Yes! I'm so glad Mystiques getting involved in some action scenes. Those were always my favourite parts of the X Trilogy.

@TheLogan Alan Cummings has said repeatedly that he doesn't like the make up process, that's why he hasn't returned to anymore movies as nightcrawler.

1976. Magneto sends Mystique to murder Sal Mineo. Eric doesn't like boys who tell tales out of school.

Well, it's cool to see that she's learned to kick some ass in ten years...

I liked the fact that they made her kind of fragile when it came to violence in the first film. She looked really horrified when Sebastian Shaw attacked the C.I.A. compound, and her only contribution to the final battle was as a distraction. Apparently Magneto brings out the badass in her, and it's cool that they gave her such a dynamic character arc.

I'm mostly curious about one thing, though... will future Charles acknowledge their relationship at some point in the film? 'Cause that's one brilliant element of retconning that First Class did which I'd like to see addressed and carried forward by the original cast (even if Rebecca Romijn is, apparently, out of the picture).

Maybe (since this film will, no doubt, completely alter the timeline so that the first X-Men films never happened, or happen slightly differently) they can have a reverse of the Mystique arc from First Class, with Charles getting through to her and perhaps softening her edges as a character.

I don't know-- it's just a thought.

@TheFox I agree! Out of all of the characters journeys they gave Mystique the biggest one, they gave her a heart and emotion, and I can't wait to see the next step in her life that brings her to be the cold, calculating woman we saw in the X Trilogy.

Really love the new colouring and design for Mystique!
A great improvement from First Class and still looks super-realistic.

CherryBomb
CherryBomb - 7/31/2013, 12:42 PM

If I'm not mistaken, Alan Cumming did show his uncomfortableness with the make-up but despite this, said he'd still have loved to return.

He was gonna return in X-Men The Last Stand but his part was only small and producers didn't see the point of the many hours of make-up and extra budget just for the small scene.

TheFox - 7/31/2013, 1:31 PM
@MexicanSuperman: I dunno... that "poison" in Cerebro obviously wasn't meant to kill him, but just incapacitate him temporarily (otherwise, why not just put a bomb in there?).

The fact that they never shared a scene in the original films is exactly why I want to see 'em meet up in this one. I don't think Charles would screw over Mystique, though... So like I said, I want to see a kind of reconciliation with future Charles (even though they parted on fairly good terms in First Class-- but I'm sure the scuzzy, '70s-degenerate Charles has burned that bridge by the time the new film starts).
