Chris Evans On Why The "Man Out Of Time" Scene Was Cut From THE AVENGERS

Chris Evans comments on both the success of Marvel's The Avengers and why he believes it was the right choice to cut out the "Man Out Of Time" scene from the superhero ensemble. The actor also goes on to discuss his gruelling training schedule for Captain America: The Winter Solider.

"[The] third biggest of all time? You never think that much," Chris Evans told HitFix at the Toronto Film Festival earlier this week when asked to share to his thoughts on the box office success of Marvel's The Avengers. Talk then turned to the scene (which leaked online not too long ago) featuring Steve Rogers discovering that Peggy Carter is still alive and that the Howling Commandos have all died in the decades which have passed since WWII.

"It was a good piece of the movie, but I think it didn't make it because that's for 'Captain America 2'. I think when you cut the whole movie together I think Joss said, 'That's a different story. That's Cap's story.' So, I guess it's nice that it came out that it shows a little bit richer character for Cap, but by the same token a lot of that stuff that's for another movie. So, hopefully we can kind of still tell that story in a different way for 'Cap 2.'"

Revealing that he has yet to even speak to directors Anthony and Joe Russo, the actor talked in detail about the amount of training he will now have to go through as filming of Captain America: The Winter Soldier draws near. With Sebastian Stan set to return as 'The Winter Soldier' and Anthony Mackie signed up to play 'The Falcon', it's no surprise that Evans will have to be at peak physical fitness to bring Cap back to the big screen.

"I think the next Captain America is in March. I probably won't do anything in-between. I'd probably like a little bit of down time. I have to get into shape for that and I like to take a couple of months to train. It's gonna be at least two months of training. I am not looking forward to it. I mean, I like going to the gym, but these are not gym sessions buddy. You don't even know dude. I'm puking at these gym sessions. It's two hours every day and it's brutal man. I don't do a lot of cardio because I'm not trying to lose weight, but gain weight. But, it's big weights and you're just so long. You'll be working out and you'll be, 'How long have I been here? Only 35 min? I still have another hour here.' And you just leave the gym unable to move. You just know you have to do it tomorrow. It's a chore."

I always appreciate actors who bulk up or lose weight for roles

So true, so true :]
TayDee - 9/14/2012, 6:24 PM
Especially him. He's lost/gained major weight for like 6 films in the span of a decade
Luminus - 9/14/2012, 6:24 PM
Suck it up, weakling. No pain, no gain! ;)

JordanKing - 9/14/2012, 6:25 PM
Could not be bothered doing that. A shame for Evans because not only this, he prefers doing small indie movies to boot. I'm sure he enjoys the bigger ones a little, but he should really consider things before signing contracts like that honestly.
Bane2099 - 9/14/2012, 6:27 PM
Im hoping now that we see Thor getting a bit of a costume change that the same is gonna happen to Cap's suit...I didnt hate it in The Avengers, but it wouldnt hurt to tweak it up a bit for his sequel.

Wish he could tell us wat his work out plan is, I would love to try it myself :D
TayDee - 9/14/2012, 6:28 PM
Yeah Bale doing what he does, can't be all that healthy. I hope he stops doing it so drastically
superotherside - 9/14/2012, 6:29 PM
Sad that scene didn't make it though, but I do agree save some stuff for Cap 2. :) Can't wait for that film btw!
SpoonWielder - 9/14/2012, 6:32 PM
@PantherX You make it sound like he took the role without thinking, and he's an idiot for it. When he's stated on many occasions that it was one of the hardest decisions of his life, and said no to Marvel twice before taking it.

so the hell what? cap is a big part of the avengers. he didn't have two movies beforehand. lack of cap to me was kinda like, "okay, so your're not gonna talk about anything?"

i am surprised that we in the uk got the avengers on blu-ray before you guys in america.

we've had all the marvel studios cinema releases before you well apart from captain america, but it did balance out because you got the blu-ray release a month earlier than us.

