Marvel Studios Producer Hints At CAPTAIN MARVEL Movie But Says "It's Hard"

The idea of a superhero movie with a lead female character is obviously something which has been discussed at Marvel as director and producer Louis D'Esposito has once again spoken out about the possibility of a character like Captain Marvel getting her own big screen outing. "There's obviously a drumbeat that is banging louder and louder that we want a female lead superhero. We have strong female characters in our films from Black Widow to Pepper Potts to Peggy Carter and you never know. Maybe there's an offshoot film with one of them. Or Captain Marvel, you know?" However, it sounds as if the studio already know which movies will be filling their 2016 slots and Captain Marvel won't be one of them! They also don't seem particularly keen on adding third film to their two a year routine. "It's hard because we have a small group at Marvel. We do two films a year. To get those two films done and to do them right takes a lot of work and manpower. And female-power, obviously. To add a third film and to just put it in the slate right now is difficult. We have these next three, four, five films coming out and that's what we're really concentrating on." What do you guys think? Sound off below!

Ms.Marvel for 2017.
Ramiel - 9/5/2013, 3:44 PM
Ms. Marvel, baby! Spider-Woman would be nice as well.
NovaCorpsFan - 9/5/2013, 3:45 PM
Got me excited. Expecting the REAL Captain Marvel, and it turns out to be Ms. Marvel. I dgaf what she goes by now, she's Ms. Marvel in my book.
jerryblake - 9/5/2013, 3:47 PM
i'm not that familiar with Spider Woman (Jessica Drew) character bit if they ever gonna do first modern female superhero movie ... i think that's a way to do it.
m0th3r - 9/5/2013, 3:53 PM
Ms.Marvel(Capt. Marvel now) is fine if we are looking to go for a female lead. How about She-Hulk in a Hulk Sequel w/ The Leader. Jessica Drew would be cool too...but id work with Sony just to promote some good will...
DaenerysTargaryen - 9/5/2013, 3:53 PM're doing a movie that costars a talking raccoon with a machine gun, Ms. Marvel should be easy by comparison
Praetorian - 9/5/2013, 3:54 PM
Eh, I dunno. I'd rather get a Namor or Silver Surfer movie first but Marvel doesn't have the rights.
ATrueHero1987 - 9/5/2013, 3:54 PM
I was expecting Louis D'Esposito to say something dumb again(this is the same guy that said bringing Wakanda in BP on the big screen would be "difficult") but what he says here makes since.
ScarletSpidey - 9/5/2013, 3:57 PM
I'd love a Captain Marvel (Carol Danvers) film. She has the potential to be Marvel's Wonder Woman. Some would argue she already is. I just think she could rival Wonder Wonan's popularity if Marvel played their cards right.
DrDoom - 9/5/2013, 3:58 PM
Ms. Marvel movie please, and you better call her Ms. Marvel.
ScarletSpidey - 9/5/2013, 3:58 PM
^^ Woman" not "Wonan" ^^
SageMode - 9/5/2013, 3:59 PM

Bring it on!!!!!!!
McNyagano - 9/5/2013, 4:01 PM
Marvel already has a script for a Captain Marvel movie. If she gets a movie before Wonder Woman, then [frick] you WB.
damntree - 9/5/2013, 4:02 PM
It's never been done before? Elecktra, Catwoman, Supergirl?
BritishMonkey - 9/5/2013, 4:05 PM
Soon, in time. It'll happen.
Indy - 9/5/2013, 4:05 PM

Phase 4

(2018) Guardians Of The Galaxy 2
(2019) Nova
(2019) Inhumans
(2020) Captain Marvel
(2020) Namor: The Sub-Mariner
(2021) The Defenders
McNyagano - 9/5/2013, 4:07 PM

They have a script already, just waiting for the right time :D
NovaCorpsFan - 9/5/2013, 4:09 PM
Elektra: sucked.
Catwoman: sucked
Supergirl: Never knew she had a movie
McNyagano - 9/5/2013, 4:10 PM

Will you relax, I'm sure Black Panther is part of Phase three. Just relax dude, they already have a script, so just wait and see next year when they announce Phase three films.
McNyagano - 9/5/2013, 4:12 PM

"And please, you'd never make a successful movie with a B-level character as the lead."

