Sam Witwer has become something of a Star Wars veteran over recent years, lending his voice and likeness to "Starkiller" (Darth Vader's secret apprentice after the events of the prequels) in The Force Unleashed video game series and also voicing Darth Maul in The Clone Wars animated series. Talking to IGN Movies recently, the actor had this to say about possibly returning for a third instalment of The Force Unleashed and whether he would have any interest in finally taking on a live action role in J.J. Abrams' Star Wars: Episode VII. More from the actor can be found by clicking on the link below. Would you like to see Witwer in a live-action Star Wars movie?

On Whether We Will See A Third Instalment Of The Force Unleashed:

I would certainly be open to it. The thing is, right now, Lucasfilm needs to concentrate on this little thing called Star Wars: Episode VII. If I'm them, that's where my focus goes right now, and it has to. It's the most important thing they have coming up in the future. The Clone Wars is already successful. Now Disney has to prove themselves with the ownership of the franchise. Kathleen Kennedy needs to shepherd that into some far-reaching stuff. In terms of cold, business, financial matters, The Force Unleashed series is extraordinarily viable. It did very, very well. We also have that third part of the story that Haden Blackman and I have talked about that's really wonderful. I think that you could see us round back to it and finish it up, but it would obviously be for the next generation of console systems, certainly not this one. And it would have to be after Episode VII. It just has to be that way. Lucasfilm is the kind of company that puts all of its resources behind the project they’re working on at the time. So, really, that's where I'd put my resources if I were Lucasfilm.

On Exactly How Much He Knows About Star Wars: Episode VII:

You know, a little bit. I knew that there was another Star Wars movie coming maybe eight months before everyone else did, but what I didn't know was that it was Episode VII... There have been a lot of surprises, and then also, again, information finds itself my way because I'm under NDA of the company. It's funny, because there was an audition for a very important role in an upcoming Clone Wars season, and I was suggesting some friends of mine read for the role -- and I was also reading for the role. So a friend of mine came in, and they're like, "Okay, get ready to read this." They kind of just threw him a script, and he was like, "Wait, I didn't know that I was reading for this character!" It was a well-known character. And they said, "Didn't Sam tell you?" This is my best friend, and he said, "No, he didn't." I was like, "Well of course I didn't tell him!" [Laughs] "That's your job, Dave Filoni! You're Lucasfilm, dammit! I'll send actors your way, but I'm not going to tell them why. That's your job." So because of that, information does sometimes find its way to me, and people know that it's not going to go any further -- under penalty of death.

On His Interest In Taking On A Live-Action Role In Star Wars: Episode VII:

I would kill for the opportunity to just be in the room and audition, honestly. I really feel like, in a weird way, I've put my time in and I'm ready for that type of opportunity. I've portrayed a lot of Star Wars characters, and they've been very different from each other. It wasn't just me being a fan and feeling like, "Okay, I'm ready to do this role!" No, that wasn't good enough. I had to go and watch 1940s movies and Casablanca and Double Indemnity and The Killing and all this stuff that George Lucas would have watched when he was younger. You know, even the 1930s serials like Flash Gordon. It's all stuff where Star Wars came from -- the Kurosawa films, all these things. All of that research informed how I approached these roles, and fans seem to think that it feels right. If it does, it's because I feel like I've made an effort to try to understand George Lucas and where this stuff comes from. I wouldn't feel comfortable just shooting from the hip because Star Wars is too important to me, so I did my homework. I feel like if J.J. Abrams was like, "Yeah, let's call in Sam Witwer for an audition," I'd feel like I could do a pretty good job in that audition room, because I think I understand this stuff. I think I know how you'd perform it, whether it's a big bad evil guy or one of the protagonists. So that's my personal opinion. [Laughs] I don't know if that holds any weight in terms of the people that are in the room right now, but yeah. I feel that I could do a decent job with it.

