According to BoxOffice.com, Captain America: The Winter Soldier now looks set to beat Thor: The Dark World's $85.7 million domestic debut with an opening weekend of $90+ million. We know from past experience that tracking isn't always reliable, but based on the reviews and positive buzz, these numbers seem extremely realistic. Should it hit this number, the Marvel Studios sequel will beat Fast Five's $86.2 million haul from 2011 to make it the highest April opening of all-time. April has never seen a film debut with over $100 million, but the site believes that based on all the information currently available, this is a very likely possibility for Captain America: The Winter Soldier. Based on the success that it's found internationally so far as well, a global tally of more than $500 million also looks like a dead cert, good news for those who have already seen the sequel and are counting down the days until Captain America 3 is release in 2016!

It deserves to hit a billion to be honest. If they released this in the peak summer then it would definitely hit a billion.

Wasn't Thor predicted to open near $100M? I wouldn't be surprised if this movie opens around $80M.

RidiculousFanBoyDemands - 4/1/2014, 2:25 PM
Definitely Marvels best movie and my sixth favorite cbm of all time (could climb higher but it all depends on rewatchability). Here's hoping they make more like this instead of their previous post Avenger movies. I couldn't stand IM3 and already forgot what the sequel to Thor was about.
antoineflemming - 4/1/2014, 2:25 PM
I hope TWS does better than $500 mil total.
dougieisrollingthejays - 4/1/2014, 2:26 PM
@BTW thor was predicted at 80 and opened at 85...
anthonyEstark - 4/1/2014, 2:26 PM
Sounds great, can't wait!

@dougieisrollingthejays
its not doing as well overseas as TDW

Thor: The Dark World had a faster international roll-out than this film, but regardless of that fact, no one really expected it to do all that much better overseas than Thor overseas for obvious reasons but it certainly isn't under-performing at all. It's beat Thor 2 in some international markets and it opened in 57% of them while Thor 2 opened in 70%.

Even with that, it's only a little behind Thor in some overseas areas.

It really doesn't matter too much which Marvel film does slightly more than the other though, because they're not in competition with each other unless Marvel is competing with itself. As long as this performs very well at the box office and isn't a flop then this is a success. I expect this movie to do well enough to justify a third film.

CA:TWS deserves the praise it's getting and I hope it does well at the box office. It's actually better reviewed and praised than the first one.

It's better than T:TDW and even the reviews reflect that since it's still in the 90% range. It's a better film in my opinion and this is going to be one of Marvel's best films to date.

500 is a guaranteed, the question is how much more?
JayTopStix - 4/1/2014, 2:30 PM
After watching the movie I can't believe i got caught up with the hype. The movie is AVERAGE at best. The story is bland and the story forgettable. This movie serves only as a connection to Avengers 2, nothing more.

The Marvel cinematic universe has grown so big and rich, that this movie seems silly in every aspect. At several times in the movie I kept thinking "is he not a phone call away from his Avenger buddies"?

Anyway go see it, come back and let me know what you think, I would not set my hope up though. I am starting to realize Cap was really meant to fit the last century, I don't see a true way to make him relevant in these days.

They can add on my 32.00
RidiculousFanBoyDemands - 4/1/2014, 2:33 PM
Being a Disney Shareholder I hope it does even better. I hope all their films make a killing so right before Age of Ultronand StarWars I can sell it and make my nut..again (thank you google, apple and red box, when no one wanted you I did and you rewarded me, now come on Disney!!)
dougieisrollingthejays - 4/1/2014, 2:34 PM
@Hump Thanks for the info! I didn't know how many it released in, I thought it was the same amount as thor TDW. naturally I expect this to do worse theN TDW over seas (its a american hero) but still think this will pop 800 million total.
