ATTACK THE BLOCK Director Joe Cornish In The Running To Helm STAR TREK 3?

While he's apparently just one of many names being considered at this early stage, Attack the Block director and Ant-Man writer Joe Cornish is the first director to be linked to the third instalment in the Star Trek franchise which J.J. Abrams will be unable to helm due to his Star Wars commitments.

He worked on the The Adventures of Tintin: The Secret of the Unicorn and Ant-Man screenplays, and made his directorial debut with the brilliant British sci-fi/horror movie Attack the Block. However, it is now being reported by Latino-Review's Elmayimbe that Joe Cornish is on the shortlist of filmmakers that Paramount and Bad Robot are considering as a replacement for J.J. Abrams. A third instalment in the franchise is far from confirmed at this point, especially after Star Trek Into Darkness' disappointing opening in North America. However, the studio ARE reportedly quite keen to get Star Trek 3 in theatres by the time the series celebrates its 50th anniversary in 2016. As J.J. Abrams will be far too busy with Star Wars Episode VII to work on that film, expect to hear more about any possible replacements over the coming weeks and months! What do you guys think?

What he's effectively doing there is saving his ass. As per usual.

One of my most trusted sources tells me that ElMayimbe is a poopsnacker. You heard it here first!
jessepostal - 5/23/2013, 5:16 PM
Attack the blocks concept was awesome, but the movie itself was pretty meh.
Mr123 - 5/23/2013, 5:27 PM
I for one thought Attack the Block was good.
Jollem - 5/23/2013, 5:28 PM

Just replace Abrams already. The guy seldom delivers.
OrgasmicPotatoe - 5/23/2013, 5:47 PM
Ohh guys, look at this, El Mayimbe is at it again ! Isn't he cute !
Jollem - 5/23/2013, 5:49 PM
maybe the ridiculous amount of hype for iron man 3 and people seeing what a disappointment it was caused them not to go to stark trek 2?
MrNiklander - 5/23/2013, 5:56 PM
ElMayimbe?!!?
Jollem - 5/23/2013, 5:57 PM
ha. stark trek

There was another article on here yesterday where JJ says he'd be open to a 3rd if the studio decides to make one and the story works.
marvel72 - 5/23/2013, 6:01 PM
attack the block is a good film,i just wanted the aliens to kill all the f*ckin chavs.
BritishKnight - 5/23/2013, 6:07 PM
Hopefully a big blockbuster film like Star Trek will open doors for this guy. He's my personal choice for a Black Panther film (don't kill me guys)
Ramiel - 5/23/2013, 6:08 PM
I enjoyed Attack the Block.
pintoman - 5/23/2013, 6:12 PM
It's the writers...it's the story. There needs to be a reason to tell the tale. That's where the biggest problem is.

However, I would also add very poor set and prop design.
FilmsFan - 5/23/2013, 6:19 PM
Neil Blomkemp would've been a FRESH, Exciting & "Bold" guy to be chosen for STAR WARS!
But JJ is great enough to make a Great if not different enough STAR WARS 7!

Neil would be awesome for Trek!

But my No.1 pick is RIAN JOHNSON... Looper director!!
His Multi layered story will be nice uplift of JJ straight forward (though amazing) plots!!

RIAN JOHNSON, NEIL BLOMKEMP or some one with but of experience cuz they'll be making STAR TREK 3, not a restart... Responsibility & Expectations will be huge!!

No just no! J.J Abram for Star Trek 3. Please. [frick]ing Disney is even screwing other franchise that's not even under there banner. Disney even screwed Pixar for switching there Brave with there Wreck it Ralph. Look at previous DNA of Pixar movies an you will find it in Wreck it Ralph and while Brave has the Disney princess DNA. I'm just saying.

J.J should do Star Trek one more time at least. Also they should have gotten Andrew Stanton for Star Wars. His born to do that. John Carter was better than any of the Star Wars prequel.
xXkryptoniteXx - 5/23/2013, 6:27 PM
@Filmsfan

He would have been great but Disney wants to play it safe, that's why Disney is [frick]ed. Disney is a corporation that loves to play it safe and look at the trends that are currently working. There best time was when they bought Pixar and after that Disney hasn't been doing anything good and they are just riding on Pixar's success.

Watch as Marvel and Star Wars get used and get shelved after when they run dry. Star wars will just become another kids show and not even go to the true potential it can be, a more mature, gritty and dark star wars. Just a campy and aimed at younger crowds.
DoubleD - 5/23/2013, 6:27 PM
They already released the title for the third Star Trek movie. It's called "LOST IN SPACE"
GrootTerMight - 5/23/2013, 6:31 PM
I loved Attack the Block. It was really tense for an incredibly low budget. There were moments I knew were funny and wanted to laugh, but it was so tense I didn't. However, if JJ Abrams couldn't get the Star Trek franchise into the mainstream after 2 great movies, I'm not sure anyone else can.
OrgasmicPotatoe - 5/23/2013, 6:33 PM
Josh Wilding is a smart man, he made sure he didn't mention ElMayimbe's name in the stinger, so people would not refrain from clicking on it.

You got us all, Josh !
DoubleD - 5/23/2013, 6:34 PM
No one can get Star Trek into the mainstream. There are a million Star Trek movies out there already. People are just burnt out of Star Trek
DoubleD - 5/23/2013, 6:35 PM
STAR TREK BURNOUT !

ERASING MY COMMENTS AGAIN? @JOSH
McMeatFace - 5/23/2013, 6:55 PM
Elmayimbe was the first to disclose that Khan was in Star Trek 2, probably should go with him on this as well.
AUSSYACE - 5/23/2013, 6:56 PM
If this Attack the Block Trailer below is the direction that Star Trek is going...Well it's a TRUE FAIL...

OverlyManlyMan - 5/23/2013, 7:11 PM

themcdougalbugle - 5/23/2013, 7:13 PM
No J.C. Chandor!!
DoubleD - 5/23/2013, 7:22 PM
MARVELPSYCHO79, People keep bringing up Iron Man 3 is actually the greatest compliment you can give a movie. Jealousy an the need to slam a movie like Iron Man 3 is because they wish their favorite characters or movie would get as much attention as Iron Man.
GUNSMITH - 5/23/2013, 7:53 PM
TheAbomination - 5/23/2013, 8:34 PM
Can we stop posting articles about rumors from El Mayimbe? A puddle of urine is probably a more reliable source than him.
brazilianbatman - 5/23/2013, 8:34 PM
disappointment?? tell me when star trek movies were huge box office hits. ok the last one grossed 257 million in the USA but the overall box office was only 385 million, I bet this one will make over 400 million. Into Darkness might not make more than the previous movie in the USA but will at least pass 200 million. Give me a Marvel Stuios movie besides the Iron Man series and Avengers that crossed 200 million in thE USA. None.
chris043 - 5/23/2013, 8:53 PM
You know what would be crazy? If they got George Lucas to direcct it.
GodzillaKart - 5/23/2013, 9:11 PM
That would be great because this last Star Trek movie is perhaps the worst piece of [frick]ing garbage I have seen in years. The first 2/3 was fine simple fun. The last third was...insulting.
Ceejay - 5/24/2013, 12:03 AM
Once Star Wars movies start coming out again, Paramounts Star Trek will have even less people interested in staying with the franchise. JJ basically started and killed their baby.
Jollem - 5/24/2013, 12:04 AM
abrams' trek movies are great