elcaballerooscuro92 - 2/20/2013, 8:30 AM
this guy knows what he's talking about and his recent work makes you forget about the doomsday fiasco
HeadPool420 - 2/20/2013, 8:31 AM
Damn it! I gotta work today or I'd dig out my old system and be playing the Force Unleashed 1&2 and Battlefront 2 all day! Oh we'll off to work.
theInvincibleMexiMan - 2/20/2013, 8:35 AM
Totally agree with Levitikuz, a force unleashed movie would be badass.
PsyGuy - 2/20/2013, 8:40 AM
He'd be great! I'd love to see him in live action.
peppy - 2/20/2013, 8:44 AM
This guy defiently has to be in episode 7 weather it be a Jedi or a sith , has to be one of the main characters
IIIAdamantiumIII - 2/20/2013, 8:48 AM
TFU were fun games
BackwardGalaxy - 2/20/2013, 8:54 AM
They already did a Force Unleashed movie... it's the video game. And there were two of them. Do you really want a rehash of what we've already seen?
thewolfx - 2/20/2013, 8:59 AM
Sam is awesome i wish hed play batman or the darkness
Tainted87 - 2/20/2013, 8:59 AM
He definitely knows his trade. I'm actually impressed. Before this guy was just a guest star loser on the first season of Dexter (I didn't watch Smallville), and not having played the Force Unleashed, he was just a random fancast around these parts. Sounds like a smart guy.
Gmoney84 - 2/20/2013, 9:02 AM
I'd love to see Sam in the new trilogy. He was great in Battlestar Galactica and is awesome in Being Human.
ndwwrestler2 - 2/20/2013, 9:12 AM
Why did they let Grif come back again?
Greengo - 2/20/2013, 9:13 AM
@grif: Come on... what do you REALLY think?
Jer3miah - 2/20/2013, 9:16 AM
They need to stop making Force Unleashed. Part one was amazing, but part 2 was horrible. Lack of story and one of the shortest gameplay run time I've ever hit in a game. I don't see how much more they can milk from a story not in canon and already running its course.
TheDudeRises - 2/20/2013, 9:20 AM
I'm 100% against any Star Wars big screen adaptation. If you want that then go watch just about any other movie out today, Star Wars is all about exciting original stories. This is STAR WARS not Twilight, or Hunger Games, or goddamn Harry Potter. STAR f*!@ing WARS.
StarkAnthony - 2/20/2013, 9:22 AM
He can't really be in the movie unless he is under heavy makeup or mocap because he already gave his appearance to Starkiller. Not that the new movies should address TFU, but it would be odd. He also does multiple voices in The Clone Wars
AC1 - 2/20/2013, 9:24 AM
@BackwardGalaxy I hate it when people say stuff like that. Video Games and movies are as different from each other as they are from TV shows, literature and comic books. Elements of themselves are all lent to each other, and it's true that video games are starting to look more cinematic, but they're still not the same thing. For one thing, if they were to make a Force Unleashed movie, they'd need to add a hell of a lot of story because there's very little in the video game.

@ndwwrestler2 because Grif is the heart and soul of this website.
ndwwrestler2 - 2/20/2013, 9:25 AM
@TheDudeRises You are absolutely right, It's not Twilight, Hunger Games, or Harry Potter. It's Star Wars, it's something we love, so if they can do it right, why wouldn't we want to see more?

@Jer3miah I thought part 2 was great...but just too darn short. I think they can do better with the third one, and with the ending in the second one, they really really need to make an ending for the story.
ItsNotASchooner - 2/20/2013, 9:26 AM
He'd be great in the new Star Wars films. I bet you could even have Starkiller in EpVII, doesn't the force prolong life?
ndwwrestler2 - 2/20/2013, 9:26 AM
@ACira No....I mean for real? Why did they let him back on?
JULEZ13 - 2/20/2013, 9:37 AM
I'd LOVE to see Sam Witwer on the big screen! Star Wars needs some good eye candy damnit!!
SolidSnake007 - 2/20/2013, 9:39 AM
After Force Unleashed 2 there should never be another one.
ndwwrestler2 - 2/20/2013, 9:50 AM
@Gusto
Rothwilder - 2/20/2013, 9:54 AM
TFU Part 1 was a very good story and deserves to be canon. Part 2 was ill thought out and the last boss battle was insultingly easy.
Bark4Soul - 2/20/2013, 9:56 AM
LOL does anyone even care about Grif's same stupid reply each time on every thread? The answer is no..

