvelWeiner One could only hope...lol
norseman79 - 8/1/2012, 7:50 PM
The best spider-man movie. Bring on the sequel.
CaptainObvious - 8/1/2012, 7:52 PM
@SpiderJosh- The problem I have with OMD (Besides everything else wrong with it) is that this was the perfect opportunity to kill of Aunt May. Yes, she's a great character and a moral guide for Peter, but considering the fact that she doesn't do anything anymore in the comics, it probably would have been better to send her off. Plus, it would've developed Peter into a better character. I know alot of fans don't want to hear this, but here it is: Peter Parker is a selfish character.

He is an adult, but still has the midset of a teenager. He never learns from his mistakes, which is a good reason loved ones die all the time. Everytime something tragic happens, he doesn't try to better himself or just whines about how terrible his life is. That's where the selfish part comes in.

When Aunt May was dying and Mary Jane suggested that they let her go, Peter kept bringing up that he would never be able to forgive himself and he would be broken. Never once in this story does he think about what anything would mean for his own WIFE. He was only thinking for himself when he made the deal. Instead of choosing the woman who has vowed to spend the rest of her life with him, he chooses his mother-figure, who is probably going to die in a few years, anyway.

I wanted Peter to mature and change for the better if May died. In fact, if Peter was truly mature, he would've let Tony Stark take him to the authorities on the account that Aunt May receives proper medical care. But no, Marvel insists that Spidey be taken back to square one and never actuall grow up. Which is hypocritical since Peter is supposed to relate to his readers. What about the readers who grow up, graduate college, get a job, get married, and have kids? Are they supposed to be left in the dust while Spidey stays an adult with a teenage mind for another 50 years instead of an adult with an adult mind?

The point of OMD is that Peter will always remain a momma's boy. He will always put himself over his spouse. And it is a slap in the face of the idea that even the geek can get the girl.

Sorry for that rant.
iJackSparrow - 8/1/2012, 7:57 PM
Nobody cares if it's a reboot or not. If that was true, DC fanboys wouldn't get their panties wet with Man of Steel, as they are clearly getting. Don't get me wrong, I'm excited for Man of Steel as well, but DC fanboys - especially the Nolanites - make this become an arms race. It's either Batman and Superman or Spider-Man and The Avengers.

Which is sad, and something that could lead to the end of the comic book movies as we know. Competition is fine when it's healthy, not when it's turned into a flame war. If we can't be happy for these movies - especially those with have an INSANE amount of quality like this one - the chances of the Comic Book Movies Golden Age to end get bigger.

Look, I think that TDKR is godawful, self-pretentious, overplotted with more eyerolling moments and plotholes that I could bother to count. I hate it. But I don't go around trashing the film incessantly. That's what Nolanites do with EVERY. SINGLE. MOVIE. RELEASED. that isn't somehow involved with "Nolan's vision". Give me a [frick]ing BREAK.
Sabconth - 8/1/2012, 7:58 PM
@iJackSparrow

Oh wow, newsarama chose The Dark Knight trilogy as the current best comic book movies? Cool.

I've still to see TASM.

thewolfx - 8/1/2012, 8:02 PM
i hope theirs a deleted scene were he finds a better suit
DragonofDarknessXIII - 8/1/2012, 8:03 PM
Is there anyway I can get the deleted scenes to play with the movie?
iJackSparrow - 8/1/2012, 8:03 PM
@Sabconth

My Top 10 All Time Rank of CBMs:

1. The Avengers
2. The Amazing Spider-Man
3. Batman Begins
4. Iron Man
5. Spider-Man 2
6. Superman: The Movie
7. The Dark Knight
8. Watchmen
9. Scott Pilgrim
10. V For Vendetta

Honorable Mentions: X2: X-Men United, Superman II and Sin City.

