I dig it. The first movie was a lot better than I was expecting.

Ya another shitty movie that is part of a film sub genre that if your title doesn't have the words Hunger Games or Harry Potter in it you are a steaming pile of shit.

@pesmerga44 Hunger Lames is shiat.

This is actually a good book series and the first movie was very strong and actually improved on some of the minor rough weaknesses of the first book. I'm excited for this film and I don't plan on seeing the last Hunger Games even though the last film ecompasses the only part of the entire book series that I actually became half way interested in. That idiot Catnips waited so long to choose who she was going to date the two boys just went ahead and made the decision for her.

Oh I never said I liked the Hunger Games at all only saw the first one and I didn't like it all that much. Truthfully I also don't see all the hype around Jennifer Lawrence either but that isn't really the point. The Harry Potter series was decent from the first 4 films I saw but it never caught me to want to see the last 4. I am going off critical and commercial success. Almost every YA movie has been either critically panned, commercially flopped or both. Twilight, Divergent, Ender's Game, Maze Runner, I am Number 4, Beautiful Creatures, Mortal Instruments, Vampire Academy, The Host, The Giver, etc... It is amazing how a sub genre that is so much more stacked with misses then hits still continues to keep getting made. It is all on the back of the success of Hunger Games and the Harry Potter series that this sub genre continues because beyond those film series the rest are all pure garbage.

People who think that The Hunger Games is about a girl 'choosing between two boys' miss the entire point of the series. It's not about that. It's about oppressive governments, manipulating people into fighting for some form of perverse entertainment. It's about war, about consequences, about violence, about sacrifice, about the lasting effects it has on not only a nation, but individuals. It's one of the most thought-provoking YA series ever, and that's why I love it.

And if we're going to bring up Jennifer Lawrence, she is a stellar actress. I will admit that the X-Men and The Hunger Games movies aren't the best examples of her full talents; she has a certain range for those films and she fulfils them well. However, in every other movie she's been in, she's a full-on tour de force.

I can keep going, I will very happily argue in favour of Jennifer and THG.

@staypuffed

I never said anything about Hunger Games being about a girl choosing between two boys I just didn't like the movie. The first one made me not want to see any of the others. Also I haven't seen American Hustle or Silvers Lining Playbook but from what I saw in Hunger Games and X-men films she isn't what some believe to be the next best actress. I should get around to see those films but I haven't. If you love those films and her go for it more power to you I just am not a fan.

@pesmerga44 I don't know what your getting at.

Rotten Tomatoes consensus- 63% fresh "With strong acting, a solid premise, and a refreshingly dark approach to its dystopian setting, The Maze Runner stands out from the crowded field of YA sci-fi adventures."

Cinemascore gave the film an A-

There's a lot of praise for while the plot was thin on the first film, it was executed well with great performances, a strong tone and thrilling pace. So it was not panned at all.

For a budget of $34M it made $32.5 in it's opening weekend alone and came away with $344.3M total. So it wasn't a commercial flop either.

So go troll some other movie.

@pesmerga44
The 'girl choosing between boys' comment was directed at @ScionStorm, so I apologise if it seemed I was coming after you. You should definitely check out Silver Linings Playbook; she's [frick]ing fantastic in that film, and overall, it's just a really enjoyable 120 minutes. American Hustle is good, too, though I didn't enjoy it quite as much.

@pesmerga44 Seems like you need to watch more movies, before you try making broad criticisms about entire genres.

@BlacktinAmerica

Ender's Game 60% RT, 125 million WW gross, 110 million budget
The Giver 36% RT, 66 million WW gross, 25 million budget
Mortal Instruments 12% RT, 90 million WW gross, 66 million budget
Vampire Academy 11% RT, 15 million WW gross, N/A budget
Beautiful Creatures 46% RT, 60 million WW gross, 60 million budget
Divergent 40% RT, 288 million WW gross, 85 million budget
Twilight 48% RT, 392 million WW gross, 35 million budget
The Host 8% RT, 63 million WW gross, 40 million budget
etc...

So again why should I see this shit either critically panned, commercially flopped, or both. Mazerunner seems to be an exception but it still looked bad to me from the trailers and a number of reviewers I go through hated it. The vast majority of YA films are pure garbage and not ever by my standard.

@staypuffed I've read THG and while the first one was a good read and showed promise, I feel the author became lazier and lazier. Book two was mediocre, book three was garbage.
There isn't much thought provoking at how teenage girl angsty Katniss is written as. Honestly, she's more annoying than the Twilight protagonist. By the end of the series I wished someone would punch her in the face and call her a spoiled little twat

@pesmerga44 J.Law is horrible in Hunger Games and X-Men, but that is due to horrible script writing and plot. I'll admit that as bad as The Hunger Game books, script, and movies are, that they are a little better than the script and plot writing of the X-Films she's been involved in. Plus you can tell she gives not one f*ck about being Mystique.
She's good in SIlver Linings and Amer. Hustle, however; I'll have to see her in something else to judge if that is because those scripts and dialogue are leaps and bounds above Hunger Games and X-Crap.
Oh, actually, she was pretty great in WInter's Bone. But again...much better writing, well better EVERYthing, than the two schlock movies mentioned above
