UK Edition Of THE AVENGERS DVD/Blu-Ray Won't Feature Joss Whedon's Commentary

Well, this is extremely disappointing. The UK (and presumably the rest of Europe) will not be getting Joss Whedon's commentary on the upcoming DVD and Blu-ray release of Marvel's The Avengers/Avengers Assemble. As you can see from the Tweets below, the ever reliable folks over at Empire Magazine confirmed the news earlier today.

If this is the price that those of us on this side of the pond have to pay for getting the DVD and Blu-ray a measly eight days sooner, I think most fans would agree that a wait of just an extra week or so would have been perfectly acceptable for the inclusion of such an essential extra. The excuse made by Disney just isn't good enough, and the fact that there are no plans in future to make this available to non-US residents is a pretty poor way to treat the UK fans who contributed over $80 million to its worldwide total at the box office.

Marvel Studios presents in association with Paramount Pictures Marvel’s The Avengers--the super hero team up of a lifetime, featuring iconic Marvel super heroes Iron Man, the Incredible Hulk, Thor, Captain America, Hawkeye and Black Widow. When an unexpected enemy emerges that threatens global safety and security, Nick Fury, Director of the international peacekeeping agency known as S.H.I.E.L.D., finds himself in need of a team to pull the world back from the brink of disaster. Spanning the globe, a daring recruitment effort begins.

STARRING:

Chris Evans as Steve Rogers/Captain America
Robert Downey Jr. as Tony Stark/Iron Man
Chris Hemsworth as Thor
Jeremy Renner as Clint Barton/Hawkeye
Scarlett Johansson as Natasha Ramanoff/Black Widow
Mark Ruffalo as Bruce Banner/Hulk
Samuel L. Jackson as Nick Fury
Clark Gregg as Agent Coulson
Cobie Smulders as Maria Hill
Tom Hiddleston as Loki

RELEASE DATE: September 17th, 2012 (UK) September 25th, 2012 (US)

NerdyGeek - 8/29/2012, 10:24 AM

[frick]!
jessepostal - 8/29/2012, 10:26 AM
Just region free your blu ray or DVD player, almost every brand has the capabilities, and buy the us version
Ha1frican - 8/29/2012, 10:26 AM
Mrrrrkkkaaaa fu.ck yeah!
RidiculousFanBoyDemands - 8/29/2012, 10:26 AM
That sucks. Sorry guys. However, it's not like you won't be able to find it online a few weeks after the Blu Ray release.
Ha1frican - 8/29/2012, 10:27 AM
But seriously though thats stupid. I believe most blu-ray players are region free, google whatevr model you have to find out.
jessepostal - 8/29/2012, 10:30 AM
Some are but that's not the prob, it's the pal vs NTSC that has to be converted, you have to unlock your player and it'll do both
SageMode - 8/29/2012, 10:30 AM
Well, everyone else got to see the movie before we (US) did. We deserve some kinda compensation. Lol
Mrcool210 - 8/29/2012, 10:31 AM
people from the UK are probably feeling like this
GoILL - 8/29/2012, 10:33 AM
This is pretty shitty for UK fans.
SuperDude001 - 8/29/2012, 10:38 AM
Honestly I would rather they delayed the release. I don't usually listen to a lot of commentaries but I love Joss Whedon and was actually looking forward to the Avengers commentary :(
CapA - 8/29/2012, 10:40 AM
I confirm. Sadly. On the french edition, there's only the gag reel, the short film, the (excellent) delete scenes, a 6 minutes (!!!) making-of and that's it... Damn !
Mrcool210 - 8/29/2012, 10:43 AM
@r1s1ng0fth3fall obvious troll is obvious

RexDartEskimoSpy - 8/29/2012, 10:49 AM
Maybe they'll make it available as an mp3 download, like RiffTrax.
StormLoganSummers - 8/29/2012, 10:51 AM
Ha! But, seriously, who watches a movie with the commentary?
Mrwriter1701 - 8/29/2012, 10:52 AM
Well...Aren't I feeling lucky for preordering the 2 disc bluray from my supplier here in Denmark, and then getting the second rate product? If this kind of crap doesn't lead to piracy, I don't know WHAT will.
Yeah, I'd hope they make it available for a legal download. Because I swear I want that commentary, and by hook or by crook I WILL get it - I pay my money and expect to get all that's advertised!
**** Disney. **** them up their stupid *sses!!!
Lionheart1 - 8/29/2012, 10:56 AM
I mean this doesn't affect me in anyway, but "Why?". Seriously, I don't understand why you would leave the what made this movie possible, OUT!!! But like I said, Doesn't affect me in any away. Sorry UK.
spidey1994 - 8/29/2012, 10:58 AM
DAMN IT!!!!!
SimyJo - 8/29/2012, 11:00 AM
Brit here;

To be honest not bothered at all. I was resigned to the fact that Disney have utterly botched the releases for Avengers - not only giving target(U.S) and Sainsburys (U.K) the 90 min documentary, but now this omission of Joss' commentary.
Disney have come off looking pretty incompetant.

Happy with just the film on blu-ray. Everything else I'll catch on the net as (to be honest) I only watch it through that content once anyway. Its only the film itself that gets multiple views for me personally.
MrChuff - 8/29/2012, 11:02 AM
So the UK Sainsbury's exclusive 90min documentary isn't an exclusive at all... It's Disney's way of shutting UK buyers who want the commentary track.

