Tom Hiddleston's Loki has become something of a phenomenon, but in the following video interview, Hiddleston confirms that there are no currently plans for a solo movie featuring the God of Mischief. However, he shares his thoughts on what he'd like to see in it if one was to happen...

After two memorable appearances in Thor and The Avengers, Tom Hiddleston's Loki has become a fan favourite comic book movie villain, hence why the actor has been featured so prominently in marketing for Thor: The Dark World. While the comic book version of the villain is being lined up for his own solo series in the New Year (Loki: Agent of Asgard), how would the actor feel about taking the God of Mischief into his own movie? Here's what he had to say about just that!

Marvel’s "Thor: The Dark World" continues the big-screen adventures of Thor, the Mighty Avenger, as he battles to save Earth and all the Nine Realms from a shadowy enemy that predates the universe itself. In the aftermath of Marvel’s "Thor" and "Marvel’s The Avengers," Thor fights to restore order across the cosmos…but an ancient race led by the vengeful Malekith returns to plunge the universe back into darkness. Faced with an enemy that even Odin and Asgard cannot withstand, Thor must embark on his most perilous and personal journey yet, one that will reunite him with Jane Foster and force him to sacrifice everything to save us all.

Obviously. IMO, Loki is interesting when he is around Thor. Every great villain needs a great hero behind it.

You make a solo movie based around him, you're taking away the one thing that makes him interesting.

Doctor Doom is the only villain great enough to have a movie to himself :D

But I do think studios like Dc/Wb, marvel, Fox, and Sony should start pursuing movies based off the villains. It would be interesting to see the POV from the villains side for a change.

I think what makes Loki great is that he isn't on screen all the time and when he is on screen he's such an interesting and complex character as displayed by Tom Hiddleston. I think making a solo movie would ruin his image. Kind of like the Jack Sparrow effect. In the first one he was awesome because he wasn't the main lead. Then after the first one everything revolved around him and everyone got sick of him. Don't over do Loki and turn him into the next Jack Sparrow. Keep him as a supporting character...plus once he's the main character all the hipsters will be mad at him for going mainstream.

I agree with you completely. As great a character as Loki is and as much history as there is to make a Loki film, a solo film would cheapen him. I wouldn't mind him showing up in other films, but a solo film is in bad taste I think.

and believe me i'm all for more Comic Book Movies. Anything that pops up on the big screen that I used to read in comic books as a child(and still read now) I am willing to spend money on and see. Hell, I even buy some of the bad ones i.e. Daredevil, Punisher, Fantastic Four. However, I think Marvel Studios should worry about bringing new properties to theatres like Black Panther and I really really really want a Namor movie. He's one of my all time favorites.

Really hope he dies. It will solve 2 things:

1.) Stop him from being in every Marvel movie
2.) Take away from the comedy

@THEDARKKNIGHT1939

Because comedy is so awful?
And he's been in both Thor movies and rightfully so seeing as he plays a big part in Thor's history and mythology...and Avengers. By my count thats 2 movies and 1 thats yet to come out. And there has been 7 Marvel Studios movies and 3 that will be out in the next year or so.

What a great guy. And what a take on the character. I love that he acknowledged the compliment, I hate when people try to brush those off so quickly like no man, that was for you, take the dang compliment!

Hope we see him at least one more time in avengers 3

I love this character, and especially how he plays it, but I don't think he could be the main character in a solo film. He's so unpredictable, the script would be all over the place, he needs main characters to keep him in check. And he's a villain.

I didn't know Namor was still at Universal. I would prefer Marvel to helm a Namor movie but I would see it no matter what studio did it. 3 films a year would be fantastic, or more. But that's just me being greedy. I believe Marvel got Daredevil rights back and thats another character i'd like to see redone and then thrown into the Universe with the Avengers somehow.

This movie seems to be putting a lot of focus on Loki. I imagine a somewhat redemptive arc and (apparent?) death. I love Hiddleston, but how much more meaningful stuff can they really do with Loki? I think concluding his story here would really give this movie's story some impact.

Being an Asgardian, it would be easy to bring him back a few movies from now if they wanted to.

True. I think keeping Loki in the Thor movies is the best bet. And if by chance he shows up in Age of Ultron I wouldn't be disappointed.

I'd like to see this movie more than a WonderWoman movie, that's for sure. And Hiddleston's got the chops to act solo, he can carry a movie.
BritishMonkey
BritishMonkey - 10/19/2013, 2:52 PM
As great a villain as Tom can make Loki it'd be too much and too pointless for Loki to get a solo film.
If anything should be of Loki on his own it should be a one shot or to a longer extent a tv series.
