Zack Snyder Says "We'll See What Happens" When It Comes To A MAN OF STEEL Sequel

Man of Steel director Zack Snyder was careful not to give too much away when quizzed about the possibility of continuing Superman's adventures past next June's reboot, but you can read his comments on that and more after the jump.

Talking to E! Online at the Arthritis Foundation gala in Beverly Hills yesterday, Man of Steel director Zack Snyder was finally quizzed on the question that's been on the mind of many a comic book fan for a while now. Is he interested in also helming a follow-up to the eagerly anticipated reboot? "We like to take it one step at a time and not curse anything," he teased. "It's that kind of thing so we'll see what happens." Fair enough. It's way too early for sequel talk at this point anyway (something which Green Lantern proved pretty quickly when it bombed both critically and financially at the box office last year). As for not giving away anything about the plot, he added, "It's super hard to keep it a secret" and said this about seeing Henry Cavill suit up for the first time. "It was awesome. You look at him and you're like, 'That was a good idea!'" Be sure to sound off with your thoughts on his comments in the usual place and click on the link at the bottom of the page to read more.

In the pantheon of superheroes, Superman is the most recognized and revered character of all time. Clark Kent/Kal-El (Henry Cavill) is a young twenty-something journalist who feels alienated by powers beyond his imagination. Transported years ago to Earth from Krypton, a highly advanced, distant planet, Clark struggles with the ultimate question 'Why am I here?' Shaped by the values of his adoptive parents Martha (Diane Lane) and Jonathan Kent (Kevin Costner), Clark discovers having extraordinary abilities means making difficult decisions. When the world is in dire need of stability, an even greater threat emerges. Clark must become a Man of Steel, to protect the people he loves and shine as the world’s beacon of hope – Superman.

STARRING:

Henry Cavill as Clark Kent/Superman

The director is perfect for the job. The producer is perfect for the job. he actor is perfect for the job. What we've seen looks perfect so far and what little we've heard about the story sounds perfect.

PLEASE GOD BE THE SUPERMAN FILM I'VE BEEN LONGING FOR SINCE I WAS A KID!
LP4 - 10/29/2012, 12:49 PM
I'm surprised this [frick]ing movie still exists. We never hear hide nor hair from this film.
Tony93 - 10/29/2012, 12:49 PM
TheRationalOne - 10/29/2012, 12:51 PM
I can't fuggin wait for this movie.
LP4 - 10/29/2012, 12:52 PM
Well in any case, I hope this movie is great. This has been my #1 most anticipated CBM since it was first announced back in early 2010.

Tony93 - 10/29/2012, 12:52 PM
I want them to show the comic con footage trailer in December
Spideyguy94 - 10/29/2012, 12:52 PM
Superman batman and spider-man will make money no matter what. Even though superman returns didn't make as much money as they thought it would it still made its budget back despite the lack if action. If man of steel has some great action it will make at least 600 million worldwide

I want to see a Superman for the ages. A story grounded in reality and swept up in grand emotion and epic conflict. An orphan raised with pure morality, who loses his father figure, but finds solace in helping others, not reveling in his own pain.

Superman ALWAYS does the right thing, even when it's the hardest thing anyone could do. That's where the conflict comes in, because he has to sacrifice the things he wants to do so.

I really, really hope everyone involved gets that.
DarkGrifter - 10/29/2012, 12:53 PM
I remember Reynolds discussing potential story lines for a Green Lantern trilogy, now he couldn't seem more disinterested with the future of the franchise. However I can't see Man of Steel doing so bad its abandoned entirely.
Tony93 - 10/29/2012, 12:54 PM
@LP4 same here, most anticipated over anything else.. ever.
Ha1frican - 10/29/2012, 12:54 PM
Good that he isn't rushing it like so many other franchises
TheRationalOne - 10/29/2012, 12:55 PM
And I hope never to see a WW movie. As part of justice league, fine. Solo, no thanks.

INSTANTJUSTICE - 10/29/2012, 12:58 PM

Why do all these men involved in Superman all have so much latent homo-eroticism floating around them?

Singer = gay

Cavill = possibly gay?...considering the rumours

Snyder = 300 (total YMCA)

Not that there's anything wrong with it but why does supes foster so much 'gay'?
fettastic - 10/29/2012, 12:58 PM
Superman Returns lost sight of that, and it was one of MANY reasons why it failed. Superman is not a stalker or a deadbeat dad. Dude has x-ray vision but never had any idea he impregnated her? GTFO! And what kind of jagoff just leaves on a ridiculous journey to sede if his dad lied to him about the destruction of Krypton without even so much as a goodbye to anyone? SO MANY problems with that movie. Don't even get me started on the costume.

So far MOS looks superb. I don't care what anyone says, Snyder was the perfect choice to direct. He's an amazing director, a true visionary. Watchmen was absolutely fantastic and one of my favorite films of all time.
Spidey31 - 10/29/2012, 12:59 PM
Should Defiently be a trilogly
INSTANTJUSTICE - 10/29/2012, 1:01 PM

Have you got something against gays?
DHisHere - 10/29/2012, 1:02 PM
Green Lantern is Shit

Do it Flash!
fettastic - 10/29/2012, 1:05 PM
We always had an uneasiness with Green Lantern. From the time Reynolds was cast until we saw all the trailers which were all underwhelming, particularly with the effects.