Moving on, I think since he (Galen) ended up being such a huge part of the SW mythos, they should at least mention him in some way in the new movies since he is now "canon" and is responsible for (SPOILERS)

Azrael725 - 2/20/2013, 10:26 AM
@MrMxyzptlk: Force Unleashed 1 is canon as declared by George Lucas himself. FU2 could be canon as long as they finish it off with FU3. They first game was great and the second was better in every way . . . except that is was too damn short. There wasnt any meat to the story and it was very rushed. Lucasarts screwed over the project and that's why Haden Blackman left.

Sam deserves to be in a live action Star Wars. he is a great actor and he loves Star Wars so why not? Come on, Lucasfilm!I'm glad somebody finally asked him about FU3.
TheRedSkull - 2/20/2013, 10:49 AM
Starkiller! Make the movie!
Christuffer - 2/20/2013, 11:01 AM
Just make the game longer next time, please.

And I would love to see a Starkiller movie. As a matter of fact, cast him in a KoTOR movie as Atton or something. Possibly the Exile? Who knows, he's a good actor and he could probably do anything.
grifdeadpoolteabag - 2/20/2013, 11:07 AM
Sam,

1. For all intents and purposes, Lucasfilm doesn't exist anymore.
2. J.J. Abrams doesn't know who you are, sorry dude.

Grif,

Love you, man.
ndwwrestler2 - 2/20/2013, 11:14 AM
@grifdeadpoolteabag Lucasfilm does still exist, what are you talking about?

I've never heard JJ Abrams talk about Sam Witwer, So I'm not sure if he knows or not about him.

BlueHawaiiSurfer - 2/20/2013, 11:32 AM
Grif has just proven he doesn't deserve a seat at the table for this discussion. That being said watch the trailers for these games on YouTube. They could make an amazing movie out of this.
Bandrews1 - 2/20/2013, 11:32 AM
This guy is awesome on Being Human and I wouldn't mind seeing him in Episode VII. Also am I the only one that wants to see him in a superhero role? I think he has the acting chops, but I just don't know who he would be perfect for.
ndwwrestler2 - 2/20/2013, 12:08 PM

yingyangpalms - 2/20/2013, 12:20 PM
Can't really care too much about more Star Wars after the prequels or the never-ending Clone Wars but as Ive said Witwer deserves to be in the film if he wishes.
I could see him playing the son of Chewie and Leia or Han and Leia.

If you saw his work on Smallville you get a great idea on how he wouldve played Anakin and he may have saved Episode 3 Revenge Of The Crying Bitch.
mikefont - 2/20/2013, 12:42 PM
LMFAO Gusto...that pic is hilarious!
Jer3miah - 2/20/2013, 1:36 PM
@wrestler2:
I dunno. The story in part 2 felt dry and it wasn't structured properly. I can tell they were running out of ideas. They just shouldn't have killed off Starkiller in part 1 while anticipating a sequel. Part 1 in itself was pretty much perfect, story, length, game play, etc. But part 2 suffers from a lack of cohesive plot structure.
Skyhawk - 2/20/2013, 2:23 PM
Who wouldn't want to see a movie based on TFU franchise? I've started a pettition to see how many "of us" is around the world. I know that fan pettition probably won't change any of Disney's authorities but... Hey, it's internet right?
Vote please: https://www.change.org/petitions/the-walt-disney-company-walt-disney-pictures-consider-screening-of-the-video-game-star-wars-the-force-unleashed#

I'd buy tickets today for force u leashed

And Hamil should play new sithlord
IDKwhatToChoose - 2/20/2013, 4:06 PM
Grif rocks solely for the few instances that he loves a movie, comic, television series or whatever. And for his ability to rile everyone up over a comment that does not matter. Its good to see him, and Gusto back!!!
arashini - 2/20/2013, 8:40 PM
This guy's great.

Ever since the first time I saw him in a minor role on Dexter, I thought he had potential.
