Will Smith gets paid a salary of 20 million upfront with some box office takings too. That way too much imo. He should do what RDJ did, rather than take an upfront salary, he should take just a small percentage of the B. O instead.

Snidely, you beat me to it. Smith is making crap like After Earth, but won't do ID2?

I saw a possible plot summary several years for an ID sequel, and frankly it was a much better story than the original. It probably either wasn't authentic, or just an idea being kicked around, but I do think a sequel could work.

The summary involved the idea that the ship that attacked Earth was only one of many, & the rest were waiting outside the solar system. Meanwhile, Earth adapted the alien technology, & built its own ships- fighters, I think. The two forces met in battle in the asteroid belt. Sounded pretty cool to me, but I doubt that's the story we'll see, of course.

I honestly do not want a sequel to ID. The first was good enough. Roland Emmerich needs to focus on new work not old.

Wait, you people don't like Independence Day?? It's a friggin classic! It's awfulness is exactly what makes it so good!

Seriously good for Will Smith though. A sequel is totally unnecessary. Rebooting Men in Black is even more unnecessary. C'mon Hollywood, come up with some original ideas for a change!

I don't know why this is getting a sequel now anyways. If they were gonna do this it should have been 15 years ago when the movie was still unique and not one of a hundred other world destruction flicks out there. My opinion (for all that's worth), not having Will Smith is gonna hurt this movie.

The issue is Will Smith would have legitimized this movie. It's been in development hell for how long now? This takes away from any of the steam that ID2 was starting to gain. For far too many people, no Smith = no ticket.
