Marc Webb Talks Orci/Kurtzman Split And How That Impacts THE AMAZING SPIDER-MAN 3

In the following video interview, director Marc Webb comments on how the "protected storyline" of The Amazing Spider-Man 3 means that Roberto Orci and Alex Kurtzman's decision to part ways won't impact the threequel, while also touching on the X-Men: Days of Future Past after-credits scene...

In The Amazing Spider-Man™ 2, for Peter Parker (Andrew Garfield), life is busy – between taking out the bad guys as Spider-Man and spending time with the person he loves, Gwen (Emma Stone), high school graduation can’t come quickly enough. Peter hasn’t forgotten about the promise he made to Gwen’s father to protect her by staying away – but that’s a promise he just can’t keep. Things will change for Peter when a new villain, Electro (Jamie Foxx), emerges, an old friend, Harry Osborn (Dane DeHaan), returns, and Peter uncovers new clues about his past.

Starring Andrew Garfield, Emma Stone, Jamie Foxx, Dane DeHaan, Chris Cooper, Paul Giamatti, Colm Feore, Sally Field, and Chris Zylka, The Amazing Spider-Man 2 is set to be released in the UK on 18th April and in the US on May 2nd.

In other words about the post credits scene

"I shot an after credits scene that was totally rejected because Arad is a dick"

Tell me that not's what his face looked like it was saying?
Starkasm - 4/23/2014, 5:14 AM
Yeah you wanted to give the competition a leg up. Come on, seriously?
That sneak peek sucked by the way. It was so awkwardly edited.
charlie2094 - 4/23/2014, 5:14 AM
I highly doubt the X:Men after credits was planned for, probably solely was because of Fox pushing them to include it, because of Webb's contract with them.

Hopefully the US release might have a different scene, or one right at the end. Remember hearing all that stuff about Norman's head appearing in it
nikgrid - 4/23/2014, 5:14 AM
Yeah Spider-man is BEST when he is by himself, I would hate to see him in the Avengers, or hooking up with the x-men.
Starkasm - 4/23/2014, 5:15 AM
I'm not an X-Men guy, and I will see DOFP as I see all cbms but I don't have high hopes. Bring on GotG
dougieisrollingthejays - 4/23/2014, 5:17 AM
I don't want him to be in t he avengers, just the mcu
MrMartinMarvel - 4/23/2014, 5:22 AM
"Do you know about the X-Men thing at the end of the movie?"

"It was the next big Marvel movie coming out and we wanted to give fans a sneak peak."

Riiiiiiight, that's why. FOX definitely didn't make you their bitch.

SuperCat - 4/23/2014, 5:22 AM
Sad to see them split :(

Meady - 4/23/2014, 5:24 AM
Please find another director. The movie was a complete fail. Great visuals. Story was meh. Could done better. More emotional content. You didn't feel for the characters as much as you could have. At least in rami's version there was more father and son tension and guilt.

BatManiac - 4/23/2014, 5:37 AM
Well, I'm glad this doesn't effect TASM 3, as its my second most anticipated comic book movie behind only Batman vs Superman.

It is kinda hilarious that the guy directing Spider Man movie's last name is Webb AND he's a terrible liar. If he were actually a good action film director I'd say this match was perfect
captainireland - 4/23/2014, 5:58 AM
Ha, have to laugh about his answer to the DOFP question. Yeah, because Sony jumped at the chance to promote their movie's next big competition, contracts had nothing to do with it. By that logic, Fox should preview GOTG in the credits of DOFP. If MJ is to appear in the third film they better cast her very carefully because the chemistry between Garfield and Stacey is going to be very hard to beat.

Spock0Clock - 4/23/2014, 6:19 AM
It kills me to admit this, but Spider-Man is best when he's on his own and if Marvel had the rights to him, he would have undoubtedly been a major part of the Avengers. (I'd be fine with him showing up in the big battle to defend NY, because aliens were smashing up the place, but he had no place on that Helicarrier).

On the other hand, when Sony's Spider-Man is actually alone in his universe, he isn't really being a loner. He has no choice. Spidey is at his best when there are lots of supergroups out there that he interacts with, but never actually joins. (Although maybe he hangs with some Amazing Friends now and again).
joeschmow013 - 4/23/2014, 6:23 AM
I wish Marc Webb was a better director...I really would like to enjoy his movies but Amazing Spider-man 1 was below competent and TASM 2 is getting mixed reviews.
LTR - 4/23/2014, 6:24 AM
@Meady

