For those of you who don't know, Borys Kit writes for The Hollywood Reporter, so this is indeed a reliable source. Which of the director's above do you guys think would be best suited for helming Doctor Strange? At this point, it seems likely that the movie will indeed be part of Marvel's Phase 3 plans in 2016, but the earliest confirmation of this that we're likely to get is this year's San Diego Comic-Con. As always, stay tuned to CBM for further updates!

JillyMcBeam - 3/11/2014, 12:58 PM
What Marvel animated movie?
McNyagano - 3/11/2014, 12:58 PM
Never heard of them.
dethpillow - 3/11/2014, 1:05 PM
@MrBlackJack - is it? u mean like interesting cuz they're good or like just an interesting list of candidates relative to each other?

i don't know what to think sometimes about director picked now. cuz Winter Soldier is looking real good, but when it was announced, I was just like "who are these guys? tv, ok, I don't know, whatever."

i wish they'd kept that one lady on Thor 2, Patty Jenkins I think. she did Monster. but that sounded really interesting to me.

are there any on that list u like particularly?

@JillyMcBeam - there's a Dr Strange animated film. 5 or 6 years ago maybe. little while ago. it was pretty bland.
MrReese - 3/11/2014, 1:08 PM
Depp or GTFO Disney!!!
dethpillow - 3/11/2014, 1:08 PM
Marvel makes terrible animated movies. that Ultimates one in Wakanda really bugged me too, i've tried to watch that twice and it's so tedious to me that i can never make it even halfway thru.

I hate how they try to make them like movies and put all that crappy movie type score music in it. sickening. DC is just as bad about that part tho. I can't make it thru DC animated stuff cuz of little things like that.

DC really has a stick up it's ass a lot of times.
dethpillow - 3/11/2014, 1:09 PM
@MrBlackJack - i see yeah, i was thinking you might mean that. makes sense, it is an odd little list if you think of those movies.
dethpillow - 3/11/2014, 1:10 PM
@AlphaFlexxx - is it? i think maybe i don't get along with certain things and animated movies are one, cuz a lot of people really like the DC ones, and they drive me up a wall. it's probably just me.
JillyMcBeam - 3/11/2014, 1:14 PM
Ahhhh...Yeah, I forgot about that heaping pile of crap
MsDarkPhoenix - 3/11/2014, 1:15 PM
Everytime I see something about Doctor Strange, this song gets stuck in my head

These are good directors for Doctor Strange btw :)
Sophisticated - 3/11/2014, 1:16 PM
I always like some Strange.
TheRealRemyLebeau - 3/11/2014, 1:16 PM
Dr. Strange animated movie was very well done as was Invincible Iron Man even though that mandarin was some ancient ghost. Ultimate Avengers 1 was great haven't seen part 2. Some of you guys are off the wall when judging animated movies. Smh.
EdgyOutsider - 3/11/2014, 1:20 PM
Scott Derrickon would do good. Loved Sinister it's the only movie to have ever actually scare me. He does supernatural very well, which is the doors of the MCU that Doc Strange would open up. But, I still got to go Jonathan Levine because of 50/50 he is proven to be a great dramatic director and great drama is needed (as well as a good script) if we are to believe it to be happening as well as that he exists in the MCU rather than them just telling us he is.
TheRealRemyLebeau - 3/11/2014, 1:21 PM
I can dig it if marvel wants to throw in a horror/suspense director but it has to be somebody who has a good eye on the craziness of strange's world. Don't know much on these directors or their films.
JillyMcBeam - 3/11/2014, 1:22 PM
It could have just been done better. It was a so so forgettable movie for me.
MsDarkPhoenix - 3/11/2014, 1:22 PM
I agree with Gusto about the animated Doctor Strange movie. It could have been much better. I think that he is an interesting character.
Indy - 3/11/2014, 1:23 PM
@Phoenix Your ALIVE?!!!!!!!!!
TheRealistStarLord - 3/11/2014, 1:24 PM
I thought MARVEL Studios wants Fede Alvarez, the director who helmed the Evil Dead reboot? I dont mind him though. It would be a dream if MARVEL Studios pick Guiellermo Del Toro to helm Doctor Strange movie.
TheRealRemyLebeau - 3/11/2014, 1:25 PM
We don't need drama for a Dr. Strange movie!?! We need suspenseful, psychedelic, mind freak director for Strange. What would a drama director do with the demon villains that strange faces. Not taking anything away from Levine but still.
WorstUserNameEver - 3/11/2014, 1:25 PM
Yeah Dr Strange animated movie was ok...