The surprising movie on my list is TDK, new found respect after having watched it again after having seen it TDKR.
SteelFighter - 8/1/2012, 8:07 PM
no deleted scenes? mmmm
ultimatecomic69 - 8/1/2012, 8:09 PM
the dark knight rises sucked
iJackSparrow - 8/1/2012, 8:11 PM
@Chloefornication

SURE. You have a Spider-Man avatar = You're a Spider-Man fan.

Nolanites think that people are stupid. :D
Ha1frican - 8/1/2012, 8:12 PM
@TheMarvelite how is blu-ray not better in every way? Only people who say that are people who cant afford it
Spidey31 - 8/1/2012, 8:14 PM
Wow just cause of RT makes it a fact? It's a movie and you can form your own opinion, there is no fact. Marvelites AND nolanites bash this film, if it's not made by marvel studios it's crap. That's their logic lol. Half the people that say it sucks really bad, I bet they haven't even seen it or went in wanting to hate it. I can see some of the disappointment in the villian and the fact that it's another orgin. But honestly this spiderman film was more dimensional and had more story and better reasoning as to why he becomes spiderman. It's. Rating on RT is shallow and a lot of the critcs that disliked it don't even no Spiderman is based off of matrieal. They just don't like the fact that it had the same plot beats of the orginal, they don't explain the technical issues the acting issues. The only legitimate critques are it's pacing, and the villian that's all I heard that means anything.
Sabconth - 8/1/2012, 8:19 PM
@IJackSparrow

Nice list.

My favorite is TDK trilogy (my order being TDKR > TDK > BB) followed by Iron Man, Sin City and The Avengers.

Jollem - 8/1/2012, 8:21 PM
i saw this six times
i would love an extended/director's cut
if not, deleted scenes are good enough for me

@novaprime - i'd like to give you my thoughts on your thoughts if i may

"I WISH PETEY WOULDNT TAKE OFF HIS MASK SO MUCH AND SHOW HIMSELF TO THE HOLE WORLD"

i did not mind this really because, as it turns out, nobody of importance ended up really knowing who he is and are gonna do anything 'bout it. no, there was no potential antagonist who figured out spidey's secret identity by him taking off his mask. didja really think they would write something like that into the script for themselves? it's not like peter did something that he's really never done before in the comics like tell the "whole world" who he is. something that never really has been a part of his character.(rdjr.'s tony stark, i'm looking at you :)

"AND I HATED THE WAY HE FOUND OUT HE HAD HIS POWERS IN THE TRAIN"

i enjoyed that bit. for the very first time peter discovers that something is very messed up with him is involving him getting into a scuffle right away? hell yeah. that's kinda crazy and new.

"I WISH THERE WERE MORE FIGHTING SCENES"

i was pleased. there were many action and fight scenes.

"AND NO STUPID 30 SEC SCENES WITH SPIDY JUST LOOKING AND WAITING FOR THE LIZARD"

as spidey can "do whatever a spider can", he was doing what a spider does. if 30 seconds without action is unbearable nowadays, i think i'm in trouble :)

i think we went through a "golden age" of cbms. i would say that we would be in the "silver age" of cbms right now. i'm going to propose with blade 1 as the starting out point?
Spidey31 - 8/1/2012, 8:23 PM
The people that bash this film are the people that bashed it from day:1 and people that call TDKR the best moie of all time. This movie was shot dead the day it was announced its fighting an uphill battle against people who support a fandom and people that wanna hate becasue it was rebooted too soon. I've seen people that were diss appointed by the movie sure I can see why. But when I see some one say " this movie was so bad" it comes off snobbish and I can already tell they hated it from the get go and are biased. Nomis hails the TDKR as the greatest movie of all time lol it's not even as good as BB stop kidding yourself. Go back to praising the dark knight raises your wasting your time on this thread, if you didn't like it why comment right?
RidiculousFanBoyDemands - 8/1/2012, 8:28 PM
I did not like The Amazing Spider-man. It was okay, but it didn't give me anything new aside from tone. I do think the sequels have great potential. I didn't think there would be much when it came to deleted scenes though, I thought Webb said there were only about four or so that were shot.
