MARVEL'S THE AVENGERS Breaks Records As It Tops DVD And Blu-Ray Sales Charts

Marvel's The Avengers earned over $623 million in North America when it was released back in May, so it should perhaps come as no surprise to learn that the film is now dominating DVD and Blu-ray sales! Read on for details.

According to Home Media Magazine, Joss Whedon's superhero ensemble has topped both the Nielsen VideoScan First Alert chart (which keeps track of overall disc sales), and the Blu-ray specific sales chart as well. Marvel's previous movies also benefited as THOR moved up in the charts to #8, Captain America: The First Avengers to #13, Iron Man 2 to #14, The Incredible Hulk to #19, and Iron Man to #23. All five also ended up in the top 20 list on the Blu-ray chart. 72% of sales came from Blu-ray; a record high for a film released simultaneously on that format and DVD (perhaps proof that the latter is nearing the end of its days). 23% of consumers forked out a little extra for the more expensive 3D version. Coming in at #2 was animated feature, Batman: The Dark Knight Returns - Part 1. A strong start, but Marvel's The Avengers actually sold 34 times as many copies! Ouch.

Spanning the globe, a daring recruitment effort begins.

I love how Iron Man 1 is the bottom because I'd say everyone's got it. Everyone has Iron Man 1, but it appears no one has Thor. It was a very underrated movie.
siggisuperman - 10/4/2012, 3:12 AM
I LOVE THOR !!!! My first marvel blue ray movie was Thor
CorronZenith30 - 10/4/2012, 3:13 AM

Boekelaar - 10/4/2012, 3:19 AM
@siggisuperman & @CorronZenith30 my first too :D need to pick up the first three on blu ray though. Good first MCU blu ray, loved the One Shot.

And this is awesome news for Marvel. The more money they make the better it is for the future. Even if one of their films tank they'll have made enough from this movie to justify the loss :)
teabag - 10/4/2012, 3:23 AM
Im gonna go old fashioned and say..

This news is jizz worthy

The Dark Knight Returns pt 1 deserves the number 2 spot...excellent animated movie

:)

darkmetal - 10/4/2012, 3:23 AM
@Jefferys I saw Thor and liked it but I wouldn't call it underrated at all. Of Marvels 5 phase 1 films so far, only Iron Man and Avengers were truly great with Avengers being the greatest superhero film to date.
Iron Man 2 gets a pass from some because of Downey Jr but it was nearly as bad as Wolverine or Green Lantern.
marvel72 - 10/4/2012, 3:24 AM

teabag - 10/4/2012, 3:54 AM
More Hulk takes the lead for me :)
siggisuperman - 10/4/2012, 4:07 AM
I loved all of the movies, but I am always as surprised at how much you guys liked Captain America. I thought the costume was very cool, butI really had a hard time getting over the fact that no one spoke german in the movie and there were no nazis. I mean it was very silly when they are all german in germany, speaking to other german people with not an american or englishman for miles yet they are all speaking in english ? I know it seems like nitpicking but it really put me off and so did the ending. Would have wanted a better ending for cap, maybe falling off a nuke into the ocean or something, just crashing the plane was a little stupid.

In The Avengers, russians spoke russian, people in south america were speaking some sort of south american language, it's those little details that make the movie.
TrueBeliever2 - 10/4/2012, 4:08 AM
This calls for
marvel72 - 10/4/2012, 4:12 AM
most anticipated phase 2

1st the avengers 2

2nd guardians of the galaxy

3rd thor the dark world

4th iron man 3

5th captain america the winter soldier

6th ant-man

@ teabag

whatabout ant-man
teabag - 10/4/2012, 4:18 AM
Marvel@ If i have full confirmation then Ant-Man is second ...cant wait for that one :)

Sigg@ I see your point but thats never bothered me in movies...in Raiders the Nazi's spoke english when there were no americans around but that didnt effect the quality of the movie for me :)
ckal - 10/4/2012, 4:20 AM
Is it just me or are there no actual sales numbers in this entire article?
teabag - 10/4/2012, 4:22 AM
Most of the classic WW2 movies never have the Nazi's speaking German :)
ckal - 10/4/2012, 4:22 AM
CAWS is pissing me off right now. There is absolutely no need for a love interest. I see the quality going down already.

And just make a shield movie with hawkeye black widow and ant man instead of an ant man movie.
teabag - 10/4/2012, 4:25 AM
I dont mind a love interest for Cap..hell he's been frozen for 70 yrs he needs to clean out those pipes and spray some star spangled batter before his balls grow too large to double sommersault :)
teabag - 10/4/2012, 4:29 AM
I think Cap should spread the love around actualy..he's been frozen for so long he's practicly a walking sperm donation :)
teabag - 10/4/2012, 4:30 AM
Marvel@ Yeah its got me pumped cus its the sort of scene ive imagined for the character...that and sweeping chase scenes with huge scale surroundings....visualy it should be awesome :)
hellfire - 10/4/2012, 4:38 AM
Linta - 10/4/2012, 4:39 AM
@ Tea: Cap needs refuelling bro
teabag - 10/4/2012, 4:42 AM
Kanaas@ lol well hopefully he's been catching up on 70 yrs of porn progression :)
superotherside - 10/4/2012, 4:50 AM
Awesome. Hope it continues to do so well.
marvel72 - 10/4/2012, 4:54 AM
@ teabag

it would be like visting another world but its our world just in a minature form.
Linta - 10/4/2012, 4:57 AM
Tea: lol, hope Peggy is in TWS so that they could fill up the time, as 70 yrs is so dry for Peggy.

jessepostal - 10/4/2012, 5:01 AM
@whoever said it:) the tesseract was powering the plane, no tesseract, no plane:) that's why cap downed it before it got anywhere where it would do damage:)
teabag - 10/4/2012, 5:03 AM
Marvel@ Exactly...if its done right it could be a hell of a movie ..a action scene that shoots fast between normal and minature would be worth the ticket:)

Kanass@ lol He could probably fit the shield up there by now :)
teabag - 10/4/2012, 5:11 AM
Its funny the differances in box office with CA and Thor to me

all my non geek mates saw Thor in the cinema but didnt see CA untill dvd cus they thought it would be cheesy

but they all liked CA more cus they all found Thor cheesy and said it reminded them of Flash gordon ([frick] knows how)

But i find myself agreeing that CA was the better movie

So im wondering if the misconceptions of the public will change for the Cap sequel..especialy after Avengers and we see a stronger box office for it then Thor 2
:)

@TrueBeliever2, who's that girl in the gif you posted?
BenderDickCumPatch - 10/4/2012, 5:55 AM
Nothing good
RunDTC - 10/4/2012, 6:00 AM
pre-ordered mine from Best Buy & got an awesome tin collectible case.
hellfire - 10/4/2012, 6:12 AM
I'd have to say I found CA to be a bit bland and preferred Thor. I don't know whether it was the character that wound me up or Chris's performance. I think I'll have to watch them both again this weekend and see if my opinion will change.
GoILL - 10/4/2012, 6:26 AM
Is anyone surprised by this?
