Well, I think it's fair to say that none of us will have seen this coming! Deadline is reporting that Matthew Vaughn has decided not to direct X-Men: Days of Future Past for 20th Century Fox. Instead, it is thought that his next project will be the big screen adaptation of The Secret Service, a comic book series which he co-plotted with writer Mark Millar (Kick-Ass) and artist Dave Gibbons (Watchmen). With a release date set for July 18th, 2014, the studio are on the hunt for a new director to take on the X-Men: First Class sequel, and atop their list is none other than X-Men and X-2 helmer, Bryan Singer. Matthew Vaughn will still produce.

I think its time Mr. Singer took back the X-men series, considering how X3 turned out
BlueMex - 10/25/2012, 12:46 PM
Oh man this is sad news! i hope singer prevails!

Why is the knee-jerk reaction to blame the studio for a director's personal choice?
XxComablackxX1937 - 10/25/2012, 12:48 PM
Why did he decide not to direct?

An Singer would be okay with me.

I kinda gave up on x men films.. I don't have high expectations for any of them now..
RorMachine - 10/25/2012, 12:57 PM
Singer directed what is imo the best X-Men movie yet, X-men 2..but, Vaughn came pretty damn close with First Class and since this is a direct sequel I'm disappointed that he won't be back. I also doubt Singer will replace him, I think it will end up being someone else..Ratner maybe? That would be cool.

:)

please no singer he's horrible. Seen X2. one fight scene in thw whole movie and wolverine gets his behind kicked the whole time, A SUPERMAN MOVIE WHERE HE SAVES A PLANE. gosh he is terrible at making superhero movies.
Tony93 - 10/25/2012, 1:02 PM
I loved x men 2
ElShumway - 10/25/2012, 1:02 PM
Well, shit. FC was by far the best of the X-Men movies (and that's not saying much, but still...) and Singer is a HACK so if this really happens, no money from me FOX.
Reasonnnn - 10/25/2012, 1:04 PM
Brett Ratner or GTFO :)

I wanted Matthew Vaughn as the director of X-Men: Days of Future Past. But at least Fox might hire Bryan Singer. I really enjoyed X2:X-Men United.
BruceLeroy - 10/25/2012, 1:08 PM
LOL Fox.
GeekOfKrypton - 10/25/2012, 1:09 PM
that sucks!! Marvel should try to retain the rights so they can do the x-Men justice like the Avengers movie.

will at lest Bret Rattner ant on that list he dose not need to be tied to any comic book movie ever again and this is from some one who liked X-men the last Stand
JorLBola - 10/25/2012, 1:10 PM
Brian Singer was too serious in X-men and X2 even Brett was more 'colorful' to represent a comic book universe...
ironpool007 - 10/25/2012, 1:10 PM
Shit...
myparentsaredead - 10/25/2012, 1:12 PM
I think what pisses me off most is that Millar, the man responsible for bringing up the Fox/Marvel Universe, is the one that has given it its biggest blow with this. I'm okay with Singer, as long as he keeps a visual consistency with Vaughn's FC.
WolvieCBM - 10/25/2012, 1:13 PM
Dammit.

@Ror - Ratner? Haha. Take that back. RIGHT [frick]ING NOW. :)
DCjohnny - 10/25/2012, 1:13 PM
pls dont bring back bryan singer....
ShadesAtKnightII - 10/25/2012, 1:16 PM
If they can get Singer, I'll be happy. But if Mark Millar has anything to do with this, I will boycott this damn film!
BatmanBlueLantern - 10/25/2012, 1:19 PM
So he doesn't direct Kick Ass 2 so he can direct this, and now he won't direct X-Men to direct a movie? WHAT!
Galaxy - 10/25/2012, 1:22 PM
Awww c'mon!!!! First class was the best of the x-men series and now this is happening!?
kevberg - 10/25/2012, 1:23 PM
I thought Singer was a producer on X-M:FC. He probably has been working close with these films and if Singer comes back, then Im sure it'll continue teh script and ideas Vaughn had, i can't imagine it'll be bad.

I know Superman Returns sucked, but Singer might go back to what works for him on x-men and give us quality....I Hope.
Luigi - 10/25/2012, 1:24 PM
:(
Joe6Pack74 - 10/25/2012, 1:24 PM
They need to just put the X-men on the shelf for 5-10 years then start up again from scratch.
marvel72 - 10/25/2012, 1:24 PM
i'd have singer direct it over ratner any day of the week,x-men 2 is the best x-men movie & the best comic book movie from fox.
tazmaniak - 10/25/2012, 1:24 PM
Makes sense. If this movie is bridging the gap between both franchises, it's fitting for Singer to be back at the helm.

Despite not directing First Class, he did write the story for it and was the producer. And up until Vaughn was hired, he was going to be the director. So creatively, First Class was still his film.

I'm looking forward to it if it comes to pass.

I'm not opposed to Singer reclaiming the franchise (even if it is just for this movie) but I want to see someone else's take on it.

I liked Singer's work on X-Men, but Vaughn dropping out of what could be the best installment in the series?

This does seem odd considering Mark Millars role in the development of fox'smarvel properties. He could have set a brilliant precednt by working with his friend on the sequel to a good xmen film. I know secret service is a passion project but it could have waited, strike while the irons hot with xmen now that it seems to be relevant again.

As long as singer doesnt take the franchise back 6 years becasue black leather in superhero films is dated i'll be happy.
DoctorDoomSayer - 10/25/2012, 1:29 PM
well hopefully he is backing out of this flim so he can direct Nemesis.
