The Expendables franchise definitely seems to be one of those things that you either love or hate, but any action movie fan simply can't deny just how much fun they really are. Bringing together the actors best known for their contributions to the genre, the films have so far offered a tongue in cheek and explosive nod to a genre which dominated multiplexes in the 80s and 90s (only to now arguably be replaced by superhero adaptations). Taking to his official Facebook page, star Sylvester Stallone has issued the following statement about the planned third instalment, confirming that work is moving ahead on the sequel whether some critics like it or not! You can read my 4* review of The Expendables 2 by clicking HERE.

We are preparing the film with the same passion and commitment as the previous two. We have confirmed Nicolas Cage, a master actor who gives a veneer intellectual group. Hopefully we can realize to Harrison Ford, Wesley Snipes and Mickey Rourke. That is the great mission of the producer. We will continue with the same narrative scheme, the agility and the frenzy, which are inherent to the saga. What will definitely be the last? I can not guarantee. In principle it would be two deliveries, but the affection of the people encouraged us to work on a third. I guess as long as we amused ourselves by offering fun and people, we can continue playing 'The Expendables'. For now we are not as expendable as it should and as some critics want.

GuardianAngel - 11/5/2012, 5:17 AM
Expendables 2 could've easily been rated PG-13, but it doesn't matter because it was shit.
2gold - 11/5/2012, 5:17 AM
Wesley Snipes? Man, you get Wesley back then I am really sold.

One thing I am liking about this series is it is almost a tribute to these actors and the realm they helped create. Is it well written? No, but the one liners are solid and the action has been insane. Is it Commando insane? Of course not, but it does still have that 80's action feel. It's designed to just be mindless killing fun and in that sense, it does pretty good.

Nic should be the villain though. Let him go completely back to his Face/Off persona and we are in business.
blvdnoise - 11/5/2012, 5:23 AM
Snipes and "PsycoVersion" Cage FTW! and Yes Cage should be all villain..

ABLEE337 - 11/5/2012, 5:50 AM
Harrison Ford is too classy for Expendables, IMO.
FrankieDedo - 11/5/2012, 5:57 AM
people that thinks that a movie needs to be rated R to be cool, should really think about his hate against the world.
Gore and blood doesn't make a movie automatically awesome. it doesn't in the majority of case.
dracula - 11/5/2012, 6:19 AM
bring on steven seagal as the villain
Spideyguy94 - 11/5/2012, 6:19 AM
Never really cared for the expendables
cmax - 11/5/2012, 6:19 AM
I enjoyed 2 more than 1. Took itself less seriously and had some cheezy moments like classic action movies do.
AlcoholicA - 11/5/2012, 6:30 AM
Bruce and Arnold's banter in that one scene with the "I'll be back" "No, I'LL be back.." "yippy ky yah" stuff was just too much for me. TOO cheese. But overall I liked both.
Mrcool210 - 11/5/2012, 6:39 AM
if we get a performance like this, ill be happy
LucasMend - 11/5/2012, 6:39 AM
I was [frick]ing excited to EXP 2, but it end up being boring as hell.
RobbieDigital - 11/5/2012, 6:52 AM
I liked it....its not meant to win Oscars...its meant to entertain.....and I thought it did immensely!! Its a homage to old school 80's action movies...its supposed to be a little cheesy with a high body count.

I just don't understand Harrison Ford? Why not go with Kurt Russell or someone....

Oh and those saying Ford is "Too Classy"........"Cowboys and Aliens", "Six Days, Seven Nights".....and the awesome, now classic....."Hollywood Homicide" ........he's done some pretty bad movies in his time too
MiracleMe - 11/5/2012, 6:58 AM
I like action blow-em-up movies but there's been NOTHING that I've seen or heard about these movies that's made me want to take the time and spend the money to see them in the theaters. When they're on cable/satellite I'll see them then. Probably.

Maybe.
Boogie138 - 11/5/2012, 7:06 AM
considering the reason these films were made, they are pretty much critic proof. whatever you like or don't like about these movies, everyone has to see it and decide. you get it or you don't. you enjoy for this or don't for that. but you can't fault the movies for what they do, how could you. anyone who looked into the first movie's production said the same thing. i will love this or hate it.
BlackMamba - 11/5/2012, 7:12 AM
Action Jackson aka Carl Weathers needs to be in Expendables 3. He's the remaining action star of the 80's that has not been in the previous movies.
marvel72 - 11/5/2012, 7:17 AM
"sylvester stallone confirms nic cage for the expendables 3"

i can confirm now that i won't be watching the expendables 3
sameoldthing - 11/5/2012, 7:35 AM
These films are just shoot ups & shit blowing up...by great action stars!
Its not intended to have high brow stories, thats not this series intent.

