Academy Award-Winner Cate Blanchett In Talks For THOR: RAGNARÖK

Variety has learned that Marvel Studios is currently in final negotiations with Academy Award-winner Cate Blanchett to star as one of the new female leads in the Chris Hemsworth-led Thor: Ragnarök. Details on her potential character are unknown at this time, but rumor has it that her role could be any one of these three characters - Amora the Enchantress, the Queen of the Dead Hela, or Valkyrie (although Marvel is said to be seeking someone younger for Valkyrie).

The Hollywood Reporter adds that Marvel had been on the hunt for a "bad-ass female" for quite some time and Blanchett, having already starred as Galadriel in the Lord of the Rings films, certainly fits the bill. Previous reports have also suggested that the upcoming 2017 film has at least two new prominent female roles, so if Blanchett's deal closes, there will be at least one more lead role left to cast.

Along with Hemsworth, Mark Ruffalo, who plays the fan-favorite Hulk, is also expected to star. Taika Waititi (What We Do In The Shadows) is helming the picture with a script that was most recently polished by Stephany Folsom.