The main problem with that movie was that it was much too dark. The villain was the [frick]ing elephant man ferchrissakes! And the other villain was a damned horror monster! Who's gonna take their kid to that?

Green Lantern has always been a fun, Star Warsey title. Sure there's some dark elements but first and foremost it should be a rolicking adventure. WB totally dropped the ball on that and GL was the first casualty of Make-it-like-TDK-itis.

We get a good, strong director in JLA that actually knows who the hell GL is and we can reboot that [frick]er the right way and get families into the theater for the spinoff franchise.
MrShumway - 10/29/2012, 1:07 PM
Christopher Meloni was also at this event and had this to say about MOS:

"I just keep telling everyone it's a reimagining and something that you've never seen before in your life—how a superhero is portrayed, the journey he gave him and how it's filmed. You've never see anything like it."
jimpinto24 - 10/29/2012, 1:08 PM
I hope MOS does well at the box office, because I would love to see a MOS2.
DHisHere - 10/29/2012, 1:09 PM
Man of Steel
Steel still lives
Fall of Man
Steel Rises
Steel is Gone
Steel Please Come Back
Steel Returns
TheAbomination - 10/29/2012, 1:11 PM
WB is probably playing it safe. They don't want this to end up like Green Lantern, where they gave the green-light to a sequel months before they found out the movie would bomb.
DrRockso - 10/29/2012, 1:14 PM
On that note, I think I'll smoke a joint and throw in the directors cut of Watchmen.
DrRockso - 10/29/2012, 1:16 PM
@MrSteiners that actually looks awesome.
fettastic - 10/29/2012, 1:25 PM
The next one will be a prequel called...

Boy of Lead
fettastic - 10/29/2012, 1:27 PM
MrSteiners, I'm not a Flash fan....but if he was going up against Gorilla Grodd, that would be pretty [frick]in' sweet!

Come on Zack don't let us down! Give us the epic Superman movie that we as fans deserve!!!! Please!

MisterMagurlypse - 10/29/2012, 1:35 PM
Yes, one step at a time.
@DrRockso....puff, puff, pass man!
fettastic - 10/29/2012, 1:38 PM
It's been a long time since we had a really good Superman film. I would argue we've really only had about 1 1/2 good ones.

The first one was mostly perfect though I could have done without the goofy comic tone of Lex Luthor and the squeal-like-a-pig guy.

Superman II, despite being lauded by everyone, including myself, has a lot of damn faults. Unfortunately I can never unsee that retarded seran wrap of death Superman peels off his chest. Non being a complete idiot, again for attempted comedy. How the hell does a non-powered Clark Kent walk back from the fricken' arctic? he barely even had a coat! the theatrical cut doesn't even bother to show how he gets his powers back, probably because the deleted scene explaining it is stupid. But it's better than no explanation at all. And the fight between the Kryptonians, while cool, is only about 5 minutes long.

Superman II had one good element, Drunken, Evil Superman. That was the SHIT!

Superman IV was fairly pathetic but if it just didn't have the grating John Cryer character it at leasdt would not make me want to punch random people in the face. He was like the original Chris Carter in The Fifth Element. Every time you see him you want to scream obscenities.

Superman Returns is just a re-animated corpse that's just pissed itself.
MisterMagurlypse - 10/29/2012, 1:38 PM
I'll pass it to InstantJustice so he can CHILL on the gay references.
For real!
BruceLeroy - 10/29/2012, 1:40 PM
@xBlueFlameXKid

Man, really? MOS is probably going to do well but I highly doubt it ends up doing as well as Iron Man 3. MOS doing numbers similar to Batman Begins or the first Iron Man would be more of a realistic bet.
Happy11 - 10/29/2012, 1:50 PM
Can't wait, also I think Indus next few months we will get a trailer then from March April it will be marketed in a big way. Cavill looks awesome the teaser looks awesome.
Next year is looking good for cbms, just hope this and wolverine live up to the hype, as the 3 marvel studios movies im3, thor2 and ca2 should be good. Bring on 2013.
Fogs - 10/29/2012, 1:52 PM
If you mix his two phrases:

"It was awesome. You look at him and you're like, It's super hard!"
dezdigi - 10/29/2012, 1:54 PM
I think it's a good bet that we'll see the first full trailer in front of the Hobbit. I'm hoping for a Wolverine trailer around Jan/Feb. A second IM 3 trailer around Superbowl time? Thor trailer by the end of the summer.
dezdigi - 10/29/2012, 1:57 PM
Also, we could get the first Thor teaser with IM 3
Happy11 - 10/29/2012, 1:58 PM
Blueflame u just contradicted yourself by answering back
JULEZ13 - 10/29/2012, 2:01 PM
Zack Snyder was the perfect choice to direct MOS. Superman needs a visionary director, yes need! We need to see what all his powers can really do! Same with JL, Snyder is also the man for the job.

I like that WB isn't getting too ahead of themselves with talk of sequels going on almost a year before a film is released a la GL... God that bombed so bad.

MOS will be great and if it is great it will undoubtedly make more money than any other CBM out that year. I can guarantee that!

But Snyder better come back for the sequel! I don't know what's up with him and sequels but it seems as though he's afraid of them!
SmithWillSuffice - 10/29/2012, 2:03 PM
He's taking a page out of Nolan's play book. I'm sure he has ideas of what he'd like to do with a sequel, but isn't getting ahead of himself until it's a done deal.
Avenged99 - 10/29/2012, 2:11 PM
Because the trailer tells us soooo much
