THE AMAZING SPIDER-MAN 2 Writer Roberto Orci Keen To Direct STAR TREK 3

While they still have a number of projects in development (including The Amazing Spider-Man 3), Alex Kurtzman and Roberto Orci are set to part ways in order to build their own separate careers as directors. Kurtzman will tackle Venom, while Orci is said to be keen on Star Trek 3...

The writing talents of Alex Kurtzman and Roberto Orci are debatable to say the least, especially after the mixed reaction to the story and dialogue in The Amazing Spider-Man 2. However, Variety now reports that the duo have decided to call it quits on their working relationship and while they will continue to work together on small screen projects, both men will no longer be collaborating on the big screen. What does this mean for The Amazing Spider-Man 3? Their status is unknown for both that and all the of already announced movies they've both been linked to. However, with Kurtzman setting his sights on Venom, the site goes on to reveal that "Orci is currently laser focused on the upcoming “Star Trek 3.” He’s already been tapped to pen the picture along with Patrick McKay and John D. Payne and he’s heavily lobbying to direct the production. The film’s co-producers, J.J. Abrams’ Bad Robot and David Ellison’s Skydance, appear to be in favor of that, but people familiar with the situation say that Paramount is being cautious." It's no wonder they're being cautious, especially as it would be Orci's directorial debut...

I am not a big Star Trek fan, but considering what he and Kurtzman have done to Spider-Man, Paramount should not let him direct. These two hacks should be go write and direct for the "Scary Movie" franchise.
ReeferInferno - 4/22/2014, 10:35 AM
No.
Transforminator - 4/22/2014, 10:36 AM
Oh well, can't say I'm sad or worried. Haven't really clung to any of their work. Maybe the first transformers? But that's a HUGE maybe. Best of luck to them in their future endeavors.
JoshWilding - 4/22/2014, 10:36 AM
If this means that these two hacks will be kept away from The Amazing Spider-Man 3, then let Star Trek 3 take the bullet. Of course, it'll still have Webb at the helm... :/

His script for Star Trek: Into Darkness reached levels of Prometheus nonsense. They should stay away from this franchise. Much like his co-writer, he's hit or miss. After the last film, he can go to hell for all I care.
Gusto - 4/22/2014, 10:40 AM
Grif's gonna be overjoyed.

Can't say he's a bad director... Looking forward to it. Loved both Star Trek films.

ALegendaryPanda - 4/22/2014, 10:46 AM
Well I haven't seen TASM 2 yet so I can't speak on that matter, but I loved Star Trek and Into Darkness so they're okay in my book.
SauronsBANE - 4/22/2014, 10:46 AM
*Groan*

Now Venom is assured of being an incoherent mess, and Star Trek 3 has a fantastic chance of being even worse than Into Darkness. Dear Lord, Orci and Kurtzman have no business being, well, in this business. Ugh.
BoomTubeB - 4/22/2014, 10:48 AM
no way they're gonna let him! last 1 was so terrible! Uwe Bol would of done a better movie! Abrams is way way way too overrated ! & his endings are retarded with no closure! lens flares & shakey camera ! clown shoes I tell ya clown shoes!
ThrotTheUnclean - 4/22/2014, 10:50 AM
For the love of god keep him the hell away from Star Trek!
Gusto - 4/22/2014, 10:50 AM
I'll reserve judgement until I hear
what Mayor McCheese has to say.

maninfinesuit - 4/22/2014, 10:51 AM
Oh boy.
ALegendaryPanda - 4/22/2014, 10:51 AM
And apparently I'm the only positive one here!
TyrantBoss - 4/22/2014, 10:53 AM
Dear GOD in Heaven. And I though Star Trek: Into Darkness was bad enough. This guys was able to totally destroy Spider-Man 2. It was so horribly written and such a poor film. Dear Lord....Star Trek may never survive this next venture.
BatManiac - 4/22/2014, 10:55 AM
I really enjoyed Star Trek & Stark Trek Into Darkness, and I loved The Amazing Spider-Man 2, so I have no issue with this whatsoever.
Gusto - 4/22/2014, 10:56 AM
Oh shit. Then this is gonna be a tough
one to call. I'd better get extra drunk
after work so I can sift through this mess.
Gusto - 4/22/2014, 10:57 AM
MrFridayNights...that bitch better get steppin'!

charlie2094 - 4/22/2014, 10:57 AM
Into Darkness was fantastic! No idea why people on here hated it...generally accepted as a great film, definitely the best Trek I've seen...

Wouldn't mind if he returned to write, but not so sure about it being his directing debut. Doesn't often turn out well, jumping straight in to such a big film, best to start a little smaller
SauronsBANE - 4/22/2014, 10:57 AM
Can Mayor McCheese direct the Venom movie instead? And Star Trek 3? And Amazing Spider-Man 3?
Gusto - 4/22/2014, 10:58 AM
LMFAO! They should be real if they're not!!!!!
CaptShipwreck - 4/22/2014, 10:59 AM
Lmao
Arrowhead77 - 4/22/2014, 11:00 AM
I actually love both the new Star Trek movies...

@Gusto, you 2 make a sexy couple!
cipher - 4/22/2014, 11:03 AM
Interesting toys. Needs a "Scotch McFloppyDong" then we're all set.
Joeyfxx - 4/22/2014, 11:04 AM
Both movies were great but [frick] me he shouldn't direct the third one at all.
TheDarkPassenger - 4/22/2014, 11:05 AM
Nick56 - 4/22/2014, 11:07 AM
Sometimes they are hit (Star Trek 1/2, Fringe) and other times miss (Transformers 1/2, Sleepy Hollow tv show, and by the looks of it TASM 2). Most of time they are just mediocre (Ender's Game, Cowboys and Aliens, etc...)
InfiniteMonkey - 4/22/2014, 11:08 AM
This is so wrong on all fronts.

He's writing it, so its a copy and paste much to the chagrin of the other two writers and then its probably a copy and paste directing job when he gets the gig.

The only thing good about Into Darkness was the title.
Bloody Khan should have been left alone.
Melkaticox - 4/22/2014, 11:08 AM

@Gusto Wha-- Gust, since when are you into old people?! >:[ the guy is fifty!
InfiniteMonkey - 4/22/2014, 11:11 AM
They should get Duncan Jones to direct or Joe Johnston or Neill Blomkamp. The point is not him.

He should stick to writing children's stories.
FilmDork1221 - 4/22/2014, 11:12 AM
God I love the gif's posted here
