Great movie with some noticeable room for improvement but deserves every penny it's earned thus far.

Great movie. Not just a great BOND movie. Javier Bardem is a great actor who really does Bond villains justice. Daniel Craig is probably the best Bond since Connery. Amazing movie.

Tied with TDKR for MY favorite film of the year. This is MY opinion, so don't use this as a starting point for debate.

Went with "not perfect but really enjoyed it". It was prob my favorite Bond movie..after Casino Royale. But the last act was just a bit too shaky for me to give it full marks. The stuff in teh house was just one action cliche after another, and ..

SPOILER SPOILER

the way Silva checked out was almost unforgivable. A knife in the back? Really? He and Bond needed a proper physical confrontation.

Loved it.

Though would have preferred Silva killing M in cold blood rather than her bleeding out... but still it was an awesome movie.
AC1
AC1 - 11/12/2012, 4:48 PM
@Ror no they didn't. Silva and Bond would be too equal for a fist fight, Bond had to exploit Silva's insane obsession with M. The only reason Bond beat him was because he caught him off guard - Silva probably would have succeeded fully otherwise.
Azazel1
Azazel1 - 11/12/2012, 4:48 PM
@Ror-Couldn't disagree more. The film was always about Silvia and M, this was the confrontation the film was leading to and the film did it almost perfectly, Silvia putting the gun to M's head and telling her to kill both of them. Bond and Silvia having some sort of physical confrontation would have been a different film.
AC1
AC1 - 11/12/2012, 4:49 PM
I can't tell whether I liked this more or less than Casino Royale... I'd consider both as my favourite Bond films, but keep changing my mind over which I prefer...
MarkCassidy
MarkCassidy - 11/12/2012, 5:00 PM
I'm sorry, Bond vs Bond-villain yes? That's how it works. I get that M was Silva's obsession and that was what drove his arc, but that doesn't mean Bond needed to dispatch him so quickly..and let's face it easily. Purely from a narrative standpoint I felt it was lacking.
Azazel1
Azazel1 - 11/12/2012, 5:05 PM
They had already had Bond vs villain and Bond outsmarted him. He won. Silvia had already lost by the time he reached M, he was finished he knew this the knife to the back was awesome. Casino Royal had no Bond vs Le Chiffre physical confrontation at the end either. You mention cliches? That would have been really cliche.

Wow! I would've figured it'd be unanimous I LOVED SKYFALL!
AC1
AC1 - 11/12/2012, 5:11 PM
Azazel makes a good point about Le Chiffre, Ror. Plus, Bond is meant to be a blunt instrument used by the government - he's a tool used to kill people the government doesn't agree with. It made more sense for him to quickly kill Silva on many levels, including it being more about M and Silva than Bond and Silva, outsmarting him being Bond's only advantage, and not dragging it out unnecessarily. Perhaps there should've been a fight somewhere in the film, but the climax wasn't the place for it - so much other, more important stuff was going on.
MarkCassidy
MarkCassidy - 11/12/2012, 5:14 PM
Yeah but Le Chiffre was killed before the end, there was another story to drive the finale. Seeing the hero and villain kick seven shades out of each other is not cliche in an action movie, it's fan service. I'm glad you liked the knife in the back but I hated it. And all those silly groans and valley girl noises from Silva didn't help either! Plus, why didn't he shoot the old Scottish git? Suddenly he has qualms about taking innocent life and just fires a warning shot? That might be nit picking but when I don't like something (the entire last half hour of the movie) I will tend to do that:)

pintoman - 11/12/2012, 5:15 PM
The results are fascinating. This story was terrible and very un-Bond-like. Plot holes galore...and so many similarities to other films. Dark Knight?
MarkCassidy
MarkCassidy - 11/12/2012, 5:16 PM
Ok maybe if they had a face off somewhere else then I'd have accepted the end as it was. It was just disappointing that we hear so much about how great an agent Silva was, and "you don't know fear like him" etc..then what do we actually see him do? Come on to Bond and threaten a pensioner!
Ranger14
Ranger14 - 11/12/2012, 5:24 PM
The movie hasn't even been out a week in the U.S. Don't you think it would make more sense to wait at least a week or two to run a poll, so that more people have the opportunity to see it? Just saying...

CyberA - 11/12/2012, 6:26 PM

I, actually, voted "Other"... Skyfall was very well made and the actors, most definitely did their jobs, which, essentially, was to keep me entertained and to, really, make me feel it when M died (...because I, definitely, did feel it...)... However, I am not, entirely, sure that I could and/or would say that Skyfall was the best Bond movie ever thus far..., with all do respect to the film, as a whole, and the director and the cast, of course... *cool*/P :)

@Rormachine. Physical confrontation between Bond and Silva was a non-starter. Silva was a physical wreck after the cyanide and the prolonged torture. He was a different kind of villain. He was clearly breaking down toward the end. Becoming mentally unstable. As time passed he just wanted to close the circle. A suicidal villain does not always want to kill others.
MarkCassidy
MarkCassidy - 11/12/2012, 7:29 PM
Nope, Silva was still in peak condition... Or did he call in an air strike to dispatch the two armed guards that were posted to watch him when his cell door opened? it was Bond who was actually a step behind if anything.

