Hawley is leaving out some important details (which he might not know) under the heading of "Marvel's extensive dealmaking process," namely what did Marvel get.

Apparently, based on what he said, Marvel could have been a spanner in the works, yet they weren't.

So, once again, why did they go with this deal?

I just hope one of the things Mavel got from this was the rights to Dr. Doom. You don't need the F4 to use Doom, so it would have been nice if Marvel could have gotten at least one thing from this. Sadly I don't think that happened. Hopefully Fox does something with the X-Force next, be it a movie or tv show.

Marvel Studios isn't at all involved in this people. Feige's name was not on the press release.

This is Fox and Marvel Entertainment. There wasn't any rights swap that happened people. No one would trade movie rights for 2 TV shows especially one that will be on a cable network.

Why does everyone think that there was a "deal", this is no deal, FOX has always owned the live action tv rights to the X-Universe since day one. FOX was never smart enough to figure out how to do it right. FOX owes Marvel nothing, there is no deal, no borrowing, no exchange. FOX has to put in a request through Marvel whenever they make a movie and in this case, a live action TV show. Marvel might suggest something, but Marvel cannot deny FOX's request for a list of characters that FOX owns the rights to (in the X-Universe and F4 Universe). FOX puts in a request to Marvel everytime they make a movie. Marvel checks the request to make sure FOX's request does not interfere or have anything to do with the characters that they have the rights to. This is also how Marvel is able to make comic books that kind of tie in to the movies months ahead of the film's release.

The Legion series has soooooo many potential, really looking forward to it. I´ll have to see footage from Hellfire first to make judgement, im not that interested in it

Legion has a lot of potential if you look at the talent involved, even though he's a relatively obscure character. FX has put out some great shows and Fargo is the best one yet in my opinion. They also have a good track record of keeping shows alive even when ratings aren't great.

@AlphaMasterFlex

That would be so great!. I wish they also get Jason Flemyng to play Azazel and fully flesh him out

There wasn't any "swap" becasue fanboys think there is some sort of bitterness between the two. Marvel just signed off on giving fox a show, who gives a shit? What is the purpose in getting rights out of that? There is no purpose behind it becasue it's a stupid narrative that fanboys like to cling to in order to justify their unreasonable hate towards one of the studios. Just cause Marvel signed off on this doesn't mean they wanted anything out of it. Stop trying to dramatize this crap, we live in the real world.

I have a better chance of a billion dollars coming out of my ass the next time I take a shit then Eh Maybe getting a scoop involving a crossover with Deadpool, Daredevil, and Spider-Man right.

No way would Fox make a deal to have a crossover with the MCU.

They did get something. This is Disney we are talking about.

@Barchiel

Exactly. People who are saying that–apparently out of the goodness of their hearts–that Marvel just gave Fox the rights to two series based on the X-Men don't know what they're talking about.

As far as I am aware, Fox didn't have to rights to make television series based on the X-Men characters (this has been verified in numerous places). Suddenly Marvel lets them make not only one show, but two?

If you believe that they got nothing for it, I also have a bridge that i can sell you, cheap.

it may take time to be revealed, but Marvel/Marvel Studios has gotten something for their largesse, it's just a question of what it is.
Trueruru
Trueruru - 10/17/2015, 7:24 PM
There is no deal! There is no exchange! FOX has always owned the live action tv rights for the X-Universe since day one (see Generation X tv show on FOX). Stop the rumors! The only thing Disney owns is the animation rights for X-Men/F4. Disney got nothing from FOX! No deal! No trading!

@Trueruru "Why does everyone think that there was a "deal", this is no deal, FOX has always owned the live action tv rights to the X-Universe since day one."

This is incorrect. Due to the lawsuit over Mutant X, the original 1993 X-Men license agreement between Marvel and Fox was made public. It states, "Marvel reserves all television rights [based on the Property] (other than television rights with respect to the Pictures produced hereunder)."

They've got to work DOUBLY HARD to get non comic readers interested in an Xmen character that's NOT WOLVERINE. LEGION is a very obscure character only the most devoted X fans know of.

Marvel having such limited involvement makes me wonder they got in return...

1)This is isn't in the MCU
2)The writer will be dealing mostly with FX
3)Marvel will have limited involvement

patiently waiting to hear how Marvel Benefits from this deal...

LEVITIKUZ
LEVITIKUZ - 10/17/2015, 7:37 PM
@0megaDaGr0dd

Why on Earth would Marvel get something in return when Fox legally owns X-Men's film and TV rights?

I'll wait.
SAMURAI36
SAMURAI36 - 10/17/2015, 7:44 PM
Wow, so there's a difference between Marvel Studios and Marvel Entertainment? Between that and all the different studios owning Marvel's properties, it's a wonder that they make any money at all.
PsyGuy
PsyGuy - 10/17/2015, 7:49 PM
Why does everyone thing Marvel got something special??
I'm sure they're just getting a percentage of the profits. Not some character swap or whatever people are assuming.
kakinurmawth
kakinurmawth - 10/17/2015, 7:55 PM
Marvel isn't one to do anything "limited"

that's why this is weird. Why would Marvel say okay to be a part of something without being heavily involved... this deal is really weird considering Marvel's recent history.
kakinurmawth
kakinurmawth - 10/17/2015, 7:55 PM
this feels like pre-MCU Marvel
