This was a confirmation of a major fan speculation regarding Craster's "sacrificed" sons. Question now is how the Night's King survived all those years ago and whether or not his being a Stark has anything to do with how future events shake down.

I hate that we need to show to fill in the gaps in our knowledge rather than the actual publication of "The Winds of Winter". I love the show but the books should always be the first place to unveil crucial elements of the plot.

Umm... isn't that a bad thing? If you know the books you should be able to recognise or guess the characters mentioned. If you have 'No fricking clue who that was' then surely that's showing that the TV series is inept at portraying characters in a recognisable manor.

Nope. In this case nobody had any idea about it because the White Walkers are barely mentioned in the books. We know next to nothing about them. So some White Walkers scenes from the series never happened in the books.
