Rian Johnson's Looper proved to be a hit with fans and critics alike when it was released last week, and the writer and director is now offering a very unique incentive to get you back in the theatre this weekend. He's recorded a Director's Commentary which you can download and take to the theatre with you to listen to over the course of the film via his official Tumblr page. Below is a statement from the director and instructions on how to download it. Will you guys be giving this a try? Sound off with your thoughts in the usual place!

I recorded a commentary track to be downloaded, put on an ipod and listened to in the theater as you’re watching Looper. This is an odd thing I tried with Bloom, and have gotten a few requests for it again, so here it is. It is totally different from the commentary track that will be on the Blu/DVD, a bit more technical and detailed. Needless to say, this is NOT to be listened to on a first viewing, or before you’ve seen the film. Also, please work it so that a glowing screening is never out of your pocket during the movie.

Listen to the introduction before heading to the theater, it has instructions. And lemme know how it works.

In the futuristic action thriller Looper, time travel will be invented – but it will be illegal and only available on the black market. When the mob wants to get rid of someone, they will send their target 30 years into the past, where a "looper" – a hired gun, like Joe (Joseph Gordon-Levitt) – is waiting to mop up. Joe is getting rich and life is good… until the day the mob decides to "close the loop," sending back Joe’s future self (Bruce Willis) for assassination. The film is written and directed by Rian Johnson and also stars Emily Blunt, Paul Dano, and Jeff Daniels. Ram Bergman and James D. Stern produce.

STARRING:

Bruce Willis as Joseph Simmons
Joseph Gordon-Levitt as Joseph Simmons
Emily Blunt as Sara
Paul Dano as Seth
Noah Segan as Kid Blue
Jeff Daniels as Jack Mitchell
Piper Perabo as Suzie
Garret Dillahunt as Jesse

Kevin Smith tried this with Clerks II but I remember there being some big deal made about it and it wasn't allowed or something.

"Kevin Smith first recorded a commentary track for Clerks II around May 2006 a few months before its theatrical release that was to be downloaded through iTunes and listened to in the theaters, which was meant to appeal primarily to Smith’s hardcore DVD-purchasing fan base.[2] The Weinstein Company, Kevin Smith, and iTunes were all aboard, but theater owners felt that allowing people to bring outside devices would be distracting and disrupting to other audience members with people laughing at otherwise silent parts of the film"

@Marvel72

(Now I'm not picking on you but...)

Better than:
•The Master
•Dredd 3D
•The Avengers
•TDKR
•Moonrise Kingdom
•Safe
•Ted
•Prometheus
•Bernie
•Klown
•MiB3
•Act of Valor
•Hunger Games
•Paranorman

Just wait for the sugar high to come down. There were a lot of good movies this year to be considered before you go and say Looper was THE BEST, you know what I mean? I'll agree with you, it was good, but the BEST? You gotta watch more movies and lose the girlfriend, job, nightlife and activities preventing you from sitting in a movie theater 3 times a week.

I mean LOSER
^_^

Seriously though, if you haven't seen any of those movies on that list, check them out.

I would say it's better than a fair amount of your list. The only ones on there I consider better than it are"

Moonrise Kingdom
The Dark Knight Rises
The Avengers
The Master

Other than that, I preferred it to the rest of that list.
