BOX OFFICE: THOR: THE DARK WORLD Passes $600 Million Worldwide

Thor: The Dark World will more than likely pick up a little more cash when it opens in Japan not too long from now, but it seems as if the sequel will finish its run at the worldwide box office with a cume of just over $600 million. That's a hell of a result for the sequel, and while it doesn't come close to Iron Man 3's $1.2 billion, it's surely enough to guarantee that we'll see the God of Thunder back on the big screen for another solo movie after The Avengers: Age of Ultron.

Awwwwww where is that ONE BILLION it was going to make? Crickets from Sage and Trudy!
Luminus - 12/6/2013, 8:59 AM
Doesn't it still have to be released in Japan?
kevberg - 12/6/2013, 9:02 AM
AWESOME...Its a great movie. Had a lotta fun even if it wasn't clear exactly what Malekiths motivations were....

The strength of the movie was Hemsorth and Loki , Odin, and the the humor.

Yeah .I enjoyed the humor.
ManCalledSting - 12/6/2013, 9:02 AM
Cool, it was a good family movie, so I'm not surprised.
JoeMomma29 - 12/6/2013, 9:05 AM
The movie was Good not Great nor was it bad or horrible. I wished they would have spent another five minutes on Malekith and the only downer part was the over the top forced humor from Darcy!
DrDoom - 12/6/2013, 9:10 AM
The movie hasn't been released in all territories.
charlie2094 - 12/6/2013, 9:12 AM
Awesome, thats a $150+ million increase over the first which is pretty impressive...get Thor 3 in May 2016, riding the success of AoU at the start of summer and it'll be even bigger!

Enjoyed the film, saw it twice. Disappointed both times, by the underdeveloped Malekith and too much Darcy, but still a very enjoyable film, glad Marvel has another success
Nomis - 12/6/2013, 9:13 AM
A Good movie. Solid. Better than the first (by Miles)

But it could've been so much better.
JoeMomma29 - 12/6/2013, 9:14 AM
@ 1to10youlose

Ummm I am not sure maybe another 20 to 30 million.
charlie2094 - 12/6/2013, 9:14 AM
@DrDoom

Isn't it only Japan left? Thats not until February I believe, probably bring in $15-20 million more, Iron Man 3 managed $25 million
JoeMomma29 - 12/6/2013, 9:16 AM
@ Charlie

Yup you and I are guessing around the same amount.

I'm still hoping this will gross more than Man of Steel. The Dark World was easily my second favorite superhero film of the year.
TheRebellion - 12/6/2013, 9:18 AM
Very happy even though this movie is pretty trash IMO.
Ramiel - 12/6/2013, 9:19 AM
I see this passing IM2's box office total, placing it third behind IM3 and Avengers in the MCU.
charlie2094 - 12/6/2013, 9:20 AM
@Zauri

Very unlikely, only got Japan left to open in and needs about $60 million more to reach Man of Steel and even Iron Man 3 made $25 million in Japan, so it'll get close, but probably not quite close enough

@JoeMomma

I see :) Considering Iron Man 3 managed $25 million, don't see Thor going past that, close though maybe
dinkinflicka - 12/6/2013, 9:21 AM
Impressive considering he's not an A-List character in the Marvel universe. This is probably one of the reasons we are going to get solo WW and Flash movies in the next 5 years. I'm not big fan of Thor but I wanted it to be susccessful. I thought at the time they were making a mistake releasing when they did in the US they should have done one week earlier. It really got snowed under by Catching Fire. It should have made more in the US. Marvel hopefully will push back Antmans release it should not come out in the wake of Batman vs Superman.
Chucky2003 - 12/6/2013, 9:22 AM
Fast and Furious 6 made more
THEDARKKNIGHT1939 - 12/6/2013, 9:24 AM
This didn't even make a billion. Yup, Ant-Man sure is going to top Superman/Batman LMAO
JoJo1982 - 12/6/2013, 9:24 AM
Trudy and Sage are on suicide watch after this news, lol
JoJo1982 - 12/6/2013, 9:25 AM
Still Thor became a big success and it deserves the cash

Less Earth scenes in Thor 3 plz
charlie2094 - 12/6/2013, 9:26 AM
@TheDarkKnight

I don't think anyone's expecting Ant-Man to come close to Batman/Superman...$1 billion would've been crazy for this film, it was never going to make that and it didn't to, it managed to make over $150 million more than the first which is pretty impressive
TheRebellion - 12/6/2013, 9:27 AM
@DarkKnight You make yourself sound like a fool with comments like that, and a person who probably gets a huge kick out of fanboy wars. Should just be happy this movie is not a flop because thats a win for the genre.

darkknightmare2012 - 12/6/2013, 9:29 AM
i thought the plot was a bit sketchy to be honest ..
AlexanderLykins - 12/6/2013, 9:30 AM
Anyone predicting this movie would make over 1 billion is crazy. Iron Man and Batman are the only solo superheroes who have done it and that will probably never change. If Superman couldn't do it then Thor sure as heck won't do it.
Rokyn - 12/6/2013, 9:30 AM
Eh I enjoyed the film but I'm dissecting the film soon in a editorial. There major problems with characters and story here and the issue is NOT comedy. The comedy is one of the best things of the movie. More to come..
venom0706 - 12/6/2013, 9:31 AM
Great movie and great box office numbers.Enjoyed it every time at the cinema.Thor 3 is certain.
Sumitsjc - 12/6/2013, 9:31 AM
Thundered.
Rokyn - 12/6/2013, 9:32 AM
Nowhere as good as Iron Man 3 or MOS. IM3 was a beautiful film that people need to rewatch in order to understand.
ManCalledSting - 12/6/2013, 9:32 AM
That's right! Get back at a troll, by trolling articles on stuff they like....interesting tactic.
JoeMomma29 - 12/6/2013, 9:33 AM
Rokyn

??????? IM3 a beautiful film???????????? Well to each their own!
TheWolverine08 - 12/6/2013, 9:34 AM
Sweet stuff! Great accomplishment!
UlisesMX - 12/6/2013, 9:34 AM
I predicted 700 but still a nice number considering the boost from the first one... Maybe it will reach 650 after all.
m0th3r - 12/6/2013, 9:36 AM
Yea..haters gonna hate..this is gonna do MoS money...and Thor has never had the exposure..Face it, Teir 2 Marvel characters are returning MORE then A-List done by other studios.

When GoTG mops up...im going to howl laughing at the haters then too..
NovaCorpsFan - 12/6/2013, 9:36 AM
LOL

Sage, you know what to do! DC avi time, mother[frick]er!
JoJo1982 - 12/6/2013, 9:36 AM
@omega

*thumbs up*

I agree with everything u said right there
dougieisrollingthejays - 12/6/2013, 9:37 AM
Good. Easily the best CBM of the year. Looks like its going to end up just shy of MoS even with the hit from Catching fire. So nothing to be ashamed of for marvel's November release.
McNyagano - 12/6/2013, 9:38 AM
dougieisrollingthejays - 12/6/2013, 9:38 AM
I was wrong, I said 700 million. but still happy with the 600 million
