More From Bryan Singer On X-MEN: DAYS OF FUTURE PAST; "It Has A Lot Of Aspects Of The Comic"

Following his comments on time travel (scroll a little further down the front page for that), X-Men: Days of Future Past director Bryan Singer now discusses how closely the movie will stick to the comic books, which past X-movies it takes an influence from and promises more swearing from Hugh Jackman!

"It has a lot of aspects of the comic," teased X-Men: Days of Future Past director Bryan Singer in a recent interview with Empire Online. However, he was quick to point out that that doesn't necessarily mean fans should expect a direct adaptation of the beloved storyline! "The actual comic of Days Of Future Past had a whole ton of stuff going on, so it’s like any of these things; you have to distill it. But I think the fans will be pleased that some of the most exciting parts of Days Of Future Past are going to be connected to this movie."

Many of those same comic book fans would surely be happier if the prequel/sequel skipped over duds like X-Men: The Last Stand and X-Men Origins: Wolverine, but that WON'T be the case. "I’m taking into account every movie – I’m not just grabbing my first two movies and First Class and smashing them together. I’m taking into account the entire universe as it’s been laid out so far on the screen, and really respecting it and trying to work with that. People took things in various directions, so there’s some clean-up," he confessed. "But ultimately I’m not just ignoring them either."

"I’ll be using Twitter as an avenue," Singer added when asked about his decision to share casting details with his followers on the social media website. "I think Twitter is an amazing thing. Very often something gets out there in the rumour-sphere, and people start building up an impression of something that might not be right. So what I want to do is just little by little drop out whatever information is official." Finally, we know that Wolverine will return, but will his potty mouth? (as seen in X-Men: First Class) ""We’re going to have another one in this one. We have another one coming up!"

MARVELPSYCHO79 - 1/28/2013, 9:45 AM
In Robert DeNiro's voice:"You,You,You".
ATrueHero1987 - 1/28/2013, 10:02 AM
I think NOT skipping over or erasing X-Men: The Last Stand, is going to come back & kick them in the ass later on. Hmmm, still don't know how I feel about this movie though.

SN: I wonder if we will see the grave site of the F4 since this is a "shared" universe now?
MatchesMalone - 1/28/2013, 10:02 AM
I second blvdnoise's comment.
DrDoom - 1/28/2013, 10:03 AM

Master Mold is judging you, Mr. Singer.

Seems like he's cramming too much, but still sounds interesting nonetheless.

Bring back Cyclops!!! Please!!!

marvel72 - 1/28/2013, 10:24 AM

Luis75 - 1/28/2013, 10:27 AM
Singer, this Movie better have a bad-ass Cyclops in it.
HavocPrime - 1/28/2013, 10:29 AM
Introging, but more info required before an opinion can be made.
MARVELPSYCHO79 - 1/28/2013, 10:31 AM
@marvel72 They better have Sentinels and they better be 20 feet, and they better not look like shite. The best thing about watching Terminator:Salvation was seeing the giant robots.I was thinking the whole time I'm ready to see the X-Men fight the Sentinels. But this is Fox and co. so........
Allura - 1/28/2013, 10:36 AM
With XM 1st Class, the X-Men continuity was chucked out the window so I don't see how this will make the sequel any better. If anything it probably will confuse the heck out of everyone.
BrotherStarkofMABMindz - 1/28/2013, 10:37 AM
This will dominate all the other X-Men films
Ranger14 - 1/28/2013, 10:38 AM
"I’m taking into account the entire universe as it’s been laid out so far on the screen, and really respecting it and trying to work with that. People took things in various directions, so there’s some clean-up,"

Considering that the director and producer of First Class said that the prior film universes had nothing to do with First Class (even though they threw in a couple cameos to appease the fans), he has lots of fixing to do.

You can throw in aspects of the comic, but at the same time make that meaningless by everything else you choose to throw in.
DrDoom - 1/28/2013, 10:38 AM
Earth-10005 is doomed.
FennecPilot - 1/28/2013, 10:39 AM
AHHhhhHHHHh! AhhahhhahHHHHhhHHAAAHHHHH! HE DIDN'T SAY IT WAS ALL ON THE COMICS. HE ONLY SAID A LOT OF IT!!!! AhhhahHAHHAHHHHHHHH AHHHHHHHHHHH AHHHHHHH!!! Eff Singer.....EFF IT ALLL....SHIT MOVIE......AHHHHH AHHH AHHHHHHHH.....

