Don't Expect To See The "Classic Line-Up" In Sony's SPIDER-MAN Spin-Off, SINISTER SIX

In yet another interview with The Amazing Spider-Man 2 producers Matt Tolmach and Avi Arad, we're left with more questions than answers as they promise "the best Six that you can imagine", but not necessarily the classic line-up of villains. They also blame fans for The Rhino's new look!

Talking to IGN Movies, producer Matt Tolmach was asked about the roster of The Sinister Six, teasing: "Nothing is sacred. I mean it’s going to be the best Six that you can imagine, but it’s going to make sense in the world that we’re building." Well, that sounds promising, although Avi Arad would go on to add that just because we saw Doc Ock's arms and the Vulture's wings in the trailer for The Amazing Spider-Man 2, that doesn't mean we'll see the classic team line-up. "When you translate comic to film the word 'classic' means the first fifty issues. Because after that we all made changes; changes that had to do with science-fiction turning into science. I think just the need to move this world forward. So, of course we'll make adaptations about these guys and what was their motivations because many of them have multiple motivations. It depends, is it ultimate Spider-Man? Is it Spider-Man? Is it some three-piece issue that takes them to space? We have a bigger responsibility to represent the character of the villain as it was conceived, because that way it will survive the test of time." Oh, and if you're wondering who's to blame for the controversial Rhino redesign...it's you! "All the rest... that's a movie. What an opportunity to make-- can you imagine seeing Paul Giamatti in a leather suit? I think they would have killed us. They gave us a hard time with the Lizard." What do you guys think?

i doubt we'll see sandman in the six, only because he was in that other spider-movie that i'm trying to forget
0megaDaGod - 4/15/2014, 8:23 AM
“Nothing is sacred"

And this is why you fail
TheDarkLord - 4/15/2014, 8:24 AM
Okay then!!!
antoineflemming - 4/15/2014, 8:25 AM
1) The fans' fault for Rhino? The problem wasn't that The Lizard was a CG lizard. The problem was that it looked like crap because of the way you made the face.

2) Of course we can't expect to see the classic line up because, God forbid, you actually stick to the comics. At least, if you're going to deviate, make sure it's better than the comic portrayal.
OneBadDay - 4/15/2014, 8:27 AM
Don't mind this. As long as they make Ock the leader, I don't care who the other members are. I'd like to see Electro and Rhino in it though.
TheRealRemyLebeau - 4/15/2014, 8:27 AM
It was obvious they were not doing the original S6. Webb set it up differently.
SuperCat - 4/15/2014, 8:27 AM
Sinister sh*t.
charlie2094 - 4/15/2014, 8:27 AM
Wasn't really expecting it...

Rhino/Doc Ock and Vulture are all but confirmed. Electro seems to be too - "electricity can't be killed". Sure if Goblin survives he'll also return...

Would like to see Mysterio, not sure how they'd make that work though. Probably not Sandman, to avoid too much retreading
GizmoEl - 4/15/2014, 8:27 AM
The lineup always changes so I'm interested in who they go with. Hopefully doc ock, vulture, electro, scorpion, rhino, and shocker
OneBadDay - 4/15/2014, 8:28 AM
Definitely don't want Sandman. He's one of the hardest characters to swallow. Haha, literally...
GizmoEl - 4/15/2014, 8:29 AM
The lineup we got in Avengers wasn't the original and it was accepted, so no biggie. I'm just happy they're going the sinister six route and taking risks
ALegendaryPanda - 4/15/2014, 8:29 AM
I pretty much never want to see Sandman again. Lol
MegaMatt - 4/15/2014, 8:30 AM
Where the [frick] is the DOFP trailer?!?!
McMeatFace - 4/15/2014, 8:30 AM
Dumbest idea ever for a comicbook movie.
ALegendaryPanda - 4/15/2014, 8:31 AM
But I can't wait to see how they handle Doc Ock, Venom, and Carnage!