Most of these guys still do other action films & those can have actual plot, this stuff is fun & crazy. Bring On Many Sequels!

Want R rating really,dont be a puss..bloodier the better!

Spideyguy94 - 11/5/2012, 7:40 AM
@marvel72 just think he nearly got to play superman, that would of been worse than batman and robin
AlexDeLarge87 - 11/5/2012, 7:48 AM
Its kinda sad Arnold and Bruce are not the bad guys. Fight between Sly, Arnie and Bruce would have been [frick]ing awesome!
LAXtremest - 11/5/2012, 8:07 AM
Yes!!!! I'm sorry but I love these movies. If the get Segal in this I'm there opening night. Like I was for the second film. You're not going here expecting Oscar worthy performances. You're going to see old actions stars f**k shit up. SOLD.
Brady1138 - 11/5/2012, 9:09 AM
Screw quality, Expendables 2 was a fun action movie and that's all it set out to be. Looking forward to the third!
plasticman - 11/5/2012, 9:10 AM
If you are going to do CArl Weathers then why not Louis Gossett Jr. if he's still alive.

Nic Cage? I love his 90's movies. I lend by viewing time to his work but more often lately Cage has been a breaker of films. (Sorry, reading Fear Itself right now.) I can see this franchise going south dependent on the type of character Cage is expected to play.
cindar - 11/5/2012, 9:16 AM
to all the people saying it was shit like the first one, if you hated the first one so much, why watch the second. this STUPID act obviously shows your [frick]ing idiots!
CharlesLord - 11/5/2012, 9:23 AM
I thought Mickey's character died before the 2nd one, which is why they were shooting things up?

Harrison Ford and Wesley Snipes? This is gonna be the greatest movie ever made lmfaoooo
Mr2099 - 11/5/2012, 9:34 AM
Liam neeson needs to get involved in this somehow. He would be BEAST in this franchise.
jimpinto24 - 11/5/2012, 9:35 AM
I like the EX franchise. Rather you like or dislike, they make money at the box office. I'm looking forward to the EX3.
StrangerX - 11/5/2012, 9:48 AM
I wasn't all that impressed with the last one. Nic Cage seems right for all this over the top acting.

Also what happened to the story where Stone Colds character's twin comes back for revenge.
Montross - 11/5/2012, 10:12 AM
Sean Bean should be in this.
Matador - 11/5/2012, 10:24 AM
Bitch, bitch, bitch, bitch, and bitch please! These movies weren't meant for this generation but the old school generation that know the good times of the action movie of yesterday. So I'm a fan if you don't like don't watch it. Your two cents [frick] it no one give two shits.
OtakuPapi - 11/5/2012, 10:33 AM
I how they structure this new movie with a strong storyline and everything will be fine. Great movie franchise for people who love action
jaysin420 - 11/5/2012, 11:09 AM
If you're a man and you don't like the Expendables, you should get a sex change asap.
KingEmperor - 11/5/2012, 11:35 AM
Isn't Wesley Snipes in prison? Also, bring Liam Neeson on board!
parascythe - 11/5/2012, 11:57 AM
ALL IN FOR MICKEY and WESLEY!!!! include Steve Seagal and Kurt Russel
thwip - 11/5/2012, 12:54 PM
guys Guys GUYS...

Josh's comment in the article about action films' dominance of the box office until recently being replaced by the comic book movie gave me a helluvan idea.

Imagine the world 10-20 years from now. The era of the comic book film has passed, and now all people want are Charolette Bronte adaptations or something. Then someone brilliant (Downey?) comes along and does a superhero genre version of an Expendables-type film. Downey, Bale, Cavill, Hemsworth, Evans, Reynolds (hopefully we'll have had a Deadpool film by then), Jackman, and Fassbender all team up to kick some caped ass.

Middle-aged nerdgasm.
Dunejedi - 11/5/2012, 1:00 PM
The idea behind these movies is a novelty that wears off pretty quickly. The first one? Hell, yes. Bring it. The second one? No, we "got it" the first time. The third one? I know you guys are hurting for work/attention, but no. Hell, no. The sadness/desperation levels are too depressing.

Oh, and Nic Cage: Master Actor? GTFO.