That's what we get. Jesus, wait until the friggin' movie comes out before you crucify Singer or the movie.
Taboggon - 1/28/2013, 10:41 AM
I'm still distraught that Anna Paquin is returning as Rogue,

Can't stop crying...
2gold - 1/28/2013, 10:42 AM
I don't know, I like what he is saying so far. Maybe the guy realizes this is a huge scale universe that could set him up with movies for life if he handles them well? He has to see the Marvel money and it's starting to click that when done right, these things can be huge. Now just announce the return of Kelsey Grammar as Beast and I'm all in!
TheRealRemyLebeau - 1/28/2013, 10:43 AM
Bet u movie starts out like terminator and the old team meets up with new Xavier and magneto.
Spidey91 - 1/28/2013, 10:43 AM
just confirm already that there will be Sentinels in it :P
ACira - 1/28/2013, 10:47 AM
How does this work then? In making First Class, Matthew Vaughn ignored Origins: Wolverine and The Last Stand, so how can a sequel to that film reinstate those two to continuity? I know there's the time travel stuff, but that'd only work if they traveled to before First Class and showed them changing the continuity of the original trilogy to become First Class, which would be pointless anyway - it should've been done then, not now. Might as well just pretend the two worst films didn't happen. Better yet, they could've just treated First Class as a reboot.
Deathlok - 1/28/2013, 10:50 AM
I don't understand why someone new can't come in and do a fresh take on the whole x-men universe. How many Batman reiterations have their been? How many Superman reiterations? Hell, we even have a new Spider-man universe. Somebody needs to tell Hugh Jackman to leave Wolverine alone and for Bryan Singer to piss off and go find another franchise to ruin.
caveman - 1/28/2013, 10:56 AM
What LEVITIKUZ said.
Fogs - 1/28/2013, 11:00 AM
Hope it's any good.
Milling - 1/28/2013, 11:03 AM
anna paquin as rogue...... bad choice
FOOM - 1/28/2013, 11:03 AM
I really think Mr Singer is really enjoying making this film. And that should only be a good thing for everyone involved. Fingers crossed.
TheRealRemyLebeau - 1/28/2013, 11:05 AM
REMEMBER:
X-MEN 1- SABERTOOTH didn't know wolverine, storm flew once in elevator & had Wack accent, wolverine got his ass beat by mystique, rogue was useless, yeah she stopped mags I know. Overall 2013 terms a o.k. movie

X-MEN 2- mystique didn't know rogue or nightcrawler, pyro was Wack, rogue & iceman were useless, cyclops relegated to 2nd tier character, basically a wolverine backstory movie, beast was on t.v. as human and fanboys don't explain it away if movie doesn't. Jean was watered down, storm watered down, wolverine watered down. Magneto should have been more angry than he was = watered down. Overall 2013 terms minor improvement action wise, so o.k. x 2.

This is the director of xmen days of future past.
spidey1994 - 1/28/2013, 11:09 AM

