Kevin Feige Offers DOCTOR STRANGE Update; Hints At Post 2015 "Phase 3" Release Date

Marvel Studios President Kevin Feige reveals that they are actively working on "trying to crack" a Doctor Strange movie and that we should probably expect to see the film as part of "Phase 3" following The Avengers 2 and Ant-Man.

In an interview with Collider, Kevin Feige has revealed that a Doctor Strange movie is most definitely on Marvel Studios' radar and quite possibly even set for release as soon as 2016 or 2017. When he was asked about whether they're actively working on a big screen adaptation for the Sorcerer Supreme, he said: "Dr. Strange is something that I talk about often and it’s sort of next up for us to dig into and explore. Our executive producer of Iron Man 3, having done Captain America: The First Avenger and as that was finishing he started working on the bones that would become Iron Man 3, and now that he’s finished with Iron Man 3, he’s working on the bones that would become Doctor Strange. Now that Iron Man 3 is finished, some of our quote-unquote spare time is going to be devoted to trying to crack Strange." Of course, what most fans will REALLY want to know is not if, but WHEN we will finally see the character join the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Luckily, Feige had an answer for that as well! "As we look past 2015, past Avengers 2 and Ant-Man, I think Dr. Strange should be one of the next movies in the years following that." So, mark it down in your calendars comic book movie fans!

Cool, can't wait to see Dr. Strange. Not really a main Avenger though... Probably going to be the GotG of Phase 3 (Same universe but not an essential team member). They will need as many team members as possible if they are going up against Thanos/Villain stronger than Thanos in Avengers 3...

In 2016.... I get Dormammu on the big screen?

I think by the end of the summer, we'll know exactly when its coming out.

The action should all take place in other dimensions and the suspense and plot builds should take place in the regular plane. Kind of like the Matrix. That's how you crack it.
charlie2094 - 5/3/2013, 12:52 PM
Kind of guessed this, but great to hear Fiege say it at least. Love the character so can't wait for him to appear on film, should be great!
Ocelot - 5/3/2013, 12:52 PM
just hope they dont make him a shield agent, or a paranormal shield investigator because that's what I think they're going to do with him

We'll be very interesting in seeing how this works out. I want to see Dr. Strange, Black Panther, Ant-Man and Wasp introduced by the third Avengers film. If they continue movies after Phase 3 I would like to see Namor and Vision brought to the big screen.
Dunejedi - 5/3/2013, 12:56 PM
I REALLY hope they nail his look, and the whole visual look of the film, for that matter. Call Steve Ditko! BRING ON DORMAMMU!
DrDoom - 5/3/2013, 12:58 PM
BTW

Dormammu better look like this:

Done right, this could be really fantastic. I wonder if Strange will see Bale up in the Himalayas

Dormammu on the big screen? That thought alone is worth the admission.
DrStrange - 5/3/2013, 1:03 PM
Can't wait for a Dr Strange cameo! (In Captain America 2 or Avengers 2?)

Ive got a feeling this is gonna be a flop....if we end up with Doctor Strange and Black Panther...phase 3 is looking totally lame. :-(

Don't understand why you couldn't do a magical Mandarin, if you're introducing Strange.

SMH Marvel
SugarYumYum - 5/3/2013, 1:10 PM
So much Marvel news this week. [frick] YES. Warner/DC please be the same way when MOS comes out.

Agreed with @ABARy. I'd like for Strange to be more focused on the magic elements of the Marvel movieverse rather than be a essential team member. He can enter when they're facing a big enough threat.

Keep it going. Each one of those produced a hearty LOL from me. Lovitz!

I think they should make Baron Mordo the main villain for the first Dr Strange film and save Dormammu for the 2nd. They definitely should build up the D man and show him as a tease at the very end before the credits. However, with the first one being an origin story, a beginning Dr Strange just isn't ready to fight Dormammu yet. I would actually place him at #3 in Marvel's most powerful villains next to only Thanos and Galactus.
SugarYumYum - 5/3/2013, 1:12 PM
@oliverttom: Doubt BP is happening in Phase 3. My money's on that it's going to be the kick off movie for Phase 4.

Phase 3:

-Doctor Strange
-Black Panther
-Heroes For Hire
-Ms. Marvel

I would be surprised if we don't get the last one for Phase 3, I mean so far It's clear for anyone that Marvel loves to take big risks but after seeing a movie about a talking racoon from space and a magician super hero it would be Strange that they keep avoidin doing a super hero movie with a female lead.

@ Ocelot

BITE YOUR TONGUE! Don't even joke about something like that. They'll hear you. The Comic-Book-Movie-Corps' mantra is, "We have to make it more realistic or it won;t work on the big screen!"
and,
"Stop whining! It's only a movie!"
We need to remain strong.
Dr. Strange strong!
TheRedSkull - 5/3/2013, 1:27 PM
About time we got a almost definitive release date of sorts. Should be unique and different

@TheRealRemyLebeau

Well, the build up could start with Ms. Marvel, and probably end with The Avengers 3 or 4, probably 4 because we already had aliens in the first one.

Dr. Strange shouldn't be an Avenger. I'd say do an Iron Fist movie, and another Hulk movie then do a Defenders movie.

It would be cool to see Hulk interact with another team. Plus you know people are going to see it. Because of just one thing.

HULK!

Everyone loved Hulk in Avengers they wouldn't miss him in another film.
KrazyForKomix - 5/3/2013, 1:34 PM
HOLY CRAP! Is that Jerimiah Johson?!?!?
Way to go! Nice '70's callback!
KrazyForKomix - 5/3/2013, 1:36 PM
@ Superotherside

Defenders IS the way to go with your third wave heroes.
Perfect.
