FAMILY GUY Creator Seth MacFarlane To Host The 85th Academy Awards

As speculation among comic book fans that Marvel's The Avengers and The Dark Knight Rises might just get a nod at next year's Academy Awards, the event now has a host in the form of Family Guy creator and Ted helmer Seth MacFarlane. Read on for details!

It remains to be seen whether or not any of this year's major comic book movies will be recognised at the 85th Academy Awards, but the event now has a host who should be familiar to the majority of you. Family Guy and American Dad creator Seth MacFarlane! "I was surprised. I have done a fair amount of hosting in the past but nothing of this magnitude. I was very, very pleasantly surprised," he told Deadline earlier today. "It is the Academy Awards so I think you can expect anything. It’s the Oscars so you always want a musical component and you want an injection of comedy and so I think it will be a mix of many elements. I am looking at this list of past hosts and it says Donald Duck hosted one year. It says he shared hosting duties with somebody — doesn’t say what year. I think we are gonna be just fine!"

MacFarlane found box office success earlier this year, making his big screen directorial debut with Ted; a film which has so far grossed over $434 million worldwide. So, should we expect to see the foul mouthed teddy bear make an appearance at the show? "He costs too much money. That’s a $6 millon dollar presenter. And the perks are outrageous," joked producers Craig Zadan and Neil Meron. However, it seems fair to say that Ted and perhaps even characters from MacFarlane's animated works will somehow feature into the show. Below is a video in which the host breaks the news about hosting the Oscars to his father. Will you be tuning in next year? Be sure to sound off with your thoughts in the usual place!

The Oscars often give little credit to genre films. I highly doubt Avengers will be nominated for any of the big awards but I can see Dark knight Rises getting a best picture nod
Optimus83 - 10/1/2012, 2:53 PM
¡¡¡Good Family Guy!!!
jimpinto24 - 10/1/2012, 2:57 PM

REDSTORM - 10/1/2012, 3:38 PM
Here comes a bunch of fart jokes and cutaway gags about "that one time they ____ with ____" or things being worse than "a ____ with ____". That's 90% of his humor.

@ Yoss

Sorry if I sound like a stalker but .... Chili pics?

@ Grif

I missed that avatar. Also, due to slang, your comment makes it seem like you do not watch anything. Fix that. How about, "And the Oscar goes to ... Shit!"

toco89 - 10/1/2012, 3:49 PM
Avengers I doupt will be nominated for anything, TDKR might. The academy awards are supposed to be for films with great artistic vision, not spectacles that barely carry plot.

But then again if Bradley could get a desicion win over Pacquiao after losing ten rounds to two, anything is possible.

KingG - 10/1/2012, 3:49 PM
teabag, correct.

Both of those movies don't seem to be OSCAR material. Now CBM AWARDS, now that's a whole different story.
Deschain12 - 10/1/2012, 3:50 PM
MacFarlane is great.
KingG - 10/1/2012, 3:51 PM
Matter of fact, what movies are being nominated this year, anyone have an idea?
REDSTORM - 10/1/2012, 3:55 PM
Hey Yoss, this is a bit of a silly question, but what kinds of peppers do you use? I'm an habanero addict and I've been weaning myself into naga bhut jolokia but those suckers are ridiculously hot.
THEDARKKNIGHT1939 - 10/1/2012, 4:03 PM

StormLoganSummers - 10/1/2012, 4:07 PM
Now I have a reason to watch the Oscars.
marvel72 - 10/1/2012, 4:17 PM
the dark knight rises nor the avengers will be nominated for the best picture oscar,if you think that then you're deluded.
MGS - 10/1/2012, 4:26 PM
Either or both CBM will be nominated in the technical categories, but long shots in the major ones, but I wouldn't be surprised if they one or two nods in the writing and screenplay departments but not likely to win. MacFarlene? No. Just no.
marvel72 - 10/1/2012, 4:40 PM
@ cipher

ironknight - 10/1/2012, 5:23 PM
Wow what a hack. In fact, in a "who is more of a hack" contest, he's one of the few that can give Mark Millar a run for his money.
mgeoff88 - 10/1/2012, 5:50 PM
Seth MacFarlane hosting the Academy Awards? Really? Really...?

I haven't seen Ted yet, but Family Guy isn't even funny anymore.

Like the first three seasons were good, then the show just bombed. The humor was getting worse(more tasteless and offensive) and the show became a parody of itself:

Some episode -
Peter: That reminds of the time... *random flashback*

Different episode -
Peter: Remember when... *random flashback*

Another different episode -
Peter: I was once... *random flashback*

:P
Bryanferryfan - 10/1/2012, 6:08 PM
Can't do no worse than Franco. Anyways...I'm back...Bastards are Bytches and Bytches are Bastards...right Tea! LOL sumbytches
Boogie138 - 10/1/2012, 7:02 PM
who's hosting?
TheAbomination - 10/1/2012, 7:02 PM
TDKR and the Avengers will get nominated for (and/or win) technical Oscars at best. One of them might get a best screenplay nod too. Hollywood usually don't give their big awards to summer blockbusters, no matter how well they were made. And, as tea said, there are too many Oscar bait movies coming out this fall/winter.
DrDoom - 10/1/2012, 7:02 PM
@Spidey23

How could a piece of shit movie be the best movie of the year? Especially when Avengers was the best movie of the year?
EdgyOutsider - 10/1/2012, 8:55 PM
Spidey23: For as much as I loved The Amazing Spider-Man, I don't think that it deserves to be at the academy. Would it be nice for Avengers or The Dark Knight Rises to have nomination in any catagory (especially Avegers, for me at least)? Yes, it would be nice but I don't see it happening. I use to be a fanboy who didn't know the differences between a good film and a quality film, even for comicbook films. I think you need to step away from the bong and realize the truth about TASM.
DioFoRio - 10/1/2012, 9:25 PM
awards shows are like going to the park to watch the participatory awards get passed out the the local elementary school t-ball team, when you don't have any kids or know anyone who was playing. Yeah the outfits are cute but that doesn't make me emotionally invested.
DioFoRio - 10/1/2012, 9:25 PM
now waiting to get Amber Reported
DioFoRio - 10/1/2012, 9:31 PM
no CBM deserves an Awards nod.. I can think of Graphic Novels that did...(not trade paperbacks either).
Masterkalel - 10/1/2012, 10:28 PM
Great another liberal slimeball host....
pud333 - 10/1/2012, 10:37 PM
Avengers isn't getting anything beyond technical awards. The story was way too simple, (Big evil is coming, good guys assemble, they lose faith and break up, only to reassemble and kick ass) there were no real acting standouts, etc.

TDKR might get a nod for director and best picture, not necessarily for TDKR, but for TDK trilogy as a whole, the way LOTR ROTK won all those Oscars that year.
Jefferys - 10/1/2012, 10:52 PM
@pud333, except Lord Of The Rings Trilogy didn't have a cop out ending and feature stunning visuals and brilliant chemistry between the actors all topped off with Peter Jackson directing.

Though Avengers was high box-office, no one wants to have any interest in a film that has helmed and written by a Ginger. Even if the Ginger is amazing, and brilliant, and talented. I can't remember the last time an Oscar went to a Ginger, or anything that included a Ginger. The Harry Potter series is a great example, never once did it win an Oscar.
EarOne - 10/2/2012, 12:17 AM
