X-MEN And X-2 Costume Designer To Reunite With Bryan Singer For X-MEN: DOFP

If you didn't like the black leather costumes from the first two X-Men movies then this won't come as good news to you! Costume designer Louise Mingenbach, who also worked on Superman Returns, has signed up to reunite with Bryan Singer for X-Men: Days of Future Past.

X-Men: Days of Future Past director Bryan Singer has just revealed via his Twitter account that he is set to reunite with costume designer Louise Mingenbach on the highly anticipated sequel to Matthew Vaughn's critically acclaimed X-Men: First Class. It's hard to say whether or not this is good news, especially when it seems that the majority of fans hated the generic black leather costumes which, to the chagrin of many readers, were later used in Grant Morrison's New X-Men run (before Joss Whedon gave the mutants back their costumes in Astonishing X-Men). Mingenbach also worked on Superman Returns and X-Men Origins: Wolverine. How do you guys feel about this?

I'm supporting DOFP all the way because they seemed to be turning things around with FC, but they're bringing back a lot of bad habits.
toco89 - 11/12/2012, 4:40 PM
That leather costume thing doesn't make any sense.

Josh, you or Galactus should tweet them that. They might actually take notice from CBM.com.
Shua - 11/12/2012, 4:40 PM
I would be worried, but I think with the success of the Avengers and bringing Mark Millar on board they're gonna take the chances with real costumes from the comics. We'll see with Wolverine, if they give him his costume than I'll believe in DOFP
SUPERMAN2013 - 11/12/2012, 4:41 PM
those leather costumes even made me uncomfortable let alone them
Spideyguy94 - 11/12/2012, 4:42 PM
I hope fox makes them design colourful costumes, considering the fact that its more accepted nowadays then black leather
JoshWilding - 11/12/2012, 4:43 PM
toco89: I Tweeted the link to this article to Bryan Singer, so here's hoping he takes a look at the comments and appreciates that pretty much NO ONE wants to see those horrible costumes make a comeback. :)

Just another point to be added to the list of reasons to boycott this piece of utter shit.

Fox Studios strikes again.
2Challa - 11/12/2012, 4:49 PM
I think the idea here is to make a movie like first class and the initial trilogy at the same time.

T:TDW > IM3 > S:MOS

Wolverine and X:DOF have next to no hope in my opinion.

@kamenrider

spit my drink out on my keyboard! [frick]ing brilliant man.
storyteller - 11/12/2012, 4:52 PM
This woman ain't the problem. At the end of the day, the director get's final say so. Remember that this lady made Superman a big frekin S and Singer told her to make it small!

Honestly I hope Singer doesn't try to force an evolution into the black suits. I hope he uses this as a chance to make the team real costumes. In 2000 this worked and then Raimi took him to school.
luckylu - 11/12/2012, 4:53 PM
oh [frick]. not this biker gang bang shit again. can we get some real costumes like the pic in the article states. please i want to RECOGNIZE the characters.
dageekundaground - 11/12/2012, 4:54 PM
that last post was f*kng funny!
INSTANTJUSTICE - 11/12/2012, 4:54 PM

Tapping into that all important gay demographic.
mrHJK - 11/12/2012, 4:56 PM
I liked the more personalized black costumes in X-Men TLS.. Maybe they could keep something like that for the future X-Men and keep a version of the blue & yellow for the past X-Men?
prettynuclear2 - 11/12/2012, 4:57 PM
She also designed Mystique and the new Spider-Man which looks awesome. The leather was Singer's idea.
Mercwitham0uth - 11/12/2012, 4:59 PM
Shitty leather outfits that all look the same AHOY!!!!

[frick] I can't wait till Marvel gets the rights back.
thefirstavenger97 - 11/12/2012, 4:59 PM
Dang! More leather. :-(

Whatever they do - give the uniforms(?) some type of functionality. In First Class, they were essentially military jumpsuits. Honestly, I have faith that they have learned from their mistakes and can confidently approach the more "colorful" costumes from the comics. This is takes place in an apocalyptic setting, no? They HAVE to give the suits functionality - if they give them any uniform at all...
toco89 - 11/12/2012, 5:02 PM
@Josh

Good on ya mate, Cheers.

(I'm not australian LoL)
marvel72 - 11/12/2012, 5:02 PM
x-men first class had its moments but nothing mind blowing about the movie.i'm up for the sequel mainly for the sentinels & some of the original cast members returning.

can't stand the first class line up.

@ brazilianbatman

you think the x-men uniforms look better than wolverine classic comic costume & superman's costume from the superman quadrilogy.......

XD hahahahahahahahaha!
ACira - 11/12/2012, 5:03 PM
I loved First Class but it seems like DOFP is taking huge strides backward... I hope her costume designs are good this time around, wasn't a fan of the old X-Men trilogy costumes nor the Superman Returns suit...
95 - 11/12/2012, 5:07 PM
This - with YELLOW & BLUE:

ZombieOverEasy - 11/12/2012, 5:08 PM
Worst news since hearing Singer is on as director. I enjoyed the first 2 X-Men, but I enjoyed First Class so much more.

Hey, at least it's not X-3.
kevberg - 11/12/2012, 5:08 PM
Ok I like Singer most of the time , but GOOOODDDDDAAAMMNNNIIITTT!!!!!!

