There were no rumors when it came to who would be voicing Ultron in The Avengers: Age of Ultron; Marvel preempted all of that by officially announcing that it would be James Spader on their own website.

Forgetting any Marvel or DC bias for a second, there's simply no getting around the fact that James Spader being cast as Ultron failed to generate even a fraction of the buzz that Ben Affleck being cast as Batman did. A surprise considering the fact that we're talking about the main villain in the sequel to the highest grossing superhero movie of all-time! Had Joss Whedon and Marvel gone for a big name, excitement levels would have been through the roof; instead the reaction was more a case of "Who?" and "Who cares?" It appeared that anyone under the age of 30 had absolutely no idea who Spader is, while those who did listed a number of obscure television shows and movies equally as many had never heard of as proof that he's a good choice. So, how do YOU feel about this casting decision? Well, here's your chance to tell us!

You wanna know why this news didnt generate as much buzz?? You honestly don't know?

Ben Affleck as Batman has become one of the most controversial castings of all time
James Spader was for the most part was well received
And negativity and bad news is always the popular news

I haven't seen too many of Spader's movies, but I thought he was great in Stargate (aside from his fake sneezing).

I don't think Spader's casting generated less buzz than Affleck's because it was well received. I think for most people it was a "Who cares?" scenario. The GA doesn't know a lot about Ultron or Spader. Although he's had a lot of roles trough the years and he's a good actor, he's not a big name by any means. Affleck is a big name, and Batman is a big name. Ultron and Spader are nowhere near that kind of popularity. Everybody has an opinion on Batman or on Ben Affleck. How much of those same people have one on Ultron or on Spader?

The dude is awesome at his craft. I don't see this as a problem in any way.

Now if they picked Bobcat Goldthwait I'd be concerned.

He'll probably be cracking one-liners and slapstick humor with all of his scenes. [frick]ing Marvel.

This isn't garnering as much attention as the Affleck casting, because this is actually a good, intelligent choice for the part

None of the above.

I know who he is... I dont think its a terrible choice but its nothing I'm excited about. I'll wait until I hear the vocals, but definitely underwhelmed.

If you take each movie every production company/studio/film corporation has ever made, and average out the domestic gross made per movie....

Marvel Studios is far and away the most successful film studio every made. Their worst movie ever was Incredible Hulk at 263M$.

I dont think people are hating the fact that's Ben Aflec, but because they are rebooting Batman franchise again.

Wasn't TIH certified fresh on RT??? The movie was luke warm among critics but it definately dissapointed at the B.O. I think it's a very underrated film to be honest.

"failed to generate even a fraction of the buzz that Ben Affleck being cast as Batman did.".. do you mean fans being so disappointing by the choice that there is a petition with more than 70.000 signatures to take him out of the role? yeah, I´m sure marvel or any other studio would be jealous of that kind of fan-reaction... WB must be thanking miley cirus and her twerking for taking away some of the attention to the bad reception batffleck got from the fans.

maybe marvel fans are not making a big scandal out of spader as ultron, or cooper as rocket raccon, because they know the studio cast a talented, award winning actor for the role, even if it is just for his voice... and both spader and cooper can act circles around cavill and bat-gigli, just with their voices, any day of the week and twice on sunday....