thought it was the only marvel animated movie that was in the same league as most of the DC ones (not including Flashpoint Paradox, The Dark Knight Returns and Batman: Under the Red Hood, which are all in a different class).
cipher - 3/11/2014, 1:27 PM
I've never seen the animated Dr. Strange movie. Completely forgot about.
dethpillow - 3/11/2014, 1:28 PM

MrReese - 3/11/2014, 1:28 PM
I enjoyed the animated movie 4 what it was.
TheRealRemyLebeau - 3/11/2014, 1:28 PM
@starlord agreed.

@phoenix @gusto you two didn't like the action in the animated film? I thought it did Dr. Strange justice as an origin film.
cipher - 3/11/2014, 1:29 PM
*about it

F*ck. Y'see, these mistakes would be avoided if I wasn't so bloody sober.
JillyMcBeam - 3/11/2014, 1:30 PM
Is Depp still the front running guy for this movie?
Rulk - 3/11/2014, 1:31 PM
Daaaaaamn...... the first half of Sinister was one of the creepiest parts of a movie I have ever seen....

Could Dr. Strange be handled as the first Marvel entry in the horror genre???
Indy - 3/11/2014, 1:32 PM
I want see Johnny Depp he look like strange and we know he can act.
dethpillow - 3/11/2014, 1:32 PM
this is the one that reminds me most of Dr Strange tho, for whatever reason...

)

i think this verse is perfect, it's so Doctor Strange, if they played this song in the movie, i would just lose it right then and there.

You talk about day
I'm talking 'bout night time
When the monsters call out
The names of men
Bob Dylan knows
And I bet Alan Freed did
There are things in night
That are better not to behold

dethpillow - 3/11/2014, 1:35 PM
@Rulk - maybe yeah, Feige seems to be all about that concept of each movie being more like a different genre piece. so, maybe, yeah I could imagine that approach from them.
Inhuman - 3/11/2014, 1:37 PM
Baron Mordo and Dormammu as the villains

Phase 3

(2015) Ant-Man
(2016) Captain America 3
(2016) Black Panther
(2017) Doctor Strange
(2017) Thor 3
(2018) Avengers 3
l0rdleg0las - 3/11/2014, 1:39 PM
Screw Doctor Strange! That character sucks. Give me Black Panther and the Inhumans.
Rulk - 3/11/2014, 1:39 PM
Dr. Strange animated is one of my favorites... up there with Planet Hulk and Hulk VS.

MrBatmor - 3/11/2014, 1:39 PM
Wait @pheonix you are back? Nice...
StarYeezus - 3/11/2014, 1:41 PM
I'd rather have a good drama director than a shitty horror one. Don't let this be your first flop Marvel.

Jonathan Levine or no deal.
Bekss - 3/11/2014, 1:41 PM
Feige already said that short list was wrong.
But who knows about this new one
Rulk - 3/11/2014, 1:42 PM
@ dethpillow - Yeah.....Marvel horror... just imagine the coolness of that! :)
beane2099 - 3/11/2014, 1:44 PM
Uwe Boll, baby. You'll get a Doctor Strange you never thought you'd see with Uwe Boll at the helm. Haw!
JoJo1982 - 3/11/2014, 1:45 PM
Dr strange animated movie is one of the main reasons why I think a live action movie would be great to bring to life

The animated movie is so underrated
Destined - 3/11/2014, 1:48 PM
I enjoyed the animated movie as well. And these directors are intriguing candidates. We'll definitely need someone who can do creepy and suspenseful in the context of Marvel. And I'm still here for Luke Evans as a choice to play Strange, no Depp please. There are other actors out there to pull from.
