BOX OFFICE: SKYFALL Takes #2 In North America While RISE OF THE GUARDIANS Disappoints
With the critically acclaimed Killing Them Softly opening at #6 with a rare 'F' CinemaScore, it was down to the usual suspects to battle it out for the top spot this weekend in North America. Hit the jump for updates on all of the biggest releases!
There were no major new releases at the North American box office this weekend, meaning that holdover The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn Part 2 held on to the top spot with $5.4 million yesterday and a predicted weekend total of $16.5 million. In comparison, Skyfall was in second place with $4.8 and $16.2 million, giving it a domestic cume of $245.7 million. Meanwhile, DreamWorks Animation's Rise of the Guardians continues to under perform in what Wall Street have declared, "one of the most disappointing releases in the company’s history". So much so, it's actually put a dent in their share price and looks set to earn only $12.2 million this weekend. It was expected to earn upward of $55 million during Thanksgiving, but ended up with only $32.6 million.
