Guillermo del Toro To Helm A DC Movie Featuring SWAMP THING, DEADMAN, ZATANNA And More

It sounds as if it's a long way off, but Pacific Rim director Guillermo del Toro is apparently in negotiations with Warner Bros. to bring a supernatural version of The Avengers to the big screen featuring the likes of The Spectre, Phantom Strange, Sargon and more! Read on for details.

Our friends over at Latino-Review have just broken one hell of a story. According to the site, Guillermo del Toro (Hellboy, Pacific Rim) will soon begin work on a DC Comics adaptation for Warner Bros. called Heaven Sent, and it will bring together some of the most well-known supernatural characters from that comic book universe, including:

• Deadman
• The Spectre
• Swamp Thing
• Constantine Hellblazer
• Phantom Stranger
• Zatanna
• Zatara
• Sargon
• Etrigan the Demon

That's the list the site has and it seems to cover that area of the DC Universe very nicely (a shame that there's no mention of Animal Man though...). Warner's lawyers are currently hard at work on making sure they have the rights to bring each of these characters to the big screen, and while it's a project which is likely still a good few years away, but it's definitely not too early to start getting excited about this ambitious project!

JimmyPesto - 11/1/2012, 12:34 PM

jimpinto24 - 11/1/2012, 12:35 PM
Sounds good! DC are starting to give more characters their own movie. I wish Animal Man was on the list.
toco89 - 11/1/2012, 12:36 PM
OH YEAH!!!

Great News considering the Justice League movie hasn't officially been confirmed.
BruceLeroy - 11/1/2012, 12:36 PM
Wow.
TonyChu - 11/1/2012, 12:36 PM
Still pulling for a Sandman movie, Del Toro would be perfect.
TonyChu - 11/1/2012, 12:37 PM
By the way they should call this Justice Leauge Dark.
BSingerFoxMen - 11/1/2012, 12:37 PM
Interesting concept, but I don't quite understand the weird mish mash of characters. I mean, I get the mystical, supernatural element, but it just doesn't sound like something that would work. I like Del Toro tho, so if anyone could make it happen in an awesome and exciting way, it's that guy!
logan71 - 11/1/2012, 12:38 PM
hell yeah!
PapaII - 11/1/2012, 12:38 PM
Holy shit, this is [frick]ing AWESOME!
Dev7 - 11/1/2012, 12:39 PM
ummmm....Why not just Del Toro to direct the [frick]ing Justice League movie instead of having him direct a group of no name DC characters? -_-
BackwardGalaxy - 11/1/2012, 12:39 PM
So, they're just gonna do team up movies from now on? Jump straight into JL, this, and... hmm... Legion calling?
JDUKE25 - 11/1/2012, 12:39 PM
Sounds alright, but I'm more concerned with the Justice League.
DarthTesla - 11/1/2012, 12:41 PM
HOLY SHIT, a Justice League Dark movie directed by GDT????

Holy shit.
Ha1frican - 11/1/2012, 12:41 PM
Just further prove that warner brothers has no idea what its doing in regards to DC
kackbratze - 11/1/2012, 12:41 PM
I don't understand this... why don't WB focus on the Justice League movie and/or movies of the JL members, like Flash, Wonder Woman or something like that?

I'd definitely like to see such a movie, but from a business point of view, it just makes no sense to me to pursue bringing these characters to the big screen, that probably not very many people who don't read comics ever heard of...
JordanKing - 11/1/2012, 12:43 PM
I can't wait to see all these D-List heroes up on the big screen together. How fun.
DemonicJoker666 - 11/1/2012, 12:44 PM
HELLZ YEA!!!!!!!!
luffycapri - 11/1/2012, 12:49 PM
There we go, now that's what I'm talking about dc !
beane2099 - 11/1/2012, 12:50 PM
First the incredulous fanboy response: How bout you get your business together with Justice League before you start announcing all this other stuff.

Second the excited fanboy response: Caramba, this could be all shades of awesome. I'd also like to see Zauriel added to that mix. Someone else mentioned a Legion movie. I say yes to all of that. Talk about some serious universe building. Heroes, magic and time travel? I can get down with that.
PaulRom - 11/1/2012, 12:50 PM
Sounds really cool. Right up del Toro's alley. Can't wait.
blueorangeny - 11/1/2012, 12:51 PM
Funny how some people are commenting this as negative. lmao smh
toco89 - 11/1/2012, 12:52 PM
@Halloweenjack and Dev7

Del Toro isn't even a comic book fan, he's stated over and again. His thiing is monsters and the mystical supernatural.

Too many people hating sideways cuz they can't talk shit about Del Toro without giving themselves away.
imnotwearinghockeypants - 11/1/2012, 12:52 PM
Effing fantastic idea. Let Neil Gaiman write the screenplay and get Stephen Bissette to do character design.
blueorangeny - 11/1/2012, 12:53 PM
@ Paul Rom - exactly right. he went on record not too long ago that he wants these characters.

I wouldn't be surprised they deem this flick as JL Dark.
Asterisk - 11/1/2012, 12:53 PM
YESSSSSSSSSS
ATrueHero1987 - 11/1/2012, 12:57 PM
Interesting but I was hoping to get a Swamp Thing movie first.
Darthkostis - 11/1/2012, 12:58 PM
Justice League Dark.Hell yeah!
Ancar - 11/1/2012, 1:02 PM
A supernatural version of The Avengers?! You gotta be kidding, man!

Haven't you ever herad about Justice League Dark?
toco89 - 11/1/2012, 1:02 PM
@ckal

Know what to be true? What hasn't happened?

patriautism - 11/1/2012, 1:02 PM
Sounds awesome, as long as they don't have Keanu return as constantine
shahrazstate - 11/1/2012, 1:03 PM
Dc can count me in.
third3ye - 11/1/2012, 1:03 PM
I'm all for it but if WB wants to do this right and cash in big, do a proper JLA movie FIRST and THEN lesser known teams/characters.
dezdigi - 11/1/2012, 1:03 PM
This sounds fantastic. I hope it lives up to its potential!
RorMachine - 11/1/2012, 1:06 PM
If this happens I may find religion. Get Black Orchid in there for good measure!
JonG303 - 11/1/2012, 1:06 PM
Who the hell is Constantine Hellblazer? Do you mean John Constantine?
RAWRG - 11/1/2012, 1:09 PM
Interesting...they got the perfect director for it...IM ALL IN!!! DC has hope of getting their shit together! that is if they actually move on with this project... I also see that their making risky moves just like Marvel I guess that WB wants to give Marvel a run for their money and hit back after seeing that Marvel has their own cinematic universe and also after The Avengers!!! LET THE FLAME WAR BEGIN!!!!!