Thor, Iron Man, Captain America, Blade...etc...
PeterDarker121 - 9/5/2013, 4:12 PM

I think that since James Gunn made it a point to mention 'The Kree' this week, Marvel's gonna wait to see how the ratings for Agents Of Shield do....if it's a huge hit and renewed for a second season (Fall 2014-Spring 2015), that'd be the perfect time to introduce Carol Danvers through the show, establish her character and work on getting her shizznit on the screen @2017. At least I HOPE that scenario plays out!

Hell yeah!

Let me shove my money at the studio. Here. Take it. I'm makin' it raaaaaain.
Jodez99 - 9/5/2013, 4:13 PM
Here ya go:

TheRationalNerd - 9/5/2013, 4:15 PM
I'd honestly like to see the Marvel Knights return to the big screen for phase 4! Just don't let Disney handle these gritty yet bada** characters!

Heroes for Hire
Ghost Rider
GinjaNinja - 9/5/2013, 4:17 PM
Captain Mar-Vell better be there somewere... I want both of them, don't just make carol the captain marvel and then shaft mar-vell.
MericawithanM - 9/5/2013, 4:18 PM
I'm honestly still surprised that she isn't being added in Avengers 2. I thought she would be the next to be added instead of scarlet witch and quicksilver. I think she will show up one way or another down the line for sure though. I would like to see her in the 3rd avengers for sure if she doesn't get a solo flick, which I think sounds somewhat unlikely at this point.
Reasonnnn - 9/5/2013, 4:18 PM
Abbie Cornish as Ms. Marvel
ATrueHero1987 - 9/5/2013, 4:20 PM
@THEDARKKNIGHT1939 How is that pointless??
third3ye - 9/5/2013, 4:20 PM
I like to take jabs at DC/WB for not making a WW movie but I know it's not easy for any studio to tackle a female lead CBM. I actually don't think the issue is with the content, the issue is with the fanbase. If someone can solve the riddle of making a female lead CBM appeal to the masses and ignore the misogynistic needs of the male dominated comic fanbase, that person is going to open the floodgates.
JatevinM - 9/5/2013, 4:23 PM
Oh they hear the outcry for a female superhero, but I guess they turn a deaf ear to the cry that people are letting out for a non white superhero. I guess Kevin Feige will just keep hiding behind the lie that creating Wakanda is just too hard when Marvel has had Asgard created and even remodeled.
JatevinM - 9/5/2013, 4:25 PM
LMAO and please dont give me this bullshit about the fanbase no wanting a female superhero movie or female superheroes not appealing to male fans because they do appeal to male fans.
PsyGuy - 9/5/2013, 4:26 PM
I would LOSE IT if this ever happened (in a good way)

C'mon DC! This is your chance to set the standard and do something before Marvel! Where's my Wonder Woman movie??
MrMartinMarvel - 9/5/2013, 4:26 PM
Ms Marvel would only work in an Avengers movie.
gambgel - 9/5/2013, 4:29 PM
Miss Marvel maybe for..... 2023?
Mrsinister - 9/5/2013, 4:33 PM
They need Captain Mar'vel before Ms. Marvel. Its crazy how you guys complain about the comics being so different from the movie then you want a Ms Marvel movie with out the proper setup.
OldBenKenobi - 9/5/2013, 4:44 PM
I better see Ms. Marvel, and Black Panther.
FOOM - 9/5/2013, 4:47 PM
A Captain Marvel movies is needed. And Ms Marvel can go to the Avengers instead.
DarthOptimus - 9/5/2013, 4:59 PM
Julianne Hough for Ms. Marvel