Come on Singer, we want Cyclops!
Jackraow21 - 1/28/2013, 11:15 AM
One of the most exciting parts of the DoFP comic was when Wolverine got roasted down to a skeleton and killed by a Sentinel, so I hope we get to see that on the big screen!
DeathstrokeRulez469 - 1/28/2013, 11:16 AM
I don't see how DOFP is going to crossover into the other X-Men movies.Unless it's only going to crossover with Singer's movies and ignore Origins and The Last Stand. This X-Men movie series is a mind (frick).
Spideyguy94 - 1/28/2013, 11:17 AM
@LEVITIKUZ You want bishop in days of future past? He wasn't even created until 10 years after days of future past was published. And adding bishop to a film with already a lot of characters in what will probably be a complicated plot isn't a smart move.
TheRealRemyLebeau - 1/28/2013, 11:17 AM
X-MEN 3: multipleman useless, juggernaut didn't know Xavier and he was a mutant, psylocke was some throw away lackey, angel useless, phoenix jean supersoaker watered down, cyclops thrown away crying WHAAAAAT!? iceman threesome relationship not needed and Wack, where the hell was Polaris smh, rogue basically quit xmen team, Xavier killed off, mystique was useless, colossus vs juggernaut never happened, too many random mutants used. 2013 terms absolutly GARBAGE JUICE, but action was better than first two.
ATrueHero1987 - 1/28/2013, 11:22 AM
Also, since the F4 reboot is going to share the same universe as X-Men, is the reboot going to be an origin film or the early years of F4? Because Franklin Richards name pops up in X2, so how are they going to explain that?
TheRealRemyLebeau - 1/28/2013, 11:33 AM
Wolverine orgins and First Class: gambit with no cajun accent & black and red eyes, deadpool super dupa Wack, blob useless and he got fat cuz he got lazy? Will I am was super Wack. Wolverine was soft the entire movie trying to stop victor, victor & Logan brothers? What the hell happen to the real weapon x program characters: maverick, silver fox, sabertooth,Logan. Emma frost little sister to silver fox? Banshee a kid with no Irish accent and he eventually supposed to fall in love with moira mctaggert, she doesn't have accent like she did in x3. Mystique and Xavier were foster brother and sister!? (Insert Cain marko please) havok is born before cyclops, beast was skinny and Wack, azazel and mystique don't get close (how is nightcrawler born?) Good shaw but wrong look. Emma frost was grown women when we just saw her as a kid. 2013 terms GARBAGE JUICE with a side of Shit & piss.
Jollem - 1/28/2013, 11:52 AM

shadearts - 1/28/2013, 11:54 AM
I'm not the biggest fan of Singer's X-men movies but i am a big X-men comic book fan but maybe after Singer seeing what happens when you bring a superhero team to screen and it makes billions and the Avengers were not saleing as much as the X-men in comics he has realized the potential the X-men has I will give it a try one more time but if this movie is anything like or less then the others I am done with x-men until marvel gets the rights back
lntrn8 - 1/28/2013, 11:56 AM
"It Has A Lot Of Aspects Of The Comic"
Translation: I completely ignored the comics not once, but 3 times as a director in X-Men, X2, Superman Returns
jimoakley666 - 1/28/2013, 12:03 PM
I wonder if he's going to introduce Apocalypse and Sinister as the villains, mix AOA with DOFP, and use that as a way to bring back Cyclops and Jean.
shadearts - 1/28/2013, 12:05 PM
In other words Singer step your game up you saw last year the right way how to make a A superhero team movie you have no more excuses
Jollem - 1/28/2013, 12:16 PM
^i saw the right way to make a superhero team movie when i saw tmnt 1 in the theater. team movies aren't anything new :)
elessarundomiel2382 - 1/28/2013, 12:16 PM
If theyre keeping the original sequel concept of Kennedy's assassination.....and Singer meaning the cast of characters from all movies. i could see the brotherhood consisting of Magneto, White Queen, Mystique, Blob, Toad, Sabretooth, Azazel trying to assassinate him. Which causes the future timeline to go into chaos.

First Class:- Havok, Banshee, Beast.....maybe Cyclops and Jean. And heres hoping Bishop.

The Future X-men:- Cyclops, Jean, Wolverine, Iceman, Rogue, Shadowcat, Nightcrawler, Angel, Colossus, Beast, Gambit, Professor X, Banshee.......all die except Wolverine and Shadowcat
Shadowelfz - 1/28/2013, 12:27 PM
"It has a lot of aspects of the comic,"

Well thats going to be a refreshing change for the X-Men franchise, hmm?
shadearts - 1/28/2013, 12:38 PM
@jollem I agree TMNT is a good blueprint so is the Avengers you know what those movies have in common that the X-men movies are lacking TEAM. TMNT & Avengers allowed each one of there heros share the spotlight and not be supporting cast unlike all the X-men movies bc even in X-Men FC it was all about Magneto
Mentok - 1/28/2013, 12:43 PM
This franchise is a mess...REBOOT!
skidz - 1/28/2013, 12:44 PM
Interesting. It sounds like he's cherry picking the few relevant aspects of The Last Stand (Xavier and Cyclops dying are part of DOFP in the comics) to maintain a connection.
hope420 - 1/28/2013, 12:46 PM
It would be awesome if they showed future Wolverine get killed by a Sentinel!!!!
TheRealRemyLebeau - 1/28/2013, 12:56 PM
Even if this movie is good. I expect my marvel movie blu ray collection to be pristine with an allowable blemish. Xmen franchise is just not holding up or have too many inconsistency.