but it hasn't worked out that way with the avengers.
marvel72 - 9/14/2012, 7:02 PM
@ thecaptain

XD hahahahaha i react like that to alot of things not just blu-rays.
DrRockso - 9/14/2012, 7:02 PM
Bale does meth
LoudLon - 9/14/2012, 7:03 PM
I feel for the guy. I used to be a gym rat myself and the hardest working guys in the gym were the ones who are naturally skinny -- endomorphic body types, like Evans. Their bodies burn fat like nobody's business but it takes extreme effort to put on any real muscle mass. So for him to get as big as he was in CA:TFA, it's no wonder he's dreading what's to come.

But he did it once, he can do it again. Incidentally, folks say he was skinnier in The Avengers, but he wasn't. The costume had more and darker blue, which is thinning. But when you see him in his civies, out of the Cap costume, you can see he's still packing plenty of size. His shoulder's look like they're friggin' three feet wide!
jessepostal - 9/14/2012, 7:14 PM
I'm sure a fan cut of the avengers will be out soon with that scene incorporated. Can't wait for cap 2!!
marvel72 - 9/14/2012, 7:15 PM
@ cipher

all good things come to those who wait.
OdinsBeard - 9/14/2012, 7:17 PM
Spitting image of captain
jimpinto24 - 9/14/2012, 7:19 PM
I understand where Chris Evans is coming from. I wish Joss Whedon would have put the Man out of Time scene in The Avengers, but it is Cap's story. I'm hoping we get to see a Steve Rogers/Peggy Carter reunion in CA:TWS.
ThunderKat - 9/14/2012, 7:20 PM
It's a rough life. I'm thankful he doesn't bail as he is more Captain America than [insert name] is [insert superhero name]!
TheSensationalSpiderman - 9/14/2012, 7:21 PM
I never understood why America doesnt get these films first like Stan Lee would say 'BS we invented comics'.
kevberg - 9/14/2012, 7:33 PM
Im glad he's trying to bulk up a bit. I think he was a tad small for Avengers. ( relatively speaking of course)

Im not saying he has to be huge but he 's not as big as he was for most of CA:TFA. With a character like cap its kinda part of the character.

Those who don't own the best superhero movie of all time yet are allowed to hate me as well. :)

Worth it is a [frick]ing understatement.
Ha1frican - 9/14/2012, 7:37 PM
If he kept up even a litte in the gym it wuldnt be that hard o bulk back up but it sounds like his trainer is way overtraining him. But either way ifhe just kept up a maintenance routine he wouldnt have as hard a time but quiting in between makes it alot harder
Ha1frican - 9/14/2012, 7:39 PM
Tha being said i see wher hes coming from. To play a character he has to to get a pump for in almost every svene js to look as big as possible is pretty daunting and i commend him for it
Vapes - 9/14/2012, 7:40 PM
We appreciate your hard work, Mr. Evans.
I can't wait to see what he brings to the sequel.

Incorrect. Exactly 16 days ago.

I enjoyed Man out of Time.
Even though the blu-ray had nothing good..

Dedication.
DudeGuyMan - 9/14/2012, 7:58 PM
Chris Evans is the best. That's why he gets to wear the blue suit.
ATrueHero1987 - 9/14/2012, 8:07 PM
11 days until The Avengers 3D Blu Ray pack is mine!
caveman - 9/14/2012, 8:19 PM
GET BIG.
THEDARKKNIGHT1939 - 9/14/2012, 8:44 PM
I've had it downloaded for like a month but I am still gonna get it.
WinterSoldier24 - 9/14/2012, 8:45 PM
You guys do know I was his body-double in CA:TFA when they needed to show him extra ripped. I was too busy when they asked me to step in again for The Avengers with other things less important. But, don't worry, I'll be back for The Winter Soldier!

;P
marcvader1 - 9/14/2012, 8:47 PM
DeNiro is the king of the up and down weight gain for roles. Bale is the prince.

Idk about that. He went from the Machinist to Batman Begins in a matter of months.