She Sucks...Im not a huge fan of First Class, but the GOT THE COSTUMES RIGHT! ( as right as you can get anyway)
95 - 11/12/2012, 5:09 PM
Okay. Not exactly like that ^ But that ^ and the First Class uniforms. Especially if this film has them battle frickin' Sentinels.
kevberg - 11/12/2012, 5:10 PM
I cannot believe Singer didn't learn from the successes of First Class.
DioFoRio - 11/12/2012, 5:11 PM
didn't she help on the new spider-man costume too?
subzero1077 - 11/12/2012, 5:12 PM
I hate Bryan Singer's costume designer. This is the worst piece of news I could've heard about this movie.
JerBear - 11/12/2012, 5:14 PM
As long as every character has a unique costume that at the same time has unity and looks uniform I'm good. They MUST have the blue/yellow/red X-Men color scheme though.
GLprime2814 - 11/12/2012, 5:17 PM
AW SHIT!
Funsize - 11/12/2012, 5:19 PM
This news is screaming leather suits at me.I liked Singer's X-men movies a lot but the suits really annoyed me.
kevberg - 11/12/2012, 5:20 PM
Its days of future past....I wanna see them attemptt a variant of Wolvies Brown and Yellow costume ( or hell..his X_FORCE versions) with modern touches...you CAN be faithful and be believable.

Louise Mingenbach just isn't very adventurous in her designs for this type of genre.
Pahenya - 11/12/2012, 5:21 PM
not good:(
faver - 11/12/2012, 5:22 PM
I didn't hate the original costumes, so I don't think it's a big deal. I mean, the classic costumes would hardly work on screen without looking silly. Even in The Avengers the costumes were kind of 'down to earth' (for the lack of a better word; english is not my first language)

I did like the costumes in First Class. I don't think it's necessary for the X-Men to have a 'black ops' vibe. At least not post-First Class. I could see it in a world more wary of the mutants, like in the original trilogy.
texasraven - 11/12/2012, 5:22 PM
if i see bryan singer walking down the street, im gonna take him out. this movie will fail just like the rest
OtakuPapi - 11/12/2012, 5:26 PM
Why?
ChubbyDeadpool - 11/12/2012, 5:28 PM
Doesn't Deadpool have a cameo in DOFP? Interesting to see how he looks, since the Deadpool movie calls for his comic book costume.
Starlight - 11/12/2012, 5:30 PM
That goes for those who STILL support Singer.... THE TRAITOR !!!
Vapes - 11/12/2012, 5:30 PM
The black leather was fine. Makes a whole lot more sense than bright spandex.

However, with how First Class was able to move things forward, hopefully this new film will take that into consideration.
SugarYumYum - 11/12/2012, 5:30 PM
Once Singer came back on, I lost complete and total faith in this movie so this news is neither surprising or of any consequence to me.
marvel72 - 11/12/2012, 5:34 PM
@ brazilianbatman

this costume in yellow & blue would work, you know if wolverine/the x-men rights were back at marvel studios they would at least attempt to put wolverine in costume.

parkerray - 11/12/2012, 5:41 PM
Hmm, at least he says "Much to do!" That can't mean recycling the same old leather crap, can it? Hope not.

Also, did some idiots miss Capt.A and the Avengers?? Why are there still arguments that Logan's yellow costume couldn't work? I like his brown one better anyway, but if they can do Cap and Thor, they could definitely pull off any Wolverine costume they want.
SuspenseSmith - 11/12/2012, 5:42 PM
They finally made the yellow costumes work... now they're gonna go backwards? why?

Seriously, First Class nailed it in the costume department... except for Emma Frost's wonder bra... wtf.
ATrueHero1987 - 11/12/2012, 5:42 PM
WTF?! If it's one thing y'all should like about X:FC is that the yellow & blue costumes CAN work! I hope Singer doesn't use the leather costumes again.
ATrueHero1987 - 11/12/2012, 5:44 PM
@Josh lol @ that pic. Joss was doing a jab at the movie costumes in that issue.
P862010 - 11/12/2012, 5:48 PM
@KamenRiderJ22 you really using that avengers gif to show bright colors?

first of all hawkeye is not wearing his classic costume and neither is thor who i might add is also not wearing his iconic helmet

and captain america looks like a damn fool he looks like a kid in cosplay cap avengers suit is awful
parkerray - 11/12/2012, 5:51 PM
@Kamen, YES! That first pic is the best CBM costume ever. Completely classic, completely functional.
Deadshot - 11/12/2012, 5:56 PM
[frick]! NOOOOOOOOOO NOT THE STUPID LEATHER COSTUMES AGAIN! AHHHH
Viltrumite - 11/12/2012, 6:02 PM
If he said they have a lot of work to do, I don't feel as if that means they're going back to the original all-black leather uniforms. He's most likely working with her due to the fact that they have collaborated before, and he feels more comfortable working with someone who knows what he's looking for, no matter what that may be. After fans responded positively to First Class, and considering that Days of Future Past is a sequel to that film, also taking into consideration that the MCU movies have shown close adaptations of the costumes can work, it's very likely that what he's looking for -isn't- more of the same. Don't be so quick to jump to conclusions; just wait and see.
If they go back to the black leather suits, I'll be pissed off alongside the rest of you.
