Zack Snyder And Hans Zimmer Tease The Future Of The DC Cinematic Universe

Man of Steel director Zack Snyder talks briefly about saving both Lex Luthor and Kryptonite for a future instalment in the franchise, while composer Hans Zimmer seemingly reveals that he has spoken to filmmaker about upcoming plans for the DC Cinematic Universe. Check iit out!

Superhero Hype has posted a couple of brief excerpts from their interviews with Zack Snyder and Hans Zimmer from yesterday's Man of Steel junket, and both appear to tease the future of the DC Cinematic Universe. Snyder has already said that he would be interested in helming a sequel to the upcoming Superman reboot, and has been rumoured to be involved with Justice League, but Zimmer seemingly confirms that the filmmaker most definitely has plans beyond just this one film. "I just had a conversation recently with Zack where I was trying to look at my life in the future. He was going, 'Well, we want to go and do this and we want to go and [do this].' I was thinking, 'Oh my god. Here we go again.'" Snyder however is still focused on Superman and instead teases what we could possibly expect to see in a future instalment of this new franchise. "Someone asked me, 'There's no Kryptonite and no Lex Luthor?'" Snyder smiled. "I said, 'Well, okay. Within the parameters of this story, there's no Kryptonite or Lex Luthor, but that's not to say that they don't exist in the world. That's an entirely different question."





In the pantheon of superheroes, Superman is the most recognized and revered character of all time. Clark Kent/Kal-El (Henry Cavill) is a young twenty-something journalist who feels alienated by powers beyond his imagination. Transported years ago to Earth from Krypton, a highly advanced, distant planet, Clark struggles with the ultimate question 'Why am I here?' Shaped by the values of his adoptive parents Martha (Diane Lane) and Jonathan Kent (Kevin Costner), Clark discovers having extraordinary abilities means making difficult decisions. Most of the characters in the Justice League are pretty cheesy and corny, Green Lantern movie showed exactly how much appeal outside Batman and Superman that the other characters have aside from die hard fanboys religiously still buying those comics.

Nolan and Snyder are going to have to do a lot of revising and adapting to take those cheesy characters out of the 1960's and 70's concepts they've been stuck in for years and bring them to some level of wider appeal beyond blind fanboys.

They're definitively on the right track with Superman, if it was like the Reeves cheesy version then it would make zip at he box office again like Bryan Singers tribute mute.

Before I start I'm NOT trying to make this a DC vs MARVEL thing. I'm not some child that feels the need to pick sides. I love both DC and Marvel equally.


The above comments from Snyder and Zimmer are all well and good. Still I don't know about the rest of you but I'm still a little bitter that we're not going to have any DC related releases in 2014 and probably 2015 either because the largest, most powerful film company on the planet is afraid to take chances with one of the largest catalog's of popular fictional characters ever created simply because Martin Campbell made a shitty Green Lantern movie.

I don't get it. Warner Brothers possess the film rights to EVERYBODY under the DC umbrella and they can't get their ducks in a row while MARVEL has about 3/5 of their characters under their roof and they're swinging for the fences taking chance after chance and each one being more successful than the last.

Your comments are only like a quarter right. DC and especially Geoff Johns has been updating those characters for the last decade. Especially Green Lantern and The Flash. He modernized their respective origin's and their overall mythology to make them more appealing to a modern audience. Wonder Woman is probably the hardest nut to crack in that bunch but other than her you're completely off base with your critique of the JL characters.


Also Christopher Reeves portrayal of Superman is legendary and is regarded as such. Furthermore Superman Returns out grossed Batman Begins and almost every Marvel movie up to that point besides Spider-Man and X-men by accumulating almpst $400 million.... Not saying it was a good flick but to say it made "zip" at the box office is ridiculous.

Have patience friends. The SDCC is right around the corner and they will be dropping some serious news.

@Ceejay - Being a DC fan mainly, you do have a point. The thing is now you have Snyder involved and with DC's revamp with the New 52, that cheesy 70's is history. This new MOS will change the way CBM's are done in the future. WB and DC know that their mistakes in the past cannot be repeated. The proof for me is my friends who are diehard Marvel fans are actually becoming intrigued by this movie. That in itself says a lot.

All this DC = Fail stuff is stupid. Same with people saying the same about Marvel. If both studios can continue to crank out epic CBMs, this will keep the real target audience coming back for more and it will benefit all of us. This is a very exciting time for DC and Marvel.

Plus why rush a JL Movie just to have one? If people truly think WB doesn't have an outline for the future or scripts done, then they do not understand the industry. Marvel Studios for instance let's everyone know about their phases because they are now established. MOS is the launching point and again everyone will see what the future holds at the SDCC. My sources tell me we should be very excited about the news coming out in July. :-)

Well, we've heard all this crap before. I doubt a JL movie will get made within this decade. World's Finest anyone? DC shot down the Wonder Woman tv show before the pilot even hit the air. I think they have ZERO faith in any Wonder Woman movie coming out...EVER.

If Marvel Studios puts Ant-Man on the big screen (the test-footage looked really awesome), DC/WB can kiss an Atom movie goodbye. The same goes for Aquaman if Namor is brought to the big screen.

That leaves us with Green Lantern... Yeah. Would any DC fan out there like it if other companies picked up their characters and started making movies...however average they might turn out? Teen Titans done by New Line or someone besides WB? Just curious.

DC and WB will continue with Superman reboots/sequels and Batman reboots/sequels until the end of days...

@ BlindJustice I disagree about the Atom and Ant-Man. Despite their shrinkage abilities they have totally different power sets. The Atom can ride EM waves for example and go molecular too.

My humble opinion follows;

Wonder Woman could be HUGE if done appropriately and powerfully. The TV pilot may have been cancelled for big screen purposes.
She's a household name across multiple generations so I don't understand why WB won't take the risk on her. Very weird. (btw my ex-girlfriend hated comics but her hero was WW)

Aquaman deserves James Cameron scale treatment and respect otherwise the Aquaman concept will be wasted.

The advantage with GL is that there is more than one, ie John Stewart (not so much Kyle or Guy) so can easily be rebooted and recontextualised. Expand to other worlds here including Rann, Thanagar etc.

The Flash can be so amazing on screen and his backstory with his framed father and murdered mother is workable. Integrate the Atom here to justify the science behind his suit and intro him for future cameos.

Anyway bring on SDCC because I'm desparate for some good news on DCCU.

Nothing in the interview gave me an impression they were talking about a shared universe, it seemed more like a discussion on a possible sequel to MOS.

I'm really surprised at the over-confidence emanating from some people. Such as "this film will change the way CBM's are done in the future". That begs the question "Why will it?? What's so absolutely spectacular about this film that it's going to revolutionize the future of film?? Yeah, it's a Superman film and regardless of how confident people are, it's still got David Goyer and Zack Snyder attached to it. Y'know the guys who brought us such "awesome" films as Death Warrant, Blade Trinity, Sucker Punch, Ghost Rider: Spirit of Vengeance, The Unborn, Watchmen, Kickboxer 2, Legends of the Guardians, The Crow: City of Angels, and the list goes on and on.
All I'm saying is be prepared for something less than spectacular, as judging by some early reviews (another article was posted regarding some reviews) it sounds like it's being received somewhere between mixed and positively. And I am not one bit surprised.

Dont really care about WB/DC fast tracking a JL movie. I want a Wonder Woman movie, Flash movie, and Green Lantern reboot first. Im sure WB/DC has plans that none of us are privy to yet. Like DCMultiverse said, we'll probably get some good news at SDCC.

Exactly the movie is following Batman begins pattern, which many other CBMs have try to emulate before.
