Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson On His DC Role; "He Has A Superman Level Of Power"

Hercules star Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson has talked in great detail about his role in a future DC comic book movie, and offers up three lengthy condition which he had before taking the role. Calling him a "badass mother[frick]er", it sounds like the character will be far more interesting than Lobo!

In a recent interview with Comic Book Resources about Hercules, Dwaye Johnson was surprisingly open about working with Warner Bros. on a role in one of their upcoming comic book movies. When asked about the rumour that he'll be playing John Stewart in Justice League or Batman Vs. Superman, the wrestler turned actor responded, "So, you know, there’s been mutual interest with myself and DC for many years to find the right character. I, like everyone here in the room, love superheroes. So there’s been mutual interest with us for years, and we’ve been having ongoing discussions, myself and DC, for years about the right character, what the right character would be. That’s another thing, too: It had to be right."

However when the site then pressed him for further details on who he will be playing, Johnson went on to quite cryptically list three of the main qualities that the character has. "The first quality we were looking for was that he had to be extremely complex and have a lot going on. What that does for me as an actor and the studio is it gives us space that we can explore; his complexities. The other quality was that he had to – the character we were looking for had to be well-known but never brought to life. Then what that does again as an actor, it gives me a little bit of space, and we talked about personality. It just gives me a chance to put an imprint into his personality, with the set of tools that I could bring to the table and put a very unique twist on his personality, but still pay homage to who he is. The third thing – and most important – is he had to be a badass mother[frick]er, OK, and on a Superman level of power, where [he] could throw down. In those three qualities, I’m happy we’ve found that character."

This obviously leaves an awful lot of options, but it sounds like he's definitely already agreed to star in whatever role he's alluding to here. Who do you guys think it sounds like? Personally, I'm placing my bets on Darkseid! Be sure to sound off with your thoughts on these comments below!

Nadj76 - 3/25/2014, 8:51 AM
Technically John Stewart has never been "on screen" before right?
Pasto - 3/25/2014, 8:51 AM
Marvel better watch their back.
ManCalledSting - 3/25/2014, 8:51 AM
Darkseid would make the most sense.
Pasto - 3/25/2014, 8:51 AM
Comic-Con 2014 can't get here sooner enough!
chubbybubby - 3/25/2014, 8:51 AM
It has to be Lobo right?
ManCalledSting - 3/25/2014, 8:52 AM
Mongul is a good choice too!
Lozzy - 3/25/2014, 8:52 AM
Okay, but what film is he going to be in? I think if he was in Batman vs Superman we would of know about it by now.
StarYeezus - 3/25/2014, 8:52 AM
There would need to be a Captain Marvel for there to be Black Adam though, right? Isn't that like having Magus on screen before Adam Warlock.
ForeverPowerful - 3/25/2014, 8:52 AM
I wouldn't be surprised if he's someone on the League. I'd like to see Johnson take on a villain role though, I don't think he's ever been anyone other than a hero in his movies.
AxeEffect - 3/25/2014, 8:53 AM
Maybe he'll be some weird cross between Captain Marvel and Black Adam? you know operatin in the gray earea
ManCalledSting - 3/25/2014, 8:54 AM
When's comic-con?
MrCameron - 3/25/2014, 8:54 AM

Starfox - 3/25/2014, 8:56 AM

[frick] this Secrecy!
BatManiac - 3/25/2014, 8:56 AM
"There would need to be a Captain Marvel for there to be a Black Adam though, right?"

No. Black Adam predates Captain Marvel by thousands of years.
Melkaticox - 3/25/2014, 8:56 AM
@TChalla To be honest, I'm glad. Maybe they'll finally leave the articles about Avengers' set photos.

"*Gasp* Iron Man is wearing yoga pants!!!1"
Starfox - 3/25/2014, 8:56 AM
But I will place my bet and say He's either Darkseid or Amazo.
Pasto - 3/25/2014, 8:56 AM
DC to Marvel.

GeneralZod1138 - 3/25/2014, 8:56 AM
Doomsday or Darkseid
ManCalledSting - 3/25/2014, 8:58 AM
Starfox: If he's Darksied, I'd say a cameo at the end of Superman/Batman, and the main villain in Justice League, if they are filming back to back.
KraftB0X - 3/25/2014, 8:59 AM
Darkseid. Called it before and calling it again D:
Starfox - 3/25/2014, 8:59 AM
Oh look guys! Another DC/Marvel Flamewar

GO! Charizard I choose You!
charlie2094 - 3/25/2014, 8:59 AM
Definitely not John Stewart, from the sound of it, far from an interesting character. Maybe Darkseid or Black Adam, be a better fit
ManCalledSting - 3/25/2014, 8:59 AM
GeneralZod: Unless the really change Doomsday, I can't see him playing that role.
BatManiac - 3/25/2014, 8:59 AM
"So there’s been mutual interest with us for years, and we’ve been having ongoing discussions, myself and DC, for years about the right character, what the right character would be."

Judging on this, I'd say he's playing Black Adam, since he's been in talks with DC for years to play Black Adam, and has gone on record saying he'd love to play the character.
TheTruthHurts - 3/25/2014, 9:00 AM
get over yourself Pasto. Marvel has nothing to fear from DC in the live action department. Only thing DC has over Marvel is in the animation department. DC has shown it has and will continue to fail over and over again live action wise.
Starfox - 3/25/2014, 9:00 AM
OldGreg - I agree, I don't think they would have him appear that early on. They would most likely save him for a future JL movie.
Pasto - 3/25/2014, 9:01 AM
Did I just possibly start a flame war? Whoops.
