Both Vulture and Variety have (to my knowledge) a history of being reliable sources. I don't doubt that as of right now, Snyder isn't "officially" on the project, as in no contracts have been signed, hence his spokesperson's comment. However, spokespeople have been known to deny these sorts of things before only for it to turn out to be true later on; they simply don't want general moviegoers to have the full story until a later date. It'll probably be confirmed within a few month's time, maybe at Comic-Con or the Disney Expo.

Yeah I think that Snyder and/or LucasFilm are interested in the project, they just haven't officially signed a contract yet. Plus, the spokesperson wouldn't want to confirm something this big before an official announcement, hence the denial. That being said, I'm incredibly excited about this project. Sounds epic.

Have no real opinion on this honestly. Reps do lie and reporters do get false information, just waiting to see how this plays out.

how reliable is this "unnamed" rep? he got the name of the 300 sequel wrong.. it's Rise of An Empire..Snyder is only putting his name to that as a exc. producer has really nothing to do with it, isn't directing it or editing it.. Man of Steel will be locked by May-June.. it comes down to politics with Warner Bros. he's been doing films for the studio forever if he passes on Man of Steel 2 there could be some crazy blacklash..

Snyder is doing the Star Wars adaption. Snyder has a penchent for lying. Remember when he denied Zod was in MOS? Yeah...

Actually, just remaking all those Kurosawa films that inspired Star Wars, into new Star Wars films, would be an upgrade from straight up Hollywood remakes in general. Michael Shannon could play a Sith without a suit, horns, or makeup.

The movie idea sounds great, but this back and forth is getting confusing.

Even that quote on Twitter from that reporter for Variety sounds 50/50.
WarnerBrother
WarnerBrother - 1/14/2013, 9:29 PM
I think Snyder's people shot this down so fast because he is up for Justice League if MOS is a hit and he doesn't want to piss WB off.

Sure he may have had a meeting at one point with Lucasfilm to pitch an idea for a Star Wars film but nobody can provide evidence that Lucasfilm hired him on the spot to develop his pitch, much less, produce and or direct such a film.

Having meeting with people happens all the time in Hollywood and much of the time its just that,a meeting that doesn't get any further then that.

Its great that Snyder would be included among so many other visionary genre directors of his generation for a possible role in Star Wars, but nothing here backs up Vultures original claim that Snyder was working on a Star Wars spinoff.

If we are to believe that Snyder had a meeting with Lucas film, made a pitch and was told "we'll get back to you." that doesn't add up to Snyder getting the job on a Star Wars spin off.

Superman in a cloak with a lightsaber cutting star destroyers in half! Night owl piloting his airship down the death star trench! Baby doll using the jedi mind trick! So much fun to be had!

BTW,

WB likely has an option on Snyder's services to direct the MOS sequel if the studio wants one. That option would take priority over a Star Wars film.

@fettastic

Bare in mind that Singer didn't leave WB. In fact he was developing the Superman Returns sequel that would have been called "The Man of Steel."

Singer was set to direct that film when "The Dark Knight" came out and WB decided to go dark and gritty with it's DC films. Singer was cut loose by WB which decided to overhaul the cinematic Superman vs continuing the Donner version.

Singer went on to develop 'Jack the Giant Slayer" for New Line (WB) but the project was held up for awhile and Singer used the time to mend fences with FOX and develop X-Men First class.

FOX liked his pitch and hired him to direct First class, but WB put Giant slayer on the fast track and forced Singer to bow out as director.

I would expect the same thing to happen if Snyder tried to bolt out to do a Star Wars film.
CCB1984
CCB1984 - 1/14/2013, 9:46 PM
@fettastic actually it might be just his concept.. Lawrence Kasdan (Raiders, Jedi, Empire) and Simon Kinberg (X-Men Days of Future Past) have been hired to write/produce these Star Wars spin-offs.. wouldn't be shocked to see Kasdan to write this project for Snyder..

With Disney in control of Star Wars and paying a pretty heavy penny for the rights we can expect to see spin off after spin off after spin off for a long long time to come...

Nothing new here...