Why fire him if you just admitted there was great visuals? He didn't write the film, do you even know what a director is?
Arrow96 - 4/23/2014, 7:03 AM
@Meady Wow. Just...wow. "More father son tension and guilt"? Hey, it's your opinion, but I don't think you and I saw the same movies.
boboMELOSHE - 4/23/2014, 7:14 AM
So ASM2 last night... was blown away!! such a great movie. The feels man, the feels.
fettastic - 4/23/2014, 7:20 AM
Kurtzman and Orci broke up? Maybe Kurtzman is jealous because Orci will possibly direct Star Trek 3. Or maybe Orci was cheating on him.
fettastic - 4/23/2014, 7:23 AM
@Kurne, now I want to read the rest of that comic!
TheGreenGusblin - 4/23/2014, 7:58 AM
I'm surprised no one have ever asked him about Norman Osborn.
RetroFit - 4/23/2014, 8:00 AM
Webb is so out of his depth with these movies. He needs to stick to low budget indie movies and not gigantic Hollywood blockbusters. The fact he started filming with a script that was already overpacked with plots and characters and didn't realize that Mary Jane was too much and had no place in this movie proves my point. A GOOD director would have noticed that in the first read of the first draft and requested changes to make it more lean and focused.
TheRealRemyLebeau - 4/23/2014, 8:01 AM
@meady " At least in rami's version there was more father and son tension and guilt " this was an asinine comment smh.

@fett what? Kurtzman has Venom and Orci possibly has Star Trek. Were you joking O_o
ThrotTheUnclean - 4/23/2014, 8:04 AM
They're really making a third film?
TheRealRemyLebeau - 4/23/2014, 8:05 AM
Webb's vision was great in the TASM. The scenery is crisp and his choice of casting is great. I haven't seen part 2 but I have a feeling it will surpass the first and certainly Shit on raimis garbage juice cheeseball factory films. Webbs world is 100x better than raimis. ;)
MrSotoMan - 4/23/2014, 8:07 AM
@RetroFit- Well this is where I will stop you.

1. Its Marc Webb. He isn't Spielberg, he isn't Nolan, he isn't Lucas or any other big named director, he is simply Marc Webb.

2. What seems well on paper, you won't find out till you actually view the scenes. Which I am sure he shot it just to please Arad, but had to prove his point to Arad more with creditability that MJ would not work well in the movie. So that is one of those cases which every movie out there goes through.

3. Arad, controls Webb and has way more creative control with the production than Webb. Webb is a director who does the best to his ability to direct and make sure everything is seen the way fit for the producers Arad & Tolmach. Example: Webb might of wanted a certain scene to have this, where as Arad & Tolmach see differently on the subject matter and tell him to do this such and such.

Of course with the whole Mary Jane thing, it was a fan request which is why it was added into the script. When I mean fan-request, I mean tons of viewers from TASM asked to see what MJ would be like in the movie, and while it seemed good on paper, what was filmed like I said didn't fit and it was a good move on their part to do so.
TheRealRemyLebeau - 4/23/2014, 8:08 AM
@ ThrotTheUnclean where have you been? Release dates were already set in stone. Scripts were made or at least outlines. Venom and sinister 6 is a go. What kind of dumb ass question are you asking? Stupid is as stupid does around here. Get with the program. ;)
TheRealRemyLebeau - 4/23/2014, 8:11 AM
Ass clowns can't stop this juggernaut of a film. Bring it Webb.
TheDoctorBluBox - 4/23/2014, 8:19 AM
Saw Amazing Spiderman 2 ... It reminded me of Batman Forever. Not bad but joel Schumacher wants Batnips . Don't go in with high expectations
TayDee - 4/23/2014, 8:27 AM
I didn't like SM2. ASM2 was far better for me.
Scarilian - 4/23/2014, 9:17 AM
Basically;
- Spider-man is a loner because Sony wont let him crossover with Avengers
- The X-men thing was to do with promoting another film because Fox probably helped cover their insane marketing costs (What with all the marketing for this film)

@MrSotoMan
Actually the original plan was introducing her early on (Being the Woman Spider-man saves from being hit by a Taxi) and then have her be introduced at the end of the film in a post credit scene by Aunt May in a way of cheering Peter up. At least that seemed to be the plan at one stage as Webb hinted at the 'You just hit the jackpot' scene occurring in this film.
AlphaAndDecima - 4/23/2014, 9:26 AM
The split means nothing because The Amazing Spider-Man 3 will probably only end up being JUST as good as The Amazing Spider-Man 2 and still better than The Amazing Spider-Man. I don't see anything else besides mediocrity from this film series.

Okay, wake me up when we get something better than Spider-Man 2 guys; I'm going back to bed.

MrSotoMan - 4/23/2014, 9:37 AM
@Scarilian- That is the point I made. What looks good on paper might not look good on film.
AlphaAndDecima - 4/23/2014, 9:40 AM
@ Scarilian

I feel that the "You just hit the jackpot" kind of line can be used on film, but it needs to be worked better than what is in the comics. I always felt like Peter gets forced to go out on a date while being in a depressive state and MJ says that while on the date, not at the front door of his aunt's house.
Scarilian - 4/23/2014, 9:46 AM
@MrSotoMan
I suppose, given the ending kind of felt rushed anyway I feel they could have had a post credit-scene MJ to tease the third film...

@AlphaAndDecima
I believe Webb was intending it to be exactly like the comics - just it would have occurred after the scene where Aunt May talks to him about moving on. She would have brought up a 'friend of a friend' she invited round to help her move Ben's stuff - thus introducing Peter to MJ before he goes off to fight Rhino.
