300 Sequel Gets A New Title

300: Battle of Artemisia? Nope. The news has just broken that Warner Bros. have decided to rename Noam Murro's sequel to Zack Snyder's 2006 hit based on the Frank Miller comic book. Read on to find out what the new title of the movie is!

With Zack Snyder currently hard at work on the post production of Man of Steel, the sequel to 300 (originally believed to be called 300: Battle of Artemisia) will instead be directed by Noam Murro (Smart People), a fairly unconventional choice. The cast has been filling out nicely over the past few months, with Rodrigo Santoro returning as Xerxes and Eva Green set to play Artemisia. The film wil apparently serve as both a prequel AND sequel to 300, but there’s not an awful lot of details currently available about either the plot or tone we should expect. However, we now have one more detail - not that it sheds an awful lot of light on anything important - and that is a brand new title for the sequel.

Actually, really appropriate in historical terms. It doesn't sound too good, though. The Battle of Artemisia is just as good and epic as the 300 one...I just hope this works out.
MutantEquality - 9/12/2012, 4:49 PM
If its half as good as the first one it'll be a good watch.
Hellsboy - 9/12/2012, 4:49 PM

InfiniteMonkey - 9/12/2012, 4:49 PM
I seriously think this isn't going to get a "Rise" out of the audience...>_>
mctrinket - 9/12/2012, 4:51 PM
Can they stop putting "Rise" in movie titles please? Enough already.
SpaceRobot - 9/12/2012, 4:54 PM
Original ... Rise hasn't been used in a movie title in what, like 2 months ?
OdinsBeard - 9/12/2012, 4:55 PM
BREAKING NEWS: Every movie from now will have "Rise" or "dark" in the title.
TayDee - 9/12/2012, 4:57 PM
Most people can't even name ten movies off the top of their heads with the word rise in it
TheDesertGorilla - 9/12/2012, 4:59 PM
Ooooh! Fancy!
TheGambitFreakIsBatmanOfCBM - 9/12/2012, 5:07 PM

foulketheyankees - 9/12/2012, 5:11 PM

Fantastic Four: RISE of the Silver Surfer
RISE of the Planet of the Apes
The Dark Knight RISES
GI Joe: RISE of Cobra

Supes17 - 9/12/2012, 5:18 PM
At least most people will be able to pronounce the title correctly now...
blite32 - 9/12/2012, 5:18 PM
The word Rise was an important part of TDKR but for other movies it's used pretty unoriginally
VinzClortho - 9/12/2012, 5:21 PM
I'll give them an empire to rise about!
kevshardlemonade - 9/12/2012, 5:22 PM
Hannibal Rising,
Rise of the planet of the apes,
Rise of the Machines,
Rise of the silver surfer,
Rise of Cobra,
Rise of the lycans,
Seeker: The Dark is Rising,
Rise of Taj (Van Wilder),
Vallhalla Rises

The only one that used Rise appropriately was The Dark Knight Rises. But still enough with the "Rises" or Rising".
THEDARKKNIGHT1939 - 9/12/2012, 5:23 PM
Its better than the other title
Ranger14 - 9/12/2012, 5:27 PM
Well...that's less than impressive for a title.
nowtheresaBATman - 9/12/2012, 5:29 PM
Eva Green makes me Rise

HarrisonBergeron - 9/12/2012, 5:47 PM
Can one of you Nolan fanboys please explain how TDKR is the only movie to have used "rise" correctly?

Of the movies listed so far it actually seems the least appropriate.
DEADP0000L - 9/12/2012, 5:49 PM
lol really we all know they are star wars fans
diomc - 9/12/2012, 5:50 PM
Rodrigo Santoro as Doctor Strange

thewonderer - 9/12/2012, 6:54 PM
@Harrison

The Batman Symbol rises from the ashes and becomes the inspiration the people of Gotham need to protect their own city.

TDKR is all about rising, both metaphorically and actually (from the pit)

I wonder if this empire has a flying planet. Its going to suck when they strike back.
NostalgicYouth - 9/12/2012, 9:32 PM

AlexDeLarge87 - 9/12/2012, 11:03 PM

Nubase - 9/13/2012, 1:50 AM
This movie will show the great sea battle l think, when xerses and his great army travelled to sparta by boat they fought a great sea battle on the way, xerses won but lost a huge amount of men in the process, there was a scene in 300 when you see xerses ships damaged while they arrive on shore with leonidas looking on in approval as he knows that xerses army in numbers have declined.
Nubase - 9/13/2012, 1:54 AM
Here the full breakdown of the battle:

Approaching Artemisium towards the end of summer, the Persian navy was caught in a gale off the coast of Magnesia and lost around a third of their 1200 ships. After arriving at Artemisium, the Persians sent a detachment of 200 ships around the coast of Euboea in an attempt to trap the Greeks, but these were caught in another storm and shipwrecked. The main action of the battle took place after two days of smaller engagements. The two sides fought all day, with roughly equal losses; however the smaller Allied fleet could not afford the losses.
After the engagement, the Allies received news of the defeat of the Allied army at Thermopylae. Since their strategy required both Thermopylae and Artemisium to be held, and given their losses, the Allies decided to withdraw to Salamis. The Persians overran Boeotia and captured the now-evacuated Athens. However, seeking a decisive victory over the Allied fleet, the Persians were later defeated at the Battle of Salamis in late 480 BC. Fearing being trapped in Europe, Xerxes withdrew with much of his army to Asia, leaving Mardonius to complete the conquest of Greece. The following year, however, saw an Allied army decisively defeat the Persians at the Battle of Plataea, thereby ending the Persian invasion.

or in the words of Grif

shit movie
lokibane2012 - 9/13/2012, 12:03 PM
I'm not sure how to feel about this film considering it won't have Zack Snyder helming it. That guy was the main reason the first film was so entertaining.
JULEZ13 - 9/13/2012, 8:45 PM
This movie is a sequel AND prequel?!? This is sounding like one big ol' mess!

But I like the title change. Mainly cuz I like the word empire.... lol

I hope this film does good. I really want it to, but I don't know. This thing seems like its been in development hell forever.
phenomenon - 10/20/2012, 1:33 PM