BrownandYellowWolvie - 11/12/2012, 8:05 PM
yeah i'm on the "meh it was ok" list.

i don't really get why it's getting such praise. it was good, but i personally find many of the past bond movies to be much better. I like the double-crossing agents, the cool gadgets, the cars (although the vintage Aston in this one was a nice touch, it was short lived). This movie didn't have any of these things, which i feel are a big part of 007. Daniel craig just isn't a suave smooth talker that Bond should be either. I felt it lacking...

Brilliant. Very well written villain, and story.
A sorta intimate Bond film but epic at the same time.
Trademark Sam Mendez handsome looking picture and cinematography.
More psychological character driven than usual. "Deeper".
I couldn't help but to see ALOT of Nolan's TDK in this, thankfully, it worked out great.
Batman and Bond lend themselves to the same tone.
Mendez still left his stamp on this tho.
Ranks higher than Casino Royal IMO, and I loved CR!

Great movie..These Bond films need to be R-rated..its adult themed, let the youth have their cartoons & grown ass men can have NAKED Bond girls & extreme killing or being killed!

@Ror (Spoilers ahead loyal readers.)
I disagree,Silva caught those guards by surprise.
If you pay close attention you can see how Silva walks slowly & awkwardly due to his poor condition.
When being chased he surely speeds up but isnt nearly as quick as I imagine he once was.

Bond caught up to him easily & it was only the thug who Bond dispatched after sniping from the building who was a capable combatant.
That guy took all Bond had on the train. In that building Bond was back in top shape due to removal of radiated bullet framents..he was pissed at that guy & showed him the door,er..the window!

Bond would have taken Silva..he was too close to M & so Jimmy gave him a knife in the back.
End Game.

Berean - 11/13/2012, 5:23 AM
@Ror. Just gotta disagree. Silva kills a couple lackeys distracted by security breach. He actually stated that the cyanide "ate his insides". He was always breathing hard in the movie. Harken back to the old Bond movies. There have been other Bond bosses that he does not have physical altercations with. Even Casino Royale, which was awesome. Bond doesn't even kill the eye-bleeder! Someone else does. I think you are being too critical of this movie.

My fav Bond films are two Connerys and now two Craigs. Russia and Goldfinger, Casino and Skyfall. I am VERY happy this film was made the exact way it was. and OMG, when they pulled out the car from Goldfinger, and the classic Bond music played, I was bouncing in my frickin seat!!!!! I never got to see a Connery film obviously in the real proper theater........ it may be as close to it as i would ever get..

I LOVED IT ALL.. this movie is CLASSIC, and yet.. new and way cool!!!! [I saw it twice this weekend. haha]

Not perfect, but only because of a few minor flaws; some of which are hardly specifiable. One of the best Bond films, but maybe not the best of all...about the latter, I'll never be able to decide, actually!

But I really enjoyed it, of course. Craig's still my favorite Bond, Bardem was brilliant, actually a very interesting new Q, (Spoilers!) Fiennes as the new M is simply awesome, and I don't think I need to say more about Dame Judi Dench. Stunning visuals and choreography (the Hong Kong silhouette fight scene is perhaps the perfect example), some cool classic bits (the Aston Martin!), and the music - particularly Adele's theme song - is also a plus.

SPOILER - SPOILER - SPOILER - SPOILER - SPOILER - SPOILER

I nearly cried at the end of the movie. I never cry in movies, so for a Bond movie to almost make me shed a tear... powerful ending. I mean that poor Aston Martin DB5 didn't stand a chance against that helicopter's weapons. Poor defenseless DB5...
Oh, and I guess M dying was pretty sad too. I bet she drove the Aston right through the pearly gates.

SkyFall was awesome but not as good as Casino Royale, but very close.
marantaz

It is the Best Bond Ever. And the ending was fine. Bond was a step behind... that was clear throughout the film... he was not at his best. Silva was clever, he was diabolical, and he was an equal to Bond, in the condition Bond was in.. but he was also a seriously f'd up dude, he was Bonds potential future... and he had a serious mommy fixation with M. He'd displayed his mental instability throughout the film as well... he wasn't a world domination guy, he was only out to embarass M and MI6, and his desperation to succeed grew as the film progressed in a plausible way (unlike the Jokers impossible acts of terror). Yeah, it was the best, and the little tributes to the Bonds of the past were great. It will be hard to top this one.

but... now the Bond works for Voldemort ...