And Vulture, he's cool too.
SKOne - 4/15/2014, 8:33 AM
I like the Rhino design from the Amazing Spider-Man game, if they use that next time. I'm honestly just glad that we are getting villains we haven't seen in live action yet and I really hope it continues.
TheRealRemyLebeau - 4/15/2014, 8:33 AM
Lizard didn't look terrible. His look harkens back to his origin look when he was more humanoid than crocodile look. @antoine. Also the comics have had different lineups so this isn't deviating from the books. First team yeah maybe but how the film is set up it makes sense. Just like the avengers had a different lineup from the original. Hell, Cap showed up in issue 4 but he wasn't there when team first formed.
TheAbaryMan369 - 4/15/2014, 8:33 AM
Dude, I realize Rhino doesn't need a leather suit, but he also doesn't need to be a pile of metal that is supposed to look like a Rhino.
0megaDaGod - 4/15/2014, 8:34 AM
The DOFP trailer is coming tomorrow morning
deepee3 - 4/15/2014, 8:34 AM
Why would he assume Giamatti would be in a leather suit to portray the Rhino? Surely his Rhino look would have been CGI. And it might have looked fantastic! Certainly better than the mechanical crap they went with.
McNyagano - 4/15/2014, 8:35 AM
Rhino, Doc Ock, Venom, Electro, Green Goblin and Vulture will be in the Sinister 6 movie especially the way TASM2 ended.
TheRealRemyLebeau - 4/15/2014, 8:35 AM
@Gizmoel you can't have shocker and Electro on the same team?
beane2099 - 4/15/2014, 8:35 AM
Gave them a hard time about the Lizard. Leaving out whether or not it looked like the comics lizard (which I don;t care about) it was just a bad design. If you put that in any sci fi movie it wouldn't have been well received.
OneBadDay - 4/15/2014, 8:35 AM
What supernatural force keeps Sandman's sand together? How does he control this force? If you sent every grain of sand that he is comprised of a thousand miles away from each other, where would "Sandman" be? Is he just a spirit?
beane2099 - 4/15/2014, 8:36 AM
I'm crossing my fingers for Type Face and Swarm in the Sinister Six. Type Face is gonna have his day, baby!
TheRationalNerd - 4/15/2014, 8:36 AM
@MegaMatt

I read that the UK will be getting it tomorrow morning while the US gets it tonight. :(
beane2099 - 4/15/2014, 8:37 AM
Sandman is kept together by love ... and a little bit if hate.
Nomis - 4/15/2014, 8:37 AM
Oh, and if you're wondering who's to blame for the controversial Rhino redesign...it's you! "All the rest... that's a movie. What an opportunity to make-- can you imagine seeing Paul Giamatti in a leather suit? I think they would have killed us. They gave us a hard time with the Lizard."

You wasn't FORCE to hire Paul Giamatti for the role of RHINO!

Hire an actor that would've look good in the "classic" suit an nobody would've complained.

The same with the lizard. If you'd make him look like he does in the books than the fans won't complain.

Why don't these guys get this? It's not rocket science.

The closer you stay to the source material (i.e the comics) in story lore and look of characters and the less the fans won't "give you a hard time".
TheRationalNerd - 4/15/2014, 8:38 AM
Pleaseeeee....

Doc Ock
Vulture
Rhino
Electro
Shocker (or Mysterio)
Sandman

BlackCat1 - 4/15/2014, 8:38 AM
Just as long as they don't include Black Cat in the Six I'm fine.
TheRealRemyLebeau - 4/15/2014, 8:39 AM
You guys still complaining about rhino!? Smdh. First off rhino is a dumb villain. Second Webb couldn't make another beastly villain after Lizard. The mechanical look is in the comics and it gives rise to upgrades. Think fanboys think. ;)
fettastic - 4/15/2014, 8:39 AM
I'd say the Sinister 6 will be the 6 villains shown or hinted at in ASM2:

1)Rhino
2)Electro
3)Green Goblin
4)Venom
5)Vulture
6)Doc Ock
charlie2094 - 4/15/2014, 8:39 AM
@McNy

Obviously you've seen it, but do you think the Goblin will look different in future films? The TASM2 Goblin looks very mid-transformation - especially the suit - as if the suit is yet to be finished. Reckon we might see his skin go "greener", so to speak? :P
GinjaNinja - 4/15/2014, 8:40 AM
eh i'd be ok I suppose

Electro
Green goblin (Norman)
Doc Ock
Vulture
Lizard
??? after that unless sandman
TheRationalNerd - 4/15/2014, 8:41 AM
@McNy

Please spare us from the spoilers.
cipher - 4/15/2014, 8:42 AM
Wasn't expecting to.

McNyagano - 4/15/2014, 8:42 AM
@charlie2094

I don't really know what he will look like in future films. The suit Harry used was meant for the military and it was a prototype which was unfinished. If the serum is completed, he won't go greener. There's a reason why Harry looks mutated and I don't wanna spoil that unless you really want to know why.
TheRealRemyLebeau - 4/15/2014, 8:42 AM
Nomis, Lizard had his origin face and present comic body just a little taller. I don't get what you mean buddy.
soforizo - 4/15/2014, 8:43 AM
MegaMatt - 4/15/2014, 8:30 AM

Where the [frick] is the DOFP trailer?!?!

"What an opportunity to make-- can you imagine seeing Paul Giamatti in a leather suit? I think they would have killed us."

Wow, that is a statement that acknowledges a real motivation to think more creatively. Not! Paint yourself in a corner and don't think outside of the box. We don't want to give you leather, so we are going to slap him in a metal robot suit. Nothing else could have worked for you?