Utter ballwash.
Muli-region this mofo and phuck Disney's UK sales figures.
UrbanKnight - 8/29/2012, 11:03 AM
CsVictory LOL!

Well sorry homies. Sux 4 u commentary fans over there. I love em.
SimyJo - 8/29/2012, 11:06 AM
Yep, the 90 min documentary is exclusive to Target(U.S) and Sainsburys (U.K).

Very happy with my Pre-ordered Avengers Steelbook. When the Sainsbury's 'exclusive' version drops to £5 at Sainsburys, Play.com or Amazon, I'll get it for the documentary. No rush, no big-deal. :)
DrDoom - 8/29/2012, 11:15 AM
So dumb. The content should be uniform across all regions. I'm not in the UK, but I feel for my fellow Avengers fans from there.
brianbadonde - 8/29/2012, 11:18 AM
They're just asking people to download it instead of buying it and I may have to oblige their request
DrDoom - 8/29/2012, 11:25 AM
@fettastic

You are correct. If they can "download" the latest advertisements onto your Blu-Ray discs, then there is no excuse for not being able to upload this commentary on launch day.
Ha1frican - 8/29/2012, 11:35 AM
I watch commentary and all the special features on every movie. Makes the movie so much moe enjoyable when you actually see the process behind it and the enthusiam for the people making it. Plus in the case of Marvel studios films they usually drop hints towards sequels and other franchises during the commentary, like they did with mentioning Winter Soldier in the Captain America one
Orphix - 8/29/2012, 11:42 AM
There are a lot of criticism you could level at Disney - but I never thought being unprofessional would be one!!
Darantino - 8/29/2012, 11:45 AM
Hhmm, guess that it's also missing on the german edition?! At least Teabags comment cheered me up a little! ;)
LoudLon - 8/29/2012, 11:57 AM
Well, I'm in the states so no sweat off my back, but for our UK brethren I say...

lokibane2012 - 8/29/2012, 11:59 AM
@r1s1ng0fth3fall

someone ban this [foo foo]. he's obviously trying to start some sort of Marvel vs. DC crap again...
EarOne - 8/29/2012, 12:19 PM
to this i say...BLU-RAY's the worst business practice of modern day. it basically FORCES us the consumers who're content with our current regular dvd players to convert to get THE most complete version of a movie on dvd.

they should keep our options open. for those who wants a lil better pic quality can go by blu-ray, but us, who're concerned more bout the bonus features included than a what the resolution is can still get ALL the bonus on the regular dvds.
connorblaze - 8/29/2012, 12:22 PM
I'm in Australia and this came out days ago, bought the blu ray the moment I could. We don't get the commentary either, which I'm really pissed about. Joss does the funniest and best commentaries in the biz. After watching Item 47 weeks ago on youtube, and there only being 12 minutes of deleted scenes and that 5 minute 'visual journey' thing, which sucks, I'm really disappointed. This should be LOADED with extras, interviews etc. At least a 'making of'. Good points however are the sound and visuals on the blu ray are up there with avatar (shit movie, good looking) and theres no letterboxing, its full screen glory, which looks phenomenal. Oh and some of the deleted scenes theyve released are only half of the actual scenes. the banner and security guard scene gets better and goes longer than the bit they released online, ends with banner getting the security guys bike and really explains why hulk has control in new york. what happened to the 45 minutes of cut footage joss said would be released? still missing cap shield throw in the alley and widow with the explosion behind her lookin all badass from the trailers. man i wish there was more of the actual avengers. movie needed so much more thor.
RamonSuarez - 8/29/2012, 12:26 PM
USA USA USA!
goldenavenger77 - 8/29/2012, 12:29 PM
I'm strangely comfortable with it.
SimyJo - 8/29/2012, 12:47 PM
@RamonSuarez;

Psst; Whats the point of chanting that?.
You are not actually doing your countrymen any favours by chanting like that in this in an article about another country's and their customer's misfortune with the Blu-ray.
I'm pretty sure Americans have (especially here among fellow CBM'ers) more empathy and class than that.
BigDamnHero - 8/29/2012, 12:57 PM
GODDAMNIT! I love Joss's commentary on my Firefly and Serenity Blu-Rays...
Ceejay - 8/29/2012, 1:13 PM
Once again it's gonna be a download for that too. When they fragment editions like this all it leads to is more business for the pirate market so they only have themselves to blame.

Didn't want the stupid "Avengers Assemble" title on my blu ray anyway. They should have given us a reverse sleeve with just "Avengers" on it as a double option.
SimyJo - 8/29/2012, 1:15 PM
@earzmundo;
"david beckam must be shittin his pants"

...and running them out as a new line in his H&M range?.

@Bomberman;
We understand all but your most extreme regional accents. Mostly It just sounds like you are speaking in slow-mo that all. ;)

...and pretty sure no-one has said "cheerio" here since 1957. ^^
marvel72 - 8/29/2012, 1:29 PM
guys i brought a panasonic dmp-bd77/87 multi-zone a+b+c blu-ray player which also plays dvd regions 012345678 off amazon.uk £199.99.

quite cheap if you can afford it.
RamonSuarez - 8/29/2012, 1:49 PM
@SimyJo

I have two points.

1.) Is that its awesome to live in America.

2.) Is that you should grow a sense of humor.
