They were cut from 2009's Star Trek and have been rumoured to make an appearance in this May's Star Trek Into Darkness, but the cover of Countdown To Darkness offers up our best look at the villains yet and may just confirm their role in the sequel.

There have been rumblings that we'll see the Klingons return in Star Trek Into Darkness after they were cut from the first instalment of J.J. Abrams' rebooted franchise, and the cover of IDW's Countdown To Darkness offers up our best look at the villains yet. While this isn't confirmation that they will indeed make an appearance in the highly anticipated sequel, this certainly seems like a good indication that they will indeed play some sort of role in Into Darkness. The prequel comic book series is written by Mike Johnson and includes a story by Roberto Orci and art by David Messina. The fourth and final issue goes on sale in April. "While this isn't confirmation that they will indeed make an appearance in the highly anticipated sequel"

Weren't the Klingons AND even their homeworld Kronos all shown in the official trailer?

They even showed the Klingons battling Cumberbatch's character

;P

Abrams' Klingons are pretty sweet!

RorMachine - 1/17/2013, 5:08 PM
Huh! Where did those pics come from?
CCB1984 - 1/17/2013, 5:09 PM
apparently, people say that they look pretty much like the ones we're used to from the original films.. and aren't as odd looking as the concept makeup from the first film..
CCB1984 - 1/17/2013, 5:10 PM
@RorMachine posted on my blog Celluloid and Cigarette Burns a while back
CCB1984 - 1/17/2013, 5:11 PM
@RorMachine they are carrying the same guns used by Harrison (Cumberbatch) in the trailer..so it indeed is an image from Into Darkness..
SmellofDuty - 1/17/2013, 5:12 PM

marvel72 - 1/17/2013, 5:26 PM

@ ccb1984

CCB1984 - 1/17/2013, 5:28 PM
@tomontherun99 only thing from the first image in the comments.. you can tell the makeup people had overhauled their faces..which is likely why they were cut out of the film.. from what I hear they look like what we're used to klingons looking like..
Maximus101 - 1/17/2013, 5:30 PM
I was thinking the same thing, I never noticed those pictures yet.
CCB1984 - 1/17/2013, 5:30 PM
@marvel72 do you speak of this image of klingon warbird in the trailer?

CCB1984 - 1/17/2013, 5:32 PM
I haven't seen his scenes but I wouldn't be shocked if Noel Clarke was a klingon..

CCB1984 - 1/17/2013, 5:36 PM
check out these cryotubes.. if Harrison isn't really Khan he must be his brother or something..lol

Optimus1983 - 1/17/2013, 5:39 PM
Looks alot like Cylons to me
LP4 - 1/17/2013, 5:40 PM
@CCB1984- The image of the klingons you posted weren't from Into Darkness. That was from the 2009 film.

marvel72 - 1/17/2013, 5:40 PM
@ CCB1984

yeah mate thats the one.
IIIAdamantiumIII - 1/17/2013, 5:59 PM
they look like shedder
Vadakin - 1/17/2013, 6:39 PM
Well given that Enterprise is in continuity, there's really three looks the Klingons can have...eh...if Abrams hasn't abandoned continuity that is.

Look 1: Proper, full ridged Klingons.
Look 2: Human-looking eugenic mutants as seen in the original series.
Look 3: A hybrid of the two, from cross breeding between the two groups.
SuperJoe - 1/17/2013, 7:31 PM
there are klingons around uranus
Brady1138 - 1/17/2013, 8:34 PM
Does anyone else think of orcs from LOTR when they see these?
Gr8Frappe - 1/17/2013, 10:14 PM
Let me get this straight. He made the Klingons into The Shredder?!?
mgeoff88 - 1/18/2013, 12:08 AM
They look good. The masks make the Klingons look more menacing IMO.
gaikinger - 1/18/2013, 12:19 AM
I really dug the depiction of Klingons in the first 10 minutes of Star Trek the Motion Picture battling the VGER cloud and just seeming like total berzerkers.....its been downhill from there.
Nomis1800 - 1/18/2013, 1:48 AM
We already saw benedict shoot a Klingon in the trailer.
LordCole - 1/18/2013, 3:59 AM
@CCB1984 Warbird is Romulan, Bird of Prey was also a smaller Klingon vessel which would fit this image except this is way to small. Unless this is some smaller combat type shuttle they came up with for the movie; Which, if this is the case, I am slightly bothered by the use of "fighters" in Star Trek even though they used them in TNG while Crusher was in the Academy.
VinzClortho - 1/18/2013, 4:14 AM
Shredder is bad, Klingons REALLY bad. My poop... BAAAAAAAD!
riseofloganX36 - 1/18/2013, 7:12 AM
looks like compleat garbage to me. Ok yeah that's a klingon.
HRDWYR - 1/18/2013, 7:34 AM
All of these changes in this alternate timeline because of one ship of romulan miners? They must of really got around in the 25 years they were stranded to affect so much of the galaxy, heh heh.
JackBauer - 1/18/2013, 7:45 AM
@LordCole - Fighters were also used by Starfleet during the Dominion War on DS9.
Rothwilder - 1/18/2013, 9:35 AM
@CCB1984

I think Ror is planning to have you killed for outscooping the scoop
